why do the horns glow?:
In the forest where he lives (very quietly, he's extremely shy. It's rare another JB or animal ever seers him), there's a lake rumored to hold slivers the moon that fell there long ago.
Supposedly, some sort of meteor hit the moon (leaving a distinctive crater on its surface), and a few bits of moondust fell into a distant lake. The lake was named Lake Celena (a Greek name meaning "goddess of the moon") in honor of this legend.
Avis himself never believed in this story, but he enjoys the solitude of Lace Celena and lingers there often on quiet nights or foggy mornings.
One night, the lake glowed with a brilliant reflection of the full moon above. It seemed to glow beyond the water itself, as if the air surrounding it was softly glowing, too. Avis knelt to marvel at its beauty and drink from the water, bit of his antlers dipping in, too.It seemed strange how the glowing water reflected onto his body, and in some strange trick of the light his antlers seemed to glow.
But the light never faded.
Avis has a newfound respect for the legend of the lake, and his antlers glow brighter on nights with a full moon.
