Turtle dove zebra with two turtle dove pets! Now what I want to know is; how do you think she acquired these pals? What's the story there? To try out for this adopt, tell me about how she met her two companions! You can go into as much or as little detail as you want, but my favorite story will win this pretty lady!

prompt:It was a day such as any other on the rescue, overcast and cold - which was par for the course for the Oregon-based rescue - and being as used to it as the residents of said rescue were, life went on just as normal. The zebras had been brought in to allow the pasture land to dry after a blanket of snow had melted, and were finally being let back out, Pigeon among the first at the gate to wait. The familiar whistle of their barn hand caught her attention, and a zebra behind her brayed in response, but then there was another sound, a much smaller one that no one else seemed to have heard, but both of Pidge's ears swung upright and forward as she twisted her head towards the sound.

And there it was again! Echoed after the rattling chains of the gate being opened, and the grey mare started to turn towards where she'd heard it, a clump of grass at the base of a tree just outside of the pen, only to pause as the rest of her herdmates pushed by her into the pasture. Annoyed and desperate now that she hadn't heard another little peep, Pigeon pinned her ears and snorted and snuffed, teeth on show and though she didn't actually nip at any rumps the effect was achieved, the zebras in her way skittering to the side or quickening their pace to get out of her way and finally she was able to cross over to the makeshift nest and peer down her long nose at what'd made the noise.

Two tiny, fluffy brown things uncurled their heads from each other's wings and blinked back up at her with curious chirps, -

prompt: "Oh, you wanna know where I got my pets? Well, when they were due to lay eggs, this Rhino was constantly bugging them and scratching himself with the tree since it was his scratching tree. You see, this Rhino was an old Rhino that didn't really understand anything, so he didn't get the idea that he's bugging a dove family. When the chicks were born, they'd fallen out many times but survived, and it became a regular thing. The doves had enough, so they asked me as I was grazing along past them to assist in trying to tell the senior to find another scratching tree and that this one is now taken. He finally understood and happily claimed another tree. I kind of felt bad for the old Rhino if I am being honest... My Doves so greatly appreciated my assistance that they offered to stay with me. I loved that... Now they're mine and I protect them!"

It’s not uncommon to see raccoons, bunnies, and sometimes birds make their way in and out of Sweet River, as the main house doubles as a wildlife sanctuary when needed. So when Dove spotted the familiar red car pull up in the driveway and someone hop out with a small cat carrier in hand, she paid no attention..

As the days passed Dove forgot about that carrier, most of the time the rescued animals got re-released, and continued about her daily routine of frolicking in the pasture. It wasn’t until one chilly night that Dove got to see the rescues up close, when a staff member came out carrying the carrier and deposited the animals in an empty and cozy stall, and proceeded to close the barn doors for the night. Dove was situated next to that stall and craned her head to see two young Turtle Doves snuggling in the hay, with wings that look like they had been battered in a violent storm. To her surprise the doves saw her and started cooing wildly and moving about. With a snort Dove popped her head back over to her stall and settled in to sleep.

Somehow in the night both Turtle Doves had clawed their way up the wood panels and into Doves stall. You can imagine Doves surprise when she awoke to find the two birds nestled into the crook of her neck, and an even bigger surprise when a staff member came to do morning check-ins and spotted them snuggling! Dove immediately got a sense that she needed to protect and love these birds and treated them gently. From that day on the staff member noticed the way that Dove cared for those two birds and let them all share a stall together.

Months later in a warm spring morning, after the doves wings had fully healed but still unable to fly, the birds had climbed up onto Doves back in the night. When Dove awoke for her breakfast she sensed where they were and got up carefully as to not knock them off. Staff crowded around in amazement as these two Turtle Doves balanced on her back with ease and decided to let them all out in the pasture for some well-needed fresh air. To even more amazement the birds stuck on Doves back while in the pasture and never attempted to escape. From that day on Dove cared for these birds and made sure they were safe out in the pasture and in the stall, never leaving their side.
