as a bit of context, melissa is from the year 1532, working as a tailor for the king in england.
another kalon, from 2021, timetraveled there and melissa accidentally transported herself to
the future out of curiosity. astrid volunteered to become her mentor and teaches her how to
live normally in modern times.
my day doesnt start until seven pm. i wake up. i have thirty minutes to stay in bed and check my phone.
no new messages, like usual. so i spend the other 29 and half minutes playing a silly game. it helps me turn off my brain.
i don't have to think about how lonely i am.
seven thirty. i get out of bed. i have ten minutes to shower, six minutes to pick out the outfit for the day. fourteen minutes to have breakfast and my morn- evening coffee.
eight pm. i head off to work. i pass a small family restaurant on the street. the owner and her wife are just closing - they look so happy and in love. i turn my head away.
eight forty-five. i arrive at the bar. the name: thirteen. unlucky. i've been working here for ... way too long. everyone's seen me around - but i doubt any of them know my name. my boss compliments my outfit - she always does, even when i know full well i look like a dumpster fire. she's too nice. i hate her.
nine pm. the bar opens. not many guests yet, most people don't come to the bar until eleven. there are two men, wearing suits in the corner. they probably just got off work and they are not ready to go home to their wives. i see them hold hands under the table. how tragic.
eleven ten. we're having a slow day. boss says it's because there's a big party with an important guests in the other bar. i don't mind. i hate when drunkards try to smalltalk me. hate it even more when they try to flirt. the first group of guests arrive, they are teens. they don't look eighteen but the guard lets them in anyway. he's too soft. he hears one whiny 'pretty please' and opens the door for anyone. just the usual.
one pm. a man arrives. alone. he beelines to the bar and sits down. he doesn't wave to me, he doesn't want to order yet. he's just looking. he's very handsome. i feel weird so i switch places with the other guy.
two twenty-five. he's still sitting on the same stool, now nursing a cocktail in his hands. i made it for him. he's still looking. i made the mistake and smiled at him and he took it as an invitation to talk to me.
two fifty-four. we've been talking. boss has come out from the back to scold me three times already. but i don't want to talk to anyone else. i want to pay attention to him only. and he wants to pay attention to me only.
five. my shift has ended. he had to leave around half past three but he promised he'd be back. ill wait for him in front of the bar. it's started raining.
five forty. i'm still standing. still waiting.
six ten. i'm cold. but hopeful.
thirteen. he's here.
