username: fishi.
name: rosebud norris, commonly called rosea or RB (previously called harry)
gender & sexuality: trans female (mtf), bisexual.
time they persevered: rosebud was born a male. she didn't realize this until she was seven years old, and childhood was extremely awkward for her. her parents didn't suspect a thing, and she went through second grade to fifth grade until she summed up enough courage to tell one of her closest friends.
"hey, blue?" she asked, nervous.
"yeah harry? what's up?"
"well, I have something I- I wanted to tell you." rosea swallowed, her throat dry.
"ok, so spit it out," blue waited impatiently.
"well, I've been thinking about this, from, like, second grade, actually." she let out a strained laugh, not sure if she should go through with this.
"okayy, harry, you're starting to lose me here, what have you been thinking about?"
"well.. I think I'm a girl."
"what?" blue said, out of sheer confusion, "you do, y'know, have one of these," he looked down at his legs quickly, turning red, "right?"
"um, yeah, I do. but you know when you have a dream that you are an adult or a girl or something? I feel like that. like, I'm not in the correct body."
"I don't think I understand. but, uh, how does this change anything?" blue asked.
"well, I- I don't really know. I mean, I haven't told my parents yet, but surely there is some sort of surgery or something that can turn me into a girl, right?"
the conversation went on like that until the rest of recess, and from then on, blue was determined to help rosebud tell her parents.
blue and rosebud went through 5th, 6th, and 7th grade together, and they had established that blue would call 'harry' rosebud, and a she/her. two of rosebud's other friends knew, and on rosebud's fourteenth birthday, they all helped rosebud come out to her parents. "happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you!" they sang in a chorus. "happy biiirthdayy dear harry-" they had almost finished when rosebud interrupted them.
she raised her clammy hand and cleared her throat and declared, "actually, it's rosebud."
her parents stopped dead in their tracks, setting down the cake. "what are you talking about, harry?" her mother asked.
rosebud swallowed. this didn't go the way she thought it initially would. "uh, my name isn't harry anymore. I'd like you to call me rosebud."
her parents frowned. "isn't there a more.. i don't know,
manly name you could go with, like, michael?" her father asked.
rosebud wiped the sweat off of her forehead with her shirt, adrenaline coursing through her veins and making her legs shake. "well, no. because I'm a woman, not a man. my name is now rosebud, and i go by she/her. if you can't except that, then, then.." her father was stoned faced, and her mother's face was creased in a frown.
"then you should be gone by dinnertime. come back when you can accept that you are a male, not a female, you pathetic excuse for a child." her father exclaimed. her mother pleaded with her father, but he wouldn't budge. he was set.
rosebud spent the rest of her evening crying, packing her stuff up and preparing to leave. one of rosebud's three friends, sidney, had told her mom about rosebud and they agreed that she could stay in their guest room and they would figure something out.
this was the hardest thing rosebud had ever had to persevere. sidney's family had taken care of rosebud until she had enough money to be put on hormones. rosebud is now a happy kalon, living out her life in new york city as a photographer.
