Cottonwood Ranch Jousting Tournament Horse #6

Postby ImmyWimmy1 » Sun Oct 20, 2013 1:23 pm

One of the PM suggestions I got gave the colours 'Dark Purple and Green', so that's what I did! X3

This stallion is a Rose Dappled Grey (Bay base coat) with a Blaze and two Half-cannons. Due to the Rose Grey phase in this stallion, the minimum age is probably 3 years and the maximum age is probably 7. With age, he will become a noble white steed! His colours, as stated above, are Dark Purple and Pale Green and his symbol is the Alpha Wolf. Where he comes from, the wolf is a symbol of dominance and order.

Show Name:
Bad Wolf
Barn Name:
Dalek
Age:
4 years
Gender:
Stallion
Breed:
Andalusian
Colouration:
Rose Dappled Grey (Bay base coat) with Blaze and two Half-cannons
Personality:
Dalek is an aggressive, hot-headed stallion. He deals very poorly with other stallions, and most mares. For the most part, Dalek remains alone, as all attempts to socialize him have gone askew. He is very impulsive, and more than once has had to have been extracted from sticky situations, often involving the neighbor's dogs. A no-nonsense kind of guy, when someone upsets Dalek it is unlikely they will every get back into the stallions good books. Despite a few short-comings, Dalek is very ambitious and courageous, always giving one hundred and ten percent to whatever the job it -- as long as it remains interesting enough to hold this easily distracted stallion's attention.
History:
Dalek was born of high Andalusian bloodlines, originally intended to go into performance in the ring. Unfortunately, this hot-headed stallion was too much trouble between his escape attempts, fights and bullying the mares. For almost a year it was thought that Dalek would be unattainable, untouchable. Then the past owners heard about jousting. Dalek learned swiftly, enjoying the work. We don't know how he ended up searching for a new owner, but we know he will find a secure home with me.
What are the roles of alphas and omegas in a wolf pack?:
In a true wolf pack, there is less of a distinction in rank than what a human makes of it. We put wolves into terms that we can understand, some of these being the strict hierarchy. It is true that wolves have a social order, however it is not an order in terms of human understanding. What we define as the 'alpha' pair is a pair of mated wolves that 'lead' the pack. The alpha female has the most control of the other females in the pack, often preventing them from breeding when they are in heat, and eating before them at a kill. The alpha male has much the same role, only for the males. He eats first, and is the only male that produces pups (most often, there are sometimes exceptions). The alpha pair is usually the only ones to mate. They do not necessarily lead the hunts the pack goes on. They are merely the most dominant wolves in the pack at the time. The omega is considered the opposite of the alphas. This is the wolf that often lives at the fringes of the pack, eating last and taking the brunt of the aggression. Though this may sound cruel, the omega plays a vital role in the survival of the pack. This wolf often acts as a peacemaker and mediator, allowing the more dominant wolves to take out their aggression on the omega rather than the remainder of the pack.
(I've been studying wolves for almost six years, so this is a brief touch on what I believe to be most accurate. Other views do exist out there, so do not take my word that this is 'the right one'. It is only what I have come to see.)

Colouration:

History:
Ranulfo was born a wolf and quickly moved up ranks. When he became the beta, the Aplha died. He took the spot as Alpha wolf and led his clan for a long time.
But one night, when he was very old his spirit left his body and it drifted to a dying colt. His spirit entered the colt and shielded him from all sickness. He then became a horse and started to live a happy life.
Sadly six years later, Ranulfo was sent off into the war and on Halloween he watched his master be murdered by the enemy. Ranulfo screamed with anger and started to change. His body got closer to the ground, his face shortened, his body got fluffy, corse fur, and fangs sprouted. He howled in anguish and fury and tackled the murderer to the ground and with a easy snap, broke the mans neck. After his anger subsided, he transformed back into a horse and trotted into the night.
What are the roles of alphas and omegas in a wolf pack?:
~Alpha~
The male and/or female who lead the pack.
The pack is led by the alpha male and/or female. The alpha male usually controls the activities of the other Wolves in the pack, but occasionally a very strong female who has usurped control from him.
When a pack alpha is deposed by the pack, which means forcefully removed form the pack, or becomes the victim of a fatal injury or illness, the pack may have only the remaining alpha for a time until another suitable mate is selected. Deposition may result in the death of the ousted member as a frenzy of violence, sort of like mob mentality, may lead the pack to chasing the deposed Wolf to exhaustion and then killing him or her.
Control of the males is generally the duty of the male alpha, and the females by the alpha female, although either leader may dominate the subordinates of either gender. Alpha Wolves maintain their rank by simple respect; which is granted by their ability to dominate other members of the pack in ritual combat. When one Wolf seeks to dominate another challenge is made and if the challenged Wolf does not submit a fight may result to determine which Wolf is superior. Repeatedly winning these contests results in a reputation within the pack, making the dominating Wolf the pack leader.
The leaders of an established pack retain the right to mate, not through title, but through the ability to keep other Wolves of their gender from copulating with others during the mating season. The alpha male usually accepts the strongest female to mate with; and this tends to be the same bitch year after year unless she is deposed. The alphas are the first Wolves to feed at the site of a pack kill.

~Omega~
The lowest ranking Wolf of the pack.
The Omega Wolf is the male or female at the bottom of the hierarchy. The omega Wolf is usually the last to feed at the site of a pack kill. The omega seems to be the scapegoat for the other Wolves and generally slinks and submits at the least act of aggression by others. When the alpha is in a particularly grouchy mood he may not allow the omega to feed, or constantly dominate him or her. The omega plays an important role in the pack by acting as a kind of social glue, allowing frustration to be vented without actual acts of war, which could threaten the pack structure, from breaking out. It is interesting to note that in packs that have been observed losing their omega, the entire pack has entered into a long period of mourning where the entire pack stops hunting and just lays around looking miserable. Omegas have been known to become stronger and literally fight their way back up the ranks to take a place among the subordinates; this can happen if they repeated win challenge against other Wolves.

