Explanation: The most meaningful constellation to Sabre is Canis Major. Years ago he was born in the dead of winter. His mother was sickly and weak from the lack of food, and did not survive his birth. Sabre (as a newborn colt) staggered instinctively towards his mother’s herd, but the other horses rejected him, for a horse born in the snow is bad luck for the herd, his fate should be left for the wolves to decide his fate. The herd moved on without the shivering colt, and Sabre watched, not understanding the world around him as his fellow horses left their hoof prints in the snow. He wobbled back to the tree line and curled up for warmth, no comprehension that this night would likely be not only his first but also his last. He was awoken slightly by the distant howls of creatures unknown to him, but he dismissed it and groggily went back to sleep. When the colt stirred awake the afternoon sun met his eyes for the first time, and Sabre felt something soft nestled around him. He looked up to see wolves, wolf pups to be exact. 7 of the little canines cuddled next to the foal. No mother wolf in sight, for their mother had been killed in the hunt. The pups had crowded around the only source of heat in the brutal mountain wind, therefore saving all of their lives. And from that day forward, the goal and pups depended on each other for survival. The pups, named Asher, Czar, Dakota, Flint, Rune, Spartan, and Cobalt hunted small squirrels and small rodents as to not deeply disturb their hooved friend, and in turn Sabre hunted down bushes of berries and dig up roots for himself and the wolves to (grudgingly mind you) eat. And soon enough a year had passed. The eight creatures had made it through winter and summer alike, and still the pack was strong. They hunted together, suffered together, fought together, and loved together. To this day no one has ever documented such extreme cross species loyalty, especially between a prey animal and a hunter. Sabre’s favorite constellation to this day is Canis Major, becasue all these years later, he remembers that winter night when his herd abandoned him, and he remembers looking up in the sky and seeing the brightest star Sirius, and seeing the faint outline of a wolf. Perhaps the sky’s way of proclaiming a prophecy. So you see, the unique thing about Sabre is he doesn’t have a herd, he doesn’t have any other horses. He has something better. He has a pack.
