have recently been declared naturally tame as well as sapient.
Scientists are asking the general population to consider adopting
Kalons for further study in their capabilities of intelligence.

Their shining tails are used for identification and showing off,
which is helpful when spotting another Kalon from afar. This
association with other Kalons is why they are head-over-heels
for any shiny or colorful item that they come across!

he sidesteps questions like a fox trots through bear traps. his words are a dance to the beat of his own drum, beatbeatbeating in his chest with the sound of music. elusive smile, turning tricks at bar booths with the ease of an artist. the cards in his hands move effortlessly between his fingers and— oh, whoops. i won again.

a trick of the cards, he always says. no one had to know about the extra ace in his sleeve.

he flashes a grin at the next table, changing tactics. wanna see a magic trick? he says. cue a flourish of the hand, a smile and a wink. pure theater. his audience is dazzled. perfect distraction. they don't even notice his hand slipping away with their wallets. time to get this dog and pony show on the road, he thinks.

adrenaline's still flowing through his veins when he makes it outside. it's raining again. hood up, no umbrella. he leaves behind the music and strobe lights of his favorite club and enters the night. he stands under a bridge, pulling out today's haul. 80, 90, 100 dollars. tch. never enough for what he needs: a ticket out of this trashheap town and a place far, far away from the yelling and screaming inside the literal shack he calls a house.

not a home. a house.

at night he dreamt of hotel suites and soft linens. all-day buffets and a view of the pacific coast. a place where cops would address him as sir instead of punk. a place where wouldn't come home with bruises, citations, hurt pride. if money made the world turn, then maybe it'd turn his life around too— maybe it's wishful thinking, huh. but a couple broken rules to mend a broken dream?

he'd take that chance.

paws fell heavy on split asphalt, echoing throughout the empty city streets. huffs of air broke past clenched teeth, oxygen inhaled sharply, stinging as he swallowed it greedily. years of running and yet he struggled to catch his breath, even after losing his pursuer three blocks ago. alek straightened his back, glancing cautiously over his shoulder as he ducked into an alley, pressing forward. shadows lurched around him as he hurried down the hidden pathway, but he seemed to know where to go; every step he took was calculated and sure.

"mama," he called, the syllables cracking upon his tongue. he had come to a dead end, or so it seemed to the naked eye. a pile of palettes stood before him, leaning haphazardly against one another. just trash. there was a hushed squeak as the wood panels moved, inching away from the wall and he stepped back, rushing to help pull it open. behind was the entrance to his home and between them stood a beautiful, tired woman - his mother. she gave him a quick once over, a stern look upon her face when she noticed the bundle tucked away under his arm. he offered it to her. she flashed a curious look at him before she carefully unfolded it, revealing a handful of fruits. "i made dinner." the words left a grin upon his features and she exhaled, her face softening at his humor.

stepping aside, she let him in, following behind him. with all the care a mother could have, she set aside the meal and turned to gaze upon her child. "my sweet prince," she hummed, her voice hushed with adoration. she stood on the points of her toes, reaching up to sweep a thumb across his cheekbone. "one day you will have your crown."

He's climbed his way up the social ladder--
though it is through being completely and utterly unpleasant.
He's rude and he's snarky,

though how many real friends does he really have?

So why is he like this?
Well, you could certainly say he didn't get enough hugs growing up.

He wasn't always a kid who shoved others in the dirt
or stole their lunches,

He was just a kid like everyone else.
Though, a kid with a complex.
He'd always feel inadequate--
he always felt a tinge of jealousy whenever someone was better than him.

He tried his hardest to be 'the best' at everything,
but he always either fell short,
or never had his accomplishments recognized.

His actions always shadowed by that of another,
whether it be a sister, a classmate, anyone.

Years of constantly being put down compiled into a nasty
feeling.

He hated himself.
He wasn't the best.
He was ALWAYS #2

And who even remembers you then?

Fake it till you make it is what he heard,
so he started acting upon it.
Since then, though he felt like he was the worst,
he's put on this bravado of being the best.

He's arrogant, he's rude,
but now he has a strong energy.

So hey, it worked, right?

He's genuinely come to believe that he is the best of the best. The persona that he's put on has actually become his identity, and he wears it proudly, to most people's displeasure. He's pretty popular reputation wise, but that doesn't mean he's well liked. In fact, any given person (who isn't trying to kiss up to him) would say that they DON'T like him.

Does he realize this? It's hard to say. He acts like everybody loves him around others. Though catch him alone sometime...

lions don't lose sleep over the opinion of a sheep

besides his father, felix backs down to nobody. he fights for what he believes in, or at least,
what he's brave enough to fight for. that being said, he is very bold. he went against his father's
will to get his piercings. but, there are just some things he isn't brave enough to do. he has
very strong beliefs on what is right and wrong, but 99% of the time, he keeps to himself. he's
also very focused and sincere, and holds high standards for himself. there's just one thing
about felix he isn't so proud of; he is gay. to anyone who asks about his sexuality, he is straight.
he hides who he really is. he knows his father would never accept him. he's already covered
in piercings and has a wild hairstyle, the last thing his father needs to know is that felix is gay.
he always repeats a quote to himself; lions don't lose sleep over the opinion of a sheep. "my
father's opinion shouldn't change who i want to be. i can be gay if i want!" but his father is
no sheep. he is a roaring, towering, ferocious, lion. compared to him, felix is nothing short
of a mouse. felix knows that he shouldn't hide in a closet forever, but he's tried so hard to
get his father at this level of acceptance. his father already disapproves most things about
felix's appearance, and felix has worked and worked just to get his father to just accept it.
there's always a slight chance that his father would be okay with it, but he doesn't want to
risk it. his only son, a disappointment. a shame to the deckard family name. it's just felix
and his dad. no mother, no siblings. felix is the only one there to continue the generation,
and he is gay.
