extra story/writing:
In the queendom of Gestaln, the birth of the next in line was always celebrated with much joy. The royalty celebrated the upcoming birth by giving the realm days of festival, where everyone did not have to worry for food until the heir was born. Tradesmen could harp about their wares as people came from the farthest reaches of the nation to participate in the bounty and bustle. When the inns filled, the castle itself opened up its barracks for the poor and in need. Parades and concerts for the fertility of land and people filled the streets. For something that happened once every few decades, it was a big deal. Much of the lower classes might not see it for generations.
The third night of festivities was filled with baited breath, for the castle announced the heir was to be born that night. The night was filled with abnormal amounts of cheer and light, heralded by a full moon. But even the inside of the castle could notice the sudden fading of noise and jubilation, especially those near the queen.
The moon was gone, the exact second the heir was born. The young child's eyes seemed to shine in the dim torchlight, and a guard made the frightened connection that the moon suddenly disappeared. Of course, the queen was terrified of this, and ordered a midwife to bring the nearest clean cloth. It took the poor woman a minute, but the moment the blindfold was put over the child's eyes, the moon was back.
The child was cursed, it was plain to see. Our of fear, the queen begged to have the peasantry be shown the child in the morning, so they do not think the moon's disappearance was linked to the strange eyes of her child. And, with the sun up, the moon won't disappear, so the "curse" would no be in effect. But every night, the queen demanded the child's eyes be blindfolded, in fear for what could happen again...
