Their writing style is deceptively simple, if you don't listen closely enough to the words the songs just sound quietly pleasing and calm, but if you listen close the rhymes are lovely but not cliche/predictable, and the lyrics are balanced and natural. Their writing makes me want to write like that.
This is the first verse of their song Cleopatra:
"I was Cleopatra, I was young and an actress
When you knelt by my mattress, and asked for my hand
But I was sad you asked it, as I laid in a black dress
With my father in a casket, I had no plans"
Actress/Casket/Asked it/Black dress/Casket.
None are perfect rhymes, but none sound forced either (like when someone's "on their knees" and "Beggin baby please" or "feeling your love" in "heaven up above"....*glares*). Their style comes off like someone I love just sitting to tell me a story, and it happening to come out as a gentle, lovely song.
Favorite Song (from prev. band):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_II0fc7hgNYThe song's about leaving behind everything you've ever known because it's just not working, and how much courage it takes, but that it's possible. And the lyrics have that same deceptively simple allure that's lovely if you look closer.
