"hearing. i can rely on it to keep me safe i end up passed out from my narcolepsy unexpectedly." teddy let out a soft laugh, "my wife tells me i have the ears of an elephant, i can pick up on things others normally miss. though it tends to get overwhelming in crowded areas, but thats fine as i tend to avoid them anyways."

Buttermilk Name: carousel
Prompt Day: 3
Prompt Response: Carousel nervously ran her fingers across her puffy lips. “It is not an understatement to say that I would literally perish without my vision,” she blinked a few times after she spoke, almost like she was waiting for darkness to befall her line of sight. “I know for a fact that you saw me lose my balance earlier. I cannot put one foot in front of the other now, and I have twenty twenty vision.” Carousel watched as Adrienne began to carve Chumpkin’s nose. She was starting to have warm fuzzy feelings towards the oddly formed little guy. Maybe they were more alike than Carousel wanted to admit. Both Carousel and the pumpkin had their quirks and imperfections. Carousel softy mumbled a thank you to Adrienne, watching as chunks of orange flesh fell to the ground.

Zelie seems to be led with the sense of touch above all else. In a perfect world she would be allowed to touch and feel everyone and everything. Not only does she enjoy exploring different textures and shapes, it’s also a meaningful way in her eyes to show somehow you care. She is, of course, a hugger. If you’re around her for any given period of time, chances are you’ll get hugged at least once.

Prompt Response:

Jim smiled at Adrienne as he watched her carve the eyes to his pumpkin.

"Oh! This is actually a very easy question for me to answer. I like to consider myself as an artist of sorts due to the whole pumpkin carving hobby. Due to that fact, I want to say first off the toss up is between sight and touch. Sight because of the obvious fact that you aren't able to actually see your work. But touch because it's important to understand how hard you press. The perception is quite important."

Jim nodded his head as he explained his reasoning.

"But honestly? I feel like if I lost my eye sight right now, I have seen enough in my life to be able to imagine something well enough to be able to capture it on whatever I'm working on. Whether that be a canvas or a cute little pumpkin like Blue Gene you're working on. I feel like if you rely enough on someone to give you a clear image of something beautiful, you'll be able to create something just as beautifule even without being able to see. But I fully believe you need to feel your environment around you. To take it all in and let your art tool flow. You need to truly understand it, and you can only do so if you use it more and more. I feel like I've gotten such an understanding with my carving tool that I could carve any pumpkin with ease without being able to see. Since I have developed that knowledge and understanding, that's why I feel like touch is the most important!" [274]

”I think I favour my eyes the most. Without my eyes, my world would be a lot darker, figuratively and literally. I love seeing the smiles on faces. I rely on my eyes to know what’s happening around me. It helps me to decipher body languages of others and how other people are feeling. I’d be lost without them.”

Buttercup let out a loud laugh. “Which sense do I favor the most, huh? Interesting question.” She brushes her hand through her hair as if to ponder the question.
“I think I favor taste. But smell is either same place, or a very, VERYclose second.” She smirks at Adrienne.
“See, without taste, I could not enjoy my coffee. Not enjoying my coffee is a setup for a bad day. While yes, I do drink a cup for the ‘energy boost’ or to wake up, as most call it, that doesn’t mean I don’t want to enjoy it. I don’t chug that first precious cup of coffee in the wee hours. That’s a huge thing for me in the mornings. Enjoying a cup of coffee and who the heck can do that without taste? And food. How can you eat food and be okay with the thought of it tasting like air?”

Bliss’s tongue stuck out in concentration as she attempted to carve out a little face in Pinkalicious’ lovely pink exterior. She heard Adrienne’s question faintly and snapped back to her senses when she heard her mention her sense of smell.
“You’re so right!” Bliss agreed. “Except it’s totally because of perfumes. Have you ever just like, smelled someone’s perfume and done a double take?? Exactly! It’s incredible how much of an impact the way someone smells has. I fall in love with random strangers that have a brilliant cologne clinging to them.” She scratches her head when she realises she’s actually pretty lost on what to do from there. She had no idea what the little pumpkin was missing.

“Oh my goodness! Duh!” Bliss started digging through her bag, reaching to the very bottom to grab out a small bottle of body mist. She sprayed it all over her precious little pumpkin, sitting back and breathing in the smell.

“Notes like vanilla, sandalwood, lavender, sugar… goodness I’m so obsessed. Now this cute little thing smells just as sweet as me!! We are like… sooo twinning.”

Adrienne's Pumpkin Patch - Day 3 Closed!