He's the perfect one! Thank you for this grand opportunity. The shadow is his wolf spirit.

He's SO handsome. A bit of minor note:

Alphas and Omegas, as we know them, only really occur in transient wolf packs: a normal wolf pack is actually made up of the breeding pair (the parents), their past pups, and the newest litter.

XD Sorry, this is just something I've learned.

Thank you, Seren! :D

Yes, I was aware of this fact. I just decided to go for something a little more obvious for other CS members, as not all of them may know that. XD

Show Name: At Odin's Table
Barn Name:Freki (Freki was one of the wolves said to accompany Odin. The other Being Geri -and if this boy is won by me- his offspring/mate will carry on Geri's namesake. ^^)
Age:4
Gender: Stallion
Breed: Andalusian
Colouration: Rose Dappled Grey (Bay base coat) with Blaze and two Half-cannons
Personality:Freki is very headstrong and independent. He does as he wishes, and tests all boundaries placed before him. He submits to none, save his rider. While Freki enjoys the company of others, he doesn't take kindly to his 'dominance', per se, to be threatened. He is quick to correct those who step out of line. He is very much a ladies man, though he doesn't let them distract him from his duties or his training. After all, there is more to being a leader than being the boss. A leader has to set examples, and live up to the expectations he has for others.
History: When Freki was first born- not many cast an eye towards him. He was frail and underweight most of the time. The only kindness he was shown was by his mother. Though he was frail, and small, Freki was not without hope. His mother was an older brood mare-much older than many of the others at the stables. And as in many cases, the older the parent-the wiser the offspring. Freki was very intelligent. his mother passed only a few mere months after his birth. But he knew she loved him,and was watching over him. And with that knowledge, and so many other things his mother taught him- he knew he would rise to greatness. He grew quickly- often playing tricks on his handlers or other colts. He grew much quicker than the other colts did- so their times of teasing and picking on him died rather quickly. And with their taunting's death, his rank as a leader was born. his trickster attitude turned feisty rapidly, and up to date he is still a hand full for his handlers, waiting for any one bold enough to test his so called 'alpha' status.
What are the roles of alphas and omegas in a wolf pack?:
Wellll, here's a bit of a tricky question, isn't it? heh. In many role plays , stories, and other fictional creations- wolf packs are complex and have various different ranks, with various purposes.
In reality, wolf packs are simple (sort of ) and muchless fabricated.

According to Wolfwebs
:"

The pack, the basic unit of wolf social life, is usually a family group. It is made up of animals related to each other by blood and family ties of affection and mutual aid.

The core of a pack is a mated pair of wolves - an adult male and female that have bred and produced young.

The other members of the pack are their offspring: young wolves ranging in age from pups to two and three-year-olds.

Pack sizes vary, most packs have 6 or 7 members, although some may include as many as 15 wolves. The size depends on many variables including the current numbers of the wolf population, the abundance of food, and social factors within the wolf pack.

Within each pack is an elaborate hierarchy. It may consist of a single breeding pair, the Alpha male and female, a lower group consisting of non-breeding adults, each with its own ranking, a group of outcasts, and a group of immature wolves on their way up. Some of the younger wolves of the pack may leave to find vacant territory and a mate.

Individual wolves in a pack play different roles in relation to the others in the group. The parent wolves are the leaders of the pack - the alpha male and alpha female. (Alpha is the first letter in the Greek alphabet.)
The alpha male and female are the oldest members of the pack and the ones with the most experience in hunting, defending territory, and other important activities.

The other pack members respect their positions and follow their leadership in almost all things, The alpha wolves are usually the ones to make decisions for the pack when the group should go out to hunt or move from one place to another.

The other Pack members all have positions in the hierarchy inferior to those of the alpha male and female. The young adult wolves, who are the grown-up offspring of the alpha pair, have their own special roles under the leadership or their parents. Some of them me able to "boss around," or dominate, their sisters and brothers because they have established themselves as superior in some way. This superiority might be physical-larger size or greater strength - but it can be based on personality Dominant wolves in the pack usually have more aggressive and forceful personalities than their relatives of the same age.

The juveniles and pups-wolves under two years old do not occupy permanent positions within the pack hierarchy. They all take orders from their parents and older brothers and sisters, but their relationships with each other change frequently. During their play and other activities, they are constantly testing one another to find out who will eventually be "top wolf" in their age group."

And according to Yellowstone Wolf tracker ,"The omega wolf is one or more wolves, male or female, that occupy the lowest position in the pack hierarchy. This wolf often plays the role of the scapegoat. They can be male or female wolves, at least yearlings and often older, as pups do not feel the pressures of the hierarchy until they are older.

Traditionally, there are alpha, beta, and omega wolves. The alphas are at the top, betas in the middle, and omegas at the bottom of the pecking order. The rest of the pack picks on omega(s). The omega role is more pronounced in captive packs where that individual can not disperse and is forced to live with the pack."

Omegas , while the pack's scapegoat, actual helps the pack relieve tension, and hold an important role. Though, more oft' than not, Omegas will be pushed to being lone wolves.

(may add/edit later)

Other: will do some art for him, he is beautiful! and the colors are so fantastic!

colored Sketch

On a side note, I LOVE his colors, they're my favorite! and, the 'Alpha' status actually fits the colors well, with Purple being a royal color. ^^
