Simas are cat/wolf creatures basically. Their paws resemble a wolves while their body structure
could resemble a cat. Simas are also known as 'Sword Mammels'. This name comes from their tail.
The tail is the most important part of a Sima's body. They resemble a sword most of all. They are
thick and fluffy at the base and when the go down the tail, it gets thinner then widens into two
tail guards like the guards on a sword. The jewel acts like the blade.

Rumor across the lands says that when a sima with a heart jewel experiences a huge heartbreak their jewel breaks too.
What happened to this poor sima to caused them to be so hurt?

Why are they so heartbroken?

Thy are so heart broken simply because... They've never felt what it's like to be loved. It pains them, to miss something they've never had. They hope to someday find out what it means to be loved, and maybe that will fix the broken feeling in her heart and the broken jewel on her tail.

Cadeyrn walked through the park with Fenna, a smile on his face. The conversation
they had earlier had put him in a good mood, one that he didn't think could be soured
by anything. Somehow, while they were eating breakfast, the conversation had turned
to kits, and having them someday. He had always hoped that one day he and Fenna
would have a family, but she had never really expressed a desire for it before now.

He had wondered faintly, more than once, if she found him repulsive in a way, or if the
thought of kits was too daunting of one. Now he knew she had simply been unsure of
herself, and perhaps a little worried about what he thought of kits.

So certainly, nothing could dampen his mood. He looked to his side, where Fenna should
be. Where had she gone? A sigh of slight frustration leaves him as he starts looking around
the park for her.

Was that her tail peeking out from behind some tall shrubs?

He moved over to it, his paws silent on the soft grass. It sounded like two simas were there,
but yes, that was certainly her tail. What was she doing back there? If she was speaking
with a friend she had no need to hide.

He made his way around the shrubs, then soon felt the sting of tears as they gather in his
eyes. Fenna, his love, was laid atop another, kissing them.

Cadeyrn was overcome by grief. Just that morning they had discussed kits! Now she was
kissing another? Even more heartbreaking, she was kissing another female.

He turned away but forgot to be silent - not that it mattered overmuch. In the tranquility of
the day the sound of a jewel breaking would be unmistakable, and so it was. The kissing stops
- Fenna shuffled to her paws, stuttering excuses. He faintly heard the words 'accident' and
'didn't mean to', but it was too late. That kiss was certainly not an accident, the passion, the
certainty of love behind such a gesture could not be accidental, or faked.

He didn't stay to hear the rest of her quiet explanation, which was lost to his ears anyway. As
tears pour like rain from his eyes he began running through the park, back to the home he had
shared with Fenna prior to today. He was certain she would be better off keeping the home,
her and her newfound love.

His tears continued to fall even as he began to pack his possessions, as many of them as he
could possibly carry. He left her the images of their memories together over the years, taking
everything that was important to him instead. He gathered his books, his manuscripts, his
jumbled notes of plot ideas and characters for the books he had hoped to one day write.

He even took the necklace he had been hoping to give her on their anniversary, a beautiful
silver chain with a heart carved from Moonstone for a pendant. She wouldn't need it.

All of these things he packed carefully but tightly in his suitcase, filling it almost to bursting.
He took another bag and threw together his pillows and blankets, anything he might need. He
wasn't quite certain where he was headed.

She came into the bedroom, more excuses on her tongue, a few tears seen in her eyes. He
didn't look at her, at the shards of his jewel in her paw, or the frown on her face.

He felt cold, like ice, and yet as malleable as clay - so easily manipulated. He had been, to
believe what they had spoken of was sincere. Her heart belonged to another. He found a small
bag and scooped up the shards of his broken heart, hiding them away in the duffel bag.

Nothing she could utter would change his mind, his heart. The cold that had come over him felt
like the only sincere emotion of their time together.

He met her eyes by mistake as he shouldered the bag and picked up his suitcase.

He felt yet more tears in his eyes as he left.

He would never be the same after today.

