Vinca's Name: Vitani
Story:
Snow flakes drifted to the cold, hard ground. Little Vitani stuck her head out of the den at the first sign of light. She leaped from the den, into the snow that surrounded it. Her twin sister Anari followed more cautiously.
"Oh c'mon!" Vitani said, laughing. "Come play with me!" She begged, looking at her sister as she crouched low to the ground, ready to pounce.
"Anari, go play with your sister." Their mother told her gently as she made her way out of the den as well. "It's alright." She assured her.
Anari finally stepped out of the den and walked up to her sister. "What are we playing?" She asked.
"Let's play tag!" Vitani exclaimed.
"No!" Anari said. "You know I'm slower than you." She said.
"Fine, then we'll play hide 'n go seek!"
"Okay." Anari agreed, reluctantly. "I'll count first."
As soon as Anari shut her eyes Vitani raced off to find a hiding place. Behind a rock? Nah too obvious. She thought. In a tree? Nope. Too easy. Her eyes widened as she found the perfect hiding place. She raced towards the cave at full speed, and slid into the narrow opening. Perfect. She though smugly.
"12...13...14...15. Ready or not, here I come, Vitani!!" Anari yelled as she started running, finally starting to enjoy herself. She laughed as she realized that she could just follow her sister's foot prints. She ran in her sister's path until she got to the cave. She stuck her nose into the opening. "Gotcha!" She exclaimed.
"HEY! No fair!!" Vitani said.
"Is too fair!"
"Nuh uh!" Vitani pounced on her sister. The rolled around in the snow play fighting.
"Okay, okay, you win!!" Anari exclaimed as Vitani chewed on her ear. They both got up, laughing. The started to make their way back home to see their mother, but little did they know...They wouldn't have a mother to return to. As they entered the clearing, the spell of copper clogged their noses. The smiled faded from their faces as they saw the crimson stained blood trsil that led East, away from their safe haven. Anari was trembling with fear, and Vitani was trembling with anger.
"We have to find her." Vitani said slowly, each word like a knife in the fridgid air.
"We can't leave!" Anari exclaimed as tears fell from her misty eyes.
"We are leaving." Vitani said, her eyes throwing daggers at her sister.
They made their way East, following the blood trail. It led them to a castle, falling apart with age. It was quiet. It was deathly quiet. The two sisters moved through the old castle, searching desperately for their captured mother. Then they heard it. The screaming. It was horrible. It was pain, agony, fear, and anger crushed into one scream. It sent shivers down the identical sisters backs. They knew who was screaming. They could feel it in their gut. Vitani then shot forward and Anari followed, their hearts galloping in their throats as they tried to find the source of the screaming. Then they burst into a room.
There was blood splattered everywhere. On the walls, on the floor and even on the ceiling. The Anari was rigid with shock and passed out in absolute fear. Their mother was in the room, five cats surrounding her. They had sharp sticks that could poke a hole in a cow's hide. They were jabbing their mother with it and she was just laying there, nearly dead. "Mother!" The Vitani screamed in agony and anger. All five of the cats whipped around, their faces drenched in their own blood and their victim's. Anari aroused and stood up, still wobbly on her legs. "Go!" Their mother suddenly screamed. "You can't get away once they get you! Go! I will always love you!" Their mother screamed, on the brink of insanity.
Vitani whimpered before running, catching a glimpse of the cats mauling their mother to her final breathe. They would cherish the last few words their mother said for the rest of their lives.
