Prompt:
She was terrified, having never been exposed to much human contact, her heart pounding in her chest as she remembered the loud drive to this new, unknown place.
She recalled the sounds of colorful, smelly, metallic things whizzing past her, how the experience seemed to go on for hours, and how she felt more and more like she was getting farther away from the small, dark stable she knew.
When her old handler opened the doors to the trailer, she stepped out reluctantly, having been bribed with a carrot, and that's when she saw it.
The sky above her was beautiful as she looked up, crystal clear and filled with swirling, radiant cosmos.
She could see nebulae as if she could reach out and give them a nibble- Look up at the moon as if it was hung there like an ornament, silver and round in all its glory.
Her hooves, so used to the old and rotting floorboards of her old stall, were sinking.
She was now at least ankle-deep in the most beautiful, untouched, pristine snow she had ever seen. Glimmering wildly like minuscule christmas lights set to blink on a slow timer, reflecting something from just beyond the mountains that would stay in her memory forever.
Just behind that waterfall in the distance were dancing, shimmering ribbons of magenta, mint and lime chasing one another across the sky and casting a purple hue over the ranch and the moonlit snow.
Snickers gasped to herself, her eyes widening at the beautiful sight she was beholding, despite having lived at the base of the mountain, her vision of it was always obscured, though she had heard tales of seeing it from the other reindeer and horses that she lived with, but to see it for herself? She'd never have thought.
But there they were, playing and leaping through the stars and hiding behind the tallest peaks of those snow-capped mountains.
The northern lights.
Just as she took a step towards them to get a slightly better look, she noticed something cold and wet hitting her shoulders, something she had never felt before except for those rare early summers when she would go out to the muddy paddock and feel it drip from the rooftops as she walked through, but this wasn't rain.
As she looked up again, she saw a few spare clouds had managed to gather, though not obscuring her view of the moon, stars or aurora borealis completely, and from these clouds was a light flurry of snow.
Absolutely giddy at this new place, she reared like she had been taught to do by her horse friends, and began to gallop towards the opened gate that a blue haired individual had opened.
A paddock! With other deer! And so much of this fluffy white snow!
She was overjoyed, headbutting the soft piles and watching it fly everywhere-- Stomping her feet in the high banks and watching the shapes her hoof prints left in it.
She had never been so happy before a day in her life! And she was meeting so many new friends, like Michael and Evangeline!
It wasn't long before Snickers tuckered herself out and decided to lay down in her much larger new, slightly peppermint scented stall, a skylight overhead still giving her that clear view of the cosmos, and much to her surprise, a new nightlight.
Those sheets of neon colors danced the night away above her head, keeping her company in what she now knew was her new home.
