Name: RC's 6 Feet Under // Jax
Gender: Male
Prompt:Jax grins, stepping over the pile of bones.
"Nearly there now!" he calls over his shoulder to
Casper.
"Are you sure this is where you saw the spirit?" Casper asks dubiously, clearing a spiderweb from his path.
Jax nods. "Positive."
The dim glow from Casper's small flashlight reveals the stone walls of the catacombs. But other than an eerie chill, nothing seems out of place. The dead are fast asleep tonight.
Jax suddenly stops, sitting down. "Right here."
Casper sits beside him. They wait. And wait.
After three hours, the two cats huddled together, chilled to the bone, still wait.
Casper finally says what they're both thinking.
"Jax, there's nothing down here."
Jax shakes his head. "No, I... I can't leave her yet."
"Her?"
"Forget it," he mumbles.
They wait for a few more minutes before Casper convinces Jax to leave. The fluffy cat, once confident at the beginning of the night, now walks with his head down and tail dragging across the ground.
"So who's her?" Casper asks as they emerge above the ground.
"Nothing. No one," Jax says quickly. Because that is a secret he'd rather his friend never knew. The real reason he had been at the catacombs. Jax felt bad for lying to Casper about there being a ghost, but... he had to see her again. She had been buried with her human, both perishing in a car crash several years ago now. His sister. But for whatever reason, Jax had survived.
It should have been her, he keeps telling himself. Not him. He can't tell Casper about it though. His guilt will cause him to take this secret to the grave.
