Ren looked down at his newly finished art piece proudly. He had to admit that it was one of, if not his best work yet. He excitedly started cleaning up, waiting for the paint to dry, humming to himself as he went. His masterpiece was a gorgeous swirly painting depicting a flower garden containing the entire spectrum of colors. He made quick work of his cleaning, and left the painting there to dry out. As he was packing away his materials, he noticed two small cubs staring at him, intrigued.

He smiled at them warmly, and started padding towards them. "Hey there, kiddos!" He said, "Watcha lookin' at?"

"We... we were wondering if you could teach us how to paint like you do?" The darker gray one said, blue eyes shining hopefully.

"Sure!" Ren exclaimed, leading them towards his den, "It's no trouble at all," He said as he made to start picking out the canvases. His paints were already slung in the pots he kept wrapped around himself. He chose two small canvases for the cubs, and a larger one for himself. "Alright, we got the canvases, whadda you wanna paint?"

The cubs looked down in thought. After a minute or so, their heads popped up and they glanced at each other, nodding slightly.

"Fireflies!"

"A waterfall!"

The two siblings looked at each other for a second, before they began to argue about what they should paint.

Ren looked down at them sympathetically, before splitting them apart with his paw. "Now, now, kiddos," He said, chuckling slightly, "I'm sure we can come to some kind of compromise here. What can we paint right now, without waiting or traveling too far?"

"Uhh, the waterfall?" The lighter cub said hesitantly.

Ren nodded approvingly, "Right. So, how about we go paint the waterfall first, and then later, when it gets dark enough, we could paint the waterfall again, only in different lighting with the fireflies," He suggested, "This would allow for a simple lighting study, and let both of you paint what you want."

The cubs nodded at each other. They all began to walk towards the waterfall, and were stopped quickly by Urania and Ayo.

"Well hey there, guys! You wanna join us? We were just gonna go paint for a bit," Ren said.

Urania looked at Ayo questioningly. He nodded his head excitedly, eyes shining. She nodded her head slightly, motioning for Ren to take the lead.

"Cool. Kiddos, I'm gonna need you to take your canvases and follow Urania and Ayo. I'm gonna go get them some so that they can join us," Ren said, handing the cubs their canvases. He watched as they bounded after the older pair. Chuckling, he grabbed the canvases from his den. I need to get some more of these... He thought, noting the lack of supplies he needed. He made a mental note to go down to the trading center later in order to get more materials, before turning back and walking into the woods.

Ever since she was a cub, Toza knew she liked girls. This wasn't a problem in her family (although it was rather obvious to her parents). As she grew, one lioness in particular caught her eye. Acantha was beautiful and clever, everything Toza could possibly look for in a girlfriend. She was delighted when Acantha finally noticed her and invited Toza to join her friend group for lunch. Months passed and with each day, Toza became more distant from her friends and closer with Acantha. In the beginning, the popular Acantha seemed only sweet and generous. But a darker side emerged, one Toza didn't care to see. She turned a blind eye to this behavior and continued only praising Acantha.

It so happened that one day, a new student arrived. He was quiet and didn't have too many friends. Toza wanted to say something, maybe invite him to her group. But Acantha laughed when she told her this.

"We can't just let every lion join us Toza," she had sneered. Toza was taken aback.
"Why not? He seems lonely."
Acantha shook her head. "So? He's weird. Always listening to music and folding paper. Not running and talking like us. Sorry, but no."
Toza looked at the ground, a little upset. She remembered what her old friends said about Acantha. Maybe... no. Toza shook her head. Acantha was popular and always kind to her. Surely she wasn't bad?

During lunch, the new kid sat alone. The other lions had all decided to play a game. Toza liked this game, and wondered if the new kid would too. But Acantha had said... Toza sighed. She closed her eyes briefly and gritted her teeth. No. She wasn't going to let him be alone. No matter what Acantha said.

"Come on Toza. Where are you going? We're about to start," Acantha asked.
"I'm going to see if he wants to join us."
Acantha frowned, locking eyes with Toza. Toza stared back, determined. She then turned away, walking over to the new lion.

"Hi! Would you like to join us?" she asked him. He looked up at her, startled.
"Um, yeah! That- that would be great!" he squeaked out, beaming.

Toza smiled as she walked him back over, ignoring Acantha's angry glare. If including him made her fall out of Acantha's favor, then so be it. I will not disclude anyone, she thought to herself as they talked about his music and origami.

When Gilbert was a cub in his pride, other lions would treat unmanned lions as outcasts. In his heart of hearts, he hated to think of treating another lion in such a way. It did worry him as a cub, though if he would grow to have a mane of his own. As he grew, his mane came in though he realized how silly it was to fret over it. Friends that grew with him didn't grow manes, and then he was expected to treat them as outcasts. For him, he picked not to treat his long time friends as freaks. Knowing that having or not having a mane was not their choice. This caused backlash toward him and angered many of his other pride members and family. He stuck by it, though even if it was upset to others. To him, everyone should be treated as an equal manned or not. Before he knew it, the next leader to the pride decided that any unmanned lions should be banished, and if they didn't leave, they would be penalized to death. This frightened him, so he urged his friends and the others to leave. None of them wanted to though this was their home; they had nowhere else to go. Within a day, he watched in horror as his friends fought for their lives. Gilbert fought alongside them to show them that not all the manes where corrupt. It was a battle that ended the lives of his friends and threatened to end his. So he ran from the place he had always called home but knew it wasn't the place he wanted to be. He wanted to live in pride that included all, no matter the way they look. Dehydrated and starving, he stumbled upon another lion as he crawled along a beach. She was kind and recently had lost her pride and had planned on continuing it in this territory. With her help, he got over to the mountain, where she began forming a camp. He learned her name was Willabella; they shared their stories. Then she offered him to stay and help her rebuild a pride that she had lost. At first, he was hesitant, but he could tell she was kind and caring. She nursed him back to health, and they slowly began to form their pride. (391 wc)

Congrats! This was a really cute story. I liked how Ren took time to teach the kids, and also invited adult lions to come paint too. I'll color Ren shortly!
