She loved him. She really, truly loved him!
And after getting such a cute little letter, she knew he loved her, too.
She had a faint idea of who her secret admirer was, and if her hunch was correct, she, too, had been admiring him from afar for years. Ever since she had been acclimated into the pride, she had eyes for him and him alone, and just about everyone knew about it. Some even thought she was obsessed over him.
Yet, she was too shy to confront him on it, and, unfortunately, he never seemed to notice.
Or, at least, she and the rest of the world had thought.
She returned the letter with one of her own, requesting that she meet her admirer. He replied to her with a yes and he'd meet her at the river's edge.
She was so excited, she could almost jump for joy. In fact, she kind of did.
She got herself ready and ran off to the river to meet her lover boy.
But instead of seeing the face of the male she had been eyeing for years on end... she was met with somebody else!
Her heart just about dropped into her stomach.
She took one look at him and then ran off, tears flowing down her cheeks. She had been so hopeful... so hopeful, and yet she was met with disappointment.
His older brother was cruel and cold, from what the others spoke of.