Postby Cactologist » Sat Sep 28, 2024 12:30 am

Thank you to all who participated in Day Three. Everyone got six Cranberries for their efforts. Here's what Adrienne had to say:

To BadgerBuddies:
Adrienne wrote:It brings me much joy to hear you describe your love for the oddities in life! Art in all its forms is truly such a wonder, and although I’m not as huge of a fan as you, I have a great respect for artists who can express themselves so beautifully!

To ♔Voltaire♔:
Adrienne wrote:Ah, there is a beauty in details, isn’t there? I’m sure your clients can appreciate your attention to the small things, because at the end of the day, small things can make a big difference. You certainly have a way with words, too! Have you ever thought about writing down your thoughts?

To Black.Wings:
Adrienne wrote:Thistle, you’re a hoot! I never thought to smell the dirt, but we truly are blessed to have such a variety of smells that we overlook! And yes, this book it quite good! I never knew what sci-fi was before, but thanks to your kindness, I may have just become a fan! Oh! Before you go, I can’t thank you enough for your kindness, first with the book and now with the donut, but perhaps you would like this bolete mushroom? It’s so unique, and reminds me of fall! Maybe just don’t smell it

To paopu:
Adrienne wrote:Wow, I feel like I am too quick to forget about the importance of touch! We all need touch, and it really is very powerful... now you’ve got me thinking, too, Caspian!

To strawberrymwilk:
Adrienne wrote:Teddy, that sounds like a super power! With good ears, I’m sure you could pick up on so many things others don’t, for better or for worse! Also you mentioned your narcolepsy, isn’t it fascinating how sound is the one sense that gets through while we’re sleeping? Thank you for making me think!

To case:
Adrienne wrote:You know, I’m regularly inspired by your honesty. We all have struggles, but you embrace them. They do make us who we are. I, too, am far from graceful, and oh so thankful that we don’t have to rely on just one of our senses!

To sprig:
Adrienne wrote:Well, Zelie, fortunately for you, I’m a hugger, too! Touch is such a literal point of connection, and it’s so very necessary! Also, I can respect your affinity for feeling the world around you. Sometimes, a texture simply looks too good not to touch! Fortunately for me, these pumpkin guts are not a texture I have a problem with!

To Joke’s On You:
Adrienne wrote:Jim, you’re so right! I think I must take touch for granted, because without it, our functionality as creatives would be so limited! And feeling, too, is really so nuanced when it comes to our nervous system. It takes a lot to say you could give up something as important as sight, but I can see the artist in you, recognizing that there’s more to art than what can be seen!

To DarkestWerewolf:
Adrienne wrote:Truly, truly! Our worlds would be so physically and metaphorically dark without being able to see others’ smiles. I didn’t consider how hard it would be, having grown up with sight, to adjust to communicating with others without it. Thank you for making me think!

To certified:
Adrienne wrote:Wow, Buttercup, you’re the first to say taste, but what an answer it is! We really couldn’t enjoy any food without taste, and think about all the joy we would be missing out on! Yes, I think it would be quite hard to go without taste, too.

To bluex:
Adrienne wrote:Bliss, I love your perspective on things! Smell truly tells us so much about others, even subconsciously! And isn’t it so precious how people adopt a “signature scent”? Now you and Pinkie can have the same one, too!

Day Four - Open!

Eyes, nose... It needs a mouth! Now it's really going to be expressive!
You've shared a few really bold stories already, but I need some real inspiration while I'm carving this one!
Do you normally keep your feelings to yourself or let them out? Ooo, either way, tell me about a time you nearly exploded with emotion!

Day 4 Prompt: When has your Buttermilk experienced a strong emotion?
No word maximum or minimum, but remember, quality over quantity.

Note: Day 4's prompt does not require completion of previous ones. Adrienne has plenty of pumpkins for everyone!

Ever since she was small, Zelie seemed to feel every emotion with her whole self. There were times when she felt an emotion so strongly it made her physically ill, keeping her home from school, events and parties. This reaction wasn't necessarily only for "bad" emotions either - She once was so happy to be apart of her best friend's birthday party that she cried hysterically for joy for an hour until her mom had to come and pick her up. As she got older, of course, she learned to deal with big emotions and feelings in a less out-bursty way. Clapping was one way she found to channel extreme excitement, glee, joy. When angry or sad, her best bet was to go for a walk. As someone who talked a lot and felt all the things, she had a lot of trouble growing up in a household of stoic people and it occasionally made her life more difficult than it ought to have been.