Sanako

Why are they so heartbroken?
Although it's an unremarkable tale, certainly one that is not just unique to her, it is one that lingers within her. The Sima she secretly had a crush on asked her out as a joke. Nervous and excited, she gladly accepted! Only for him to laugh in her face, as did his friends that appeared beside him, who had been listening in, against her knowledge. She was told he would never date, "such a weird, ugly girl." Since then, she's avoided most other Simas, unable to get over the harshness of his terrible joke. She is entirely afraid to even try to love again.

---

It was the first day of the new school year! Young Simas from all over attended the classes held by teachers, learning the many skills they would need as they left their awkward teenage years behind and became adults, themselves. Sanako woke up early that morning, in spite of not being able to fall asleep early the night before. Late to sleep, early to rise, such a thing happened every year, it seemed.

in spite of waking up ahead of a time, she didn't arrive to their school site early. At home, she was distracted by one thing or another, until she realized that, if she didn't hurry, she might have actually ended up late. In such a rush to get to school on time, she wasn't paying close attention and, as it happened often, she tripped over her own feet. She tumbled into another Sima as she entered the school grounds, knocking them to the ground with her in an awkward heap.

"I-I'm so sorry," she stammered out as she pushed herself away from the other Sima and rose back to her feet. It was only then, after dipping her head in apology, that she looked up to see the other Sima's face. Oh. Oh no! They were angry! They were glaring at her. They were definitely annoyed.

"Why don't you watch where you're going?" He snapped.

Moving a step back, Sanako shrinked away from him. "I-I told you that I was sorry." That was all she could manage, never a very brave Sima. If at all possible, she tended to avoid wanting to cause trouble and confrontation, but here she was. Such an awful situation!

"Hey, are you okay?" Another Sima approached the two, stopping beside Sanako to look her over. It was the voice of another male. Definitely.

It was only after a moment that she realized he was speaking to her. "O-oh, yes! I'm fine," she managed to get out, turning to look at the new stranger.

That was it. That was when Sanako fell in love at first sight. He wasn't the most handsome Sima around. In fact, he was a little bit nerdy, but he was cute and he'd come to her rescue. It was really no surprise that she felt her heart pang in her chest as she looked at him.

"And you," he looked at the other male, the one that Sanako had bumped into, "are you okay?"

With another male interfering, this just wasn't worth the effort. Catching the eye of a teacher would have been a bad idea. He huffed. "Yeah," he answered shortly, turning to leave.

Once he was several paces away, the male that had came to Sanako's aid smiled over at her. "Hey, you're okay now. You'd better hurry, before you're late."

At the time, Sanako was too embarrassed, after realizing her sudden feelings, to answer him. She could only nod, given her own awkward smile back at him.

From then on, her eyes followed him everywhere. They ended up in the same class, so it was easy. She was taken in by his kindness but, no matter how much she tried to talk herself into it, Sanako just couldn't bring herself to confess to him. Days turned into weeks, and weeks into months. She watched him the whole time, but she was beginning to watch him change. At first, he'd been a fairly quiet male, himself, but he was clever and he was always helpful. She wasn't the only Sima that he was kind to. But, recently, he'd fallen into a bad crowd. He could have made friends with anyone, at least, she thought so, but he'd befriended some guys that were less than savory characters.

It was lunch time one day and, as usual, she was eating outside, by herself. She'd learned that he and his friends were often in the area at lunch time, so she couldn't help herself.

Unbeknownst to her, his friends had certainly come to notice her presence. "Hey, that girl always stares at you. I bet she likes you?" One of his friends pointed out, gesturing toward her with a nod of her head.

Her crush really had no idea what his friend was talking about, but looked over at her, and frowned. Oh. It was her.

"I dare you to ask her out as a joke," another friend said. "I bet she'll says yes."

"Yeah, yeah. If she does, we'll all pay for you lunches the rest of the week," his third friend encouraged him, laying down the stakes.

The three of his friends hid away then, out of sight, leaving him there by himself. He heaved a sigh, but approached her anyway. "Hey, Sanako," he greeted her casually, wearing that usual smile of his.

Sanako was taken in by it immediately, smiling back when she looked up at him, but her heart was pounding in chest. He'd spoken to her! He said her name[/u]! She just couldn't believe it. Nervous and excited, it was difficult for her to even manage a quiet, "Y-yes?"

