you're slightly spooked by the noise, but as you turn towards it, it's obvious that the
source of the sound is a brightly colored kalon. they look about as nervous as you are,
but as you hold up a paw in a wave, they run up and give you a high five!
how strange...

saki was surprised by the ‘five.

he was in the middle of introducing himself when his companion just... highfived him. he shook his head to show no, and tried again. “my name is saki-” slap. again. ”man kids really love highfives these days!” she giggled.

he wrinkled his nose. he’d offered to teach some kampers ASL, and this is what he ended up with. one girl red as a firework. spat like one, too. he wiped his face off with the back of his hand.

he stood up and wrote on the board- “spell your name out.” she took a deep breath to steady herself. “b-u-t-t m-u-n-c-h” she signed before promptly exploding. “thats what you’re acting like!” he signed to her, but then realized she wouldn’t understand.

he made the motion for “again”, becoming a little aggravated now. ”fine, fine. c-a-s-e-“ she was cut off by saki slamming his hands onto hers when she signed ‘e’. he stood in triumph.

“now sign it again. this time, watch out.”

adelaide was sent back by the force of the high five, the physical contact was one she was not prepared for. puzzled and frantically looking around, the boisterous kamper noticed her confusion and narrowed their eyes.

"no high five, man? jeez, have you never heard of them?" they asked.

adelaide furrowed her eyebrows at the remark, scrunching up her nose whilst she rubbed the palm of her hand, the sting of the sudden intrusion eased. realizing the kamper's ignorance toward her customs, she decided to explain it to them.

"where i come from, any physical contact other than a gentle touch is considered an act of hostility," she began, watching the kamper raise a questioning eyebrow. "in my customs this would be a declaration of war," she added, horror evident on her features.

it was soon replaced with confusion when an amused snort left the kamper's throat. "well, listen here, this is kamp. where we are, high fives are supposed to be cool. so let loose!" they exclaimed, gesturing the notion with a wild wave of their arms.

adelaide considered their proposal for a moment, before nodding. the corners of her mouth lifted into a slight smile, and the kamper was grinning from ear to ear.

she felt herself being pulled away by the kamper, the force almost dragging her as the kamper led her away.

"I can never just leave someone hanging!" she grinned, high fiving him again which made Koraki burst out laughing, to the point where he had to hold his sides. "I like you. What's your name?" he finally managed to ask after his outburst. "Bethany! But people call me Sweet Tea!" she grinned. "Who are you?" she tilted her head to the side, still smiling. "Koraki. Why don't you come back to kamp with me, I'm sure the councillors will love your positivity" he smiled and beckoned her to follow her. "Hey, can I call you High Five?" he asked suddenly and Bethany laughed. "Of course!"

the high five experience: Scorpio very much did not expect the high-five- much less the other kalon running at him. He never had the best balance, and even when he attempted to dodge the paw, it smacked his with as much force as it looked like it would. Much to his surprise Scorpio didn’t fall down- though when he opened his eyes, the world was literallyspinning.

The other kalon seemed rather surprised too, from the multiple times Scorpio saw her as he spun. That was when he finally realized what had happened. He was spinning like a top, his movement spurred from his intense balance in one spot and the nuclear high-five of the other Kamper.
