Offshore winds + the rippling blue ocean waters = a happy Dante. As a pup, Dante grew up on the coast of sunny California, traveling the coast year round with his owners to find the best waves. It didn't matter much to the pup if the water was San Francisco cold or Los Angeles warm; if there were waves, there would be Dante. But of course, he made it clear by the amount of time he spent in the water at each place that he preferred the sun.

So, his owners started to bring him to more and more of the warmer beaches. Malibu, Laguna Beach, Santa Cruz, all of them! While he wasn't surfing, Dante would happily lay out in the sand, letting the sun dry him off and warm his fur. But as the laid-back surfer pup grew up, his long ebony fluff became bleached a fiery red by being in the sun all the time! It didn't matter much to him, and it even made him stand out more in the dog surfing competitions he attended. Even now, although his coat has already been permanently sun-bleached, Dante's always down for some fun in the sun!

Some dogs are inside dogs. Larson, though? She's an outside dog; not by force but she will aggressively refuse to come inside. Most of Boghound's dogs are indoor-outdoor as they please on our property, but getting Larson inside is a chore. She proudly guards our front porch and is the first dog to run out in the rain and come back an absolute mess. On the sunniest day here in south Louisiana, you can be sure Larson will be sitting out in the sun; sunbathing. At her best, she smells like the grass - at her worst, well, she smells like a real boghound.

Prompt: A definite scare, as it came on gradually before completely blowing up! A visit to the vet ruled out anything medically wrong, so a change of diet was recommended. With fish oil supplements and some raw foods, the hope was to get her coat back to its shiny black! Mariah, however, is not at all impressed with the new diet, strangely enough, and makes it known before hurrying and snapping up the kibble of her fellow collies. She’s healthy, and mostly happy it seems, so while a scare to begin with her odd beauty has grown on everyone at Adelaron kennels.

Imagine spending day after day, running in a grass field under the scorching hot summer sun with wind blowing through your fur. That's what Barry had done. While other dogs laid in the shade during the summer, Bartholomew took it upon himself to run around all day... every day for weeks. He wanted to be the fastest collie in the kennel, so he thought that he needed to practice every day, especially with the summer sun's rays bearing down on him like he was food being cooked in an oven. The harsher the conditions, the faster he'd get, right? The other dogs called him crazy, it'd make more sense if he didn't have such a thick coat- but despite all of that, Barry was determined and never gave up. He was so determined to be the fastest dog, that he'd stay outside for as long as he could, on some occasions he even missed some meals! Eventually though, Barry did come to realize that he could still have the same end results if he ran around when the sun went down. He reflects on those days as a sort of lesson to himself; think things through.

Iroh is actually a fairly old collie! He is the oldest dog at the conservatory at 15 years old. Iroh absolutely HATES being in doors. He will stand in the kennels main area, but he's a special boy, in that he gets to roam free 99% of the time on the land. He is the patriarch of the conservatory in a sense. Many of the regular visitors know him, and love him! He is very friendly, and also knows and loves the regulars in return. His absolute favourite place to rest, is the conservatory lawn, right outside of the main building. Its always sunny, always with visitors eating or resting as well. This has caused his coat over some time, to bleach a rusty red colour. He wouldnt have it any other way, spending time with visitors, sometimes eating lunch leftovers from those picnicking, playing with any children that come by, and snoozing.