"I was wondering..." he began, meeting her gaze. "Would you go out with me?"

For a moment, it was as though the entire world had stopped. Those simple words from him made it feel as though her heart was going to jump right out of her chest! No, those butterflies, maybe... maybe she was going to puke. Oh gosh. What should she do? This was what everyone always hoped for! That their crush would come and confess to [i]then
. She could barely think straight, barely contain herself. She had to answer, she reminded herself. "Um... Yes?" She nodded her head, embarrassed and blushing. "Yes, I'll... go out with you."

It was only after she'd given her answer that the other three males burst into laughter, coming out of their hiding place in a group. "See! What did I tell you? She totally said yes," one of them said, unable to hide his terrible amusement.

"He'd never go out with such a weird, ugly girl like you!" Another said.

"Just look at you. You're so creepy, always sitting by yourself and staring at him!"

Sanako could only look on, horrified. Her chest hurt, as if her heart was sinking into the pit of her stomach, and her stomach was in knots. He... he'd only asked her out as joke! She was ugly. He must have thought so, if his friend said it.

"Isn't that right?" One of them coaxed an answer out of him.

"Yeah." Her crush simply agreed with them, laughing along with them, not even bothering to look at Sanako anymore.

Tears welled up in her eyes. She couldn't say anything. She couldn't defend herself. All she could do was scramble onto her feet and run away from them all.

She was weird. She was ugly. He couldn't possibly like her.

The damage was done.

Character Info:
At this point, Sanako is fairly insecure. She's not all that confident in herself and she keeps herself isolated from others, afraid of being hurt again. To be honest, even she realizes that she has probably overacted, taking those words to heart when she really shouldn't have, but she just can't help it. Still, a small part of her wants to change, but she's still afraid.

Most of her days are spent at home, whenever possible. Her home is comfortable. She's alone. There is no one there to judge her. She is free to be herself. In all honestly, she's a sweet girl and has a talent for things like cooking and sewing, but she does have some rather unusual tastes. As surprising as it may be, she has a thing for horror books, films and memorabilia, which she collects, as well as creepy things like medical models and other objects that one might usually find in a haunted house rather than a girl's bedroom.

She's the kind of girl that prefers quiet or stormy nights, curled up in a warm blanket, reading or watching one of the movies from her extensive collection.

Ultimately, she's actually very kind and protective of those close to her, but that's just it. She doesn't make friends easily. She never has, so, at the moment, that applies to no one. She just keeps to herself. Perhaps, one day, though, someone will come along and bring her back out of the darkness.

Random Tidbits:
+ Her room has black out curtains, which blocks out all sunlight, preferring artificial light.
+ Easily suffers from heat exhaustion.
+ Has a fondness for snow.
+ Ideal vacation is visiting a cabin in the mountains during winter.
+ One day, might like to open a horror museum.
+ Believes in ghosts and other entities.
+ Often drinks coffee, tea, hot cocoa, or milk.
+ Had piano lessons when she was younger.

Felicity is independent. While she
enjoys the company of others, she’s
perfectly happy being on her own. She
really dislikes having roommates
though. It just stresses her out too
much to have another person living in
her space. Friends are semi exceptions.
A month or two is okay, but she’ll be
counting the days until they move out.
She can go for much longer with her
one or two closest friends. She’s a
good listener and her friends often
come to her to vent or receive advice.
She spends a lot of time watching tv
and putting together jigsaw puzzles.
She hates fights and emotional
outbursts, they make her so
uncomfortable. People are so much
easier to be around when everyone’s
calm and level headed.

Why are they so heartbroken?

Felicity stared at the text.

**The sima across the bar caught her eye and gave her a friendly smile. She’d noted them when she had walked in and sat at the bar ten minutes ago. She hadn’t given them much thought then, more intent on ordering her favorite drink after a long day. Now they stood up and carried their drink over to where she sat.

“May I sit with you?” They asked, polite.

She tilted her head and eyed them over her shoulder. “You may.”**

She tried to stand. Her limbs seemed to have gone to jelly all of a sudden. She had just enough presence of mind to grab her headphones as she stumbled for the door.

