Callik hadn't put much stock in the idea of karma before. He didn't expect to get anything back when he took a blow to save the life of the heiress, especially after seeing how his clan tormented and insulted him for his sacrifice. What was the point of caring for others if they would only call you stupid for brushing closely with death ? he started to wonder. Saving a life didn't seem like the wrong thing to do, even if it came with a cost, but the others didn't see it that way at all. They preferred having one less mouth to feed than one more who couldn't feed itself.
Callik decided their priorities were twisted and left before his wounds were closed, striking out into the wilderness on his own. Alone with his thoughts, and the aching of infected wounds, and the growling of his stomach, he began to ponder more and more whether he was in the wrong after all… until, like an angel from starclan above, a cat with a touch like magic cured him of the infection of his scars, rescuing him from a fate of blindness.

cranetumble is convinced he has the worst karma out there, either that or at least incredibly bad luck. I mean, heck, his suffix is tumble, for crying out loud. Although he doesn't remember doing anything particularly nasty, his mother wasn't exactly the nicest cat.. a bit of a monster, for lack of a better word. She killed many with her ruthlessness, including his own father, and never suffered consequences for her actions.

Although most cats in drizzleclan are terrible, cranetumble is convinced he has terrible karma because his mother was so terrible. His mother died before anything terrible could happen to her, so the soul tree has decided cranetumble must pay for his mother's misdeeds. It doesn't matter how many offerings he brings to the tree, he stills winds up the only one soaked on a hunting patrol, or stuck in the sinking soil because he made a wrong turn. Most of his scars are because of his inability to keep upright.. roots like to end up where he's going to step..

Fox didn't exactly believe in karma, though there was one incident that almost had him convinced. There'd been this nest of lemmings - all babies, by the looks of it. Now, normally this would've been fantastic, a banquet of tasty little snacks. But when he'd looked at them... they were just young little things, tiny and blind and abandoned in the snow. How could he eat orphaned newborns? He'd have been no better than his namesake.

It'd felt pretty silly, raising a litter of lemmings, of all things. But he grew attached, keeping them in a warm nest under a tree, feeding them scraps of leaves and seeds and whatever else they took from him - he'd never really been sure what lemmings actually ate. And as they got older, they treated him like a father, as much as lemmings could. They followed him everywhere, skittering through the snow and chattering whatever lemmings talked about. That's how the karma'd kicked in - they'd lead him right to a warm new home, topped off with other cats to chat with. They'd done it by almost getting eaten, sure - but he liked to think it was his little reward for saving a few tiny lives.
