The scent of brown sugar wafts through the air. It is warm, welcoming, curling around the people inside. There are many people- many children, many adults. The children have their face pressed against glass, pointing and clamoring. The bustle adds to the warm atmosphere, but there is nothing so warm as the smile of the woman serving. What flavor would you like, she asks. How many scoops? Waffle cone? Oh, they’re making some right now, can’t you smell it?

You can smell it, oh, that’s the sugary scent. You can wait. The ice cream parlor is a wonderful place to wait in. You sit in one of the stools, the vinyl squeaks. It’s a worn red, not gaudy at all. The checkered floor might be considered old fashioned, but it fits with the place- you can see the scuff marks of over-eager children shoving their chair back on the floor.

A door in the back opens, and a child comes tumbling out. Pink and oh-so-fluffy, she falls to the floor and you lose her behind the countertops of the ice cream display. Back up she comes, eager to help out behind the counter. This is a family owned store- the grand sign on the front proclaims. Maybe there’s another floor above this ice cream parlor?


There is- two floors, and this child knows it well. She lives above the ice cream parlor that her mother owns. She can often hear the bustle of the crowd below her, but she’s never found it bothersome. She likes to get up early. She likes being around everyone, likes working to make some of the waffle cone (and stealing some for herself). Above the ice cream parlor, the home itself is just as cheery. There are decorations everywhere- knicknacks, mostly. A carved figure, a porcelain swan, it’s an eclectic mix. She knows every little piece by name, and sometimes she sets up expansive stories. They usually involve ice cream.

It’s a small home, but it is large enough for the two of them. The sofa is pale blue, and covered with quilts. She’s getting larger, but she can still hide under them. Her room is attached and off-white. There is a poster for the parlor, and a poster of the parlor the year before that. It’s a timeline of sorts, and it starts the year she was born. The posters make for her wallpaper. Her bed is so pink she might get lost in it. Candy decorates the borders, and though she thinks she might be getting too old for it, she is fond of it anyway. Besides, can you ever become too old for sugar?

This is the building that was her home for many years. She thinks even now, the smell of sugar clings to her. When she sleeps under plainer sheets, candy still dots her dreams.

Childhood Home: Petal was born in 1983 Her parents, worked as florists in a small alley way in a small street they would give free flowers for those kind enough, she would work and tend the flowers as well as dye them, overtime her fur was stained a little by the dye but she did not mind. She also slept in the corner as well, she would also grow the flowers in a small dirt patch on the side. She had some friends and was nicknamed 'petite petal' due to her short stature. Over time, decades passed and she continued to grow flowers to those on the streets.