**She woke up with the sima from the bar at her back, an arm thrown haphazardly over her side. She let herself bask in the warmth for awhile, in no hurry to wake. Eventually she sat up and half turned to prod them with a paw. “Morning. Do you want something to eat?**

She walked out the door of her apartment building. Split second decision. Right or left? Sharp turn. Left it was. Didn’t matter anyway. She plugged her headphones into her phone and put the buds in her ears. She picked up the pace. Her paws eating up the sidewalk. The sun was setting at her back. The sky before her the cool purple of approaching night.

**They texted a couple times that week. Next Thursday night she met them at their place to catch the new episode of a show they both liked. They went out to get fast food and brought it back to eat. In between bites of food she heard about their work and their friends. They watched their show, commentary flowing back and forth between them. She traded kisses with them on and off during the episode. When the credits rolled she turned and kissed them, paws on their chest, playful grin on her lips. One arm wound around her shoulders and they blindly reached for the remote and switched off the tv, not breaking their kiss.**

Felicity didn’t have a particular destination in mind. She wandered the neighborhood, up and down the sidestreets. Her paws taking her in familiar patterns on automatic. To the coffee shop, the park, towards the bus stop and back. She wondered if the simas she passed thought she was acting strange. But nobody bothered her and she was grateful for that. She just flipped through her songs. She clicked on whichever ones might best drown out the noise in her head and walked on.

**She invited them to come on a fundraising walk she and her friends were participating in. They brought along a friend as well. They saw a lot more of each other after that. They hit it off with her friends and turned up to more of their get togethers. She didn’t hide the casual touches and kisses from her friends. They’d often go home together afterward. They invited her out with their friends as well. While she didn’t connect with them as much, she still enjoyed herself. They were a fun group and she ended up going out with them a lot.**

Her steps slowed as she neared the front of her building. She held her phone up and swiped frantically across the screen. There was no number indicating new text messages. She opened the conversation and read the words again.

I’m not doing this. I don’t want to talk anymore.

She felt her breathing pick up. She still didn’t understand. Did she do something? What could have brought this on? All she knew was that she wasn’t ready to lose this relationship. She was so happy. Just the the thought of them brought a smile to their lips and brightened her day. She felt like the world was open with possibilities when they were together.

**What luck it was that they’d asked to sit with her that night. Felicity had gained a good friend. A funny, sweet, interesting friend. Somewhere in it all, the milk shakes and shouting at the tv and long nights, she realized she fell for them. It took her a while to realize. The warmth in her chest and the giddiness she felt around them. Was this what it was to like someone? Over chinese food and between an enthusiastic discussion of favorite characters, she told them she liked them.**

That had been four months after they met in the bar. Four months until she said “will you be my sweetheart?” Another three before she said “I love you.” They had taken things slow. Only deepening their romantic intimacy as fast as either were comfortable with. Romance turned out to be a lot more complex than Felicity expected. It was a learning curve of gestures and sweet words and moments for just the two of them. But she was happy, because it was this sima she cared deeply for. And she guessed that was the point, wasn’t it?

She leaned against the brickwork of her building. She wasn’t crying, but she felt like she should. Was there another sima in the world who could make her feel like that again? What were her chances of finding them? A crack echoed in the night. Followed by a musical tickling as her jewel cracked and the splinters fell to the concrete.

Looking Back...

Felicity knew she couldn’t them to be her friend. And she shouldn’t harass them, no matter how much she wanted answers. A week later she allowed herself one text message. “Why? Did I upset you?” Moving on wasn’t something she decided for herself in the beginning. She went about her life much as she’d done before, but now there was a hitch in the machinery. Moments, big and small, where she was reminded that things had changed. After lots of venting to friends and a lot of sad music. Felicity made the conscious decision to move forward. So, at her lowest point, Felicity sought out a counselor to help her sort out her feelings. She put everything of theirs in a box for when she was ready. She journaled and spent time with her friends. Weeks turning into months until she no longer counted the days or woke reaching to check her text messages.

Moving Forward...
