Story:"Breathing was'nt the problem, opening my mouth was.
The fast, and meaty breath behind me was too much for my sense of smell, and I had lost feeling in my legs long ago.
I was used to long distance, but while being followed by a beast that is'nt supposed to exist was tearing my confidence to shreds.
I burst into a small clearing.
I looked at a large tree that stretched to the sky. Without a second thought I rushed up the tree. The African Sunset was beautiful, even if I only got a small glimpse. I gasped as I looked down. I was about 2 meters in the air and the hyena-cross-bear, was already half-way up.
I watched as the Nandi Bear started to growl, as the branches became thinner and thinner.
Thank you mom for the horrible food I joked to myself. I realized with a pang that I might never see my parents. If only our last encounter had'nt left to a fight I would have never been in this situation. I felt tears spring to my eyes, and sluggishly wind their way down my cheek, eventually falling off and hitting (With a stroke of luck) the Nandi Bear in the eye blinding it, as it stepped on a too thin branch.
It fell and to my surprise, my body lurched forward, and I desperately tried to give it a few seconds to find a foot hold.
I gritted my teeth as my arm was at dislocating point and finally the bear rested its paws on the bark.
While it was dazed, I used my Sixth sense and told it gently
I mean no harm; so don't do any to me. Even when it looked idiotic I could tell the creature was quite smart. It lowered itself to the ground and looked up expectingly.
I started to climb down. After the run my legs weren't awfully stable, and they kept buckling under the stress. I was now half way when to my horror, the branch I was standing on began to snap.
I grabbed onto the thicker part and I watched the branch fall down. I wondered what to do. If I try drop, most likely I'll land on the branch and it'll snap. I felt time running out and as I looked down, I notice the bear, the big brown eyes said
Let go.
I knew it was smart, but how could I let go. I tried to shift my arm to get a better grip, but because of the strain on my arm from saving the bear, my arm slipped. I cried out in pain and fear as I slipped off the branch.
This is the end... I will die from falling off a tree... not awfully heroic I thought and let a tear fall down my cheek. I closed my eyes and listen to the air whipping around me. All of a sudden I felt claws, catching me and soft velvet hair tickling my back . I opened my eyes. The same clearing was there, a gigantic Bear was holding me and I had fallen a few meters from a tree... WOW what a day!
As the bear put me on the ground I stood up (Which took me a while) and I did something I wanted to do for a long time.
I turned and hugged the gigantic bear and I felt it hug back. I looked at the sky. The stars twinkled and lit up with excitement, as I sat with the bear and we both held paws.
I stood up and started to walk in the direction of camp when I collapsed from exhaustion. My legs were too tired to take me home!
I wailed as a spike of pain made my stomach cramp. I had'nt had food for a LONG lime.
Suddenly paws sounded behind me, I sat up and smiled as the Nandi bear, picked me up gently and placed me on it's back.
As I rode home, I wondered what would happen if I burst into the camp site riding a brain eating, hyena hybrid bear, that should'nt exist... Well I guess they'll be surprised, my mom will have to stop my dad hitting the bear with a frying pan, and I will be yelling for them to stop.
Oh well.
Warning:
The Rake is a very Scary Criptid and could give you nightmares, looking him up is a bad idea for younger suiters
Desecration is advised. Suddenly my eyes snapped open.
It was still dark but by how hight the moon was it was about 10:00.
I looked around, it was different from the forest we had been in.
The trees had an aerie glow to them and as I felt the bark it seemed the bark 'curled'. I looked at Nandi who had noticed I had woken up.
Hello child... The beautiful voice drifted in my head,
Where are we? I asked. She suddenly tensed slightly, making me nervous, if something as terrifying as Nandi was scared then it meant something bad. She relaxed and kept walking
You are in a place known as the Encrypted Grove, a place where most cryptids come to stay... it is a very dangerous place for both of us. I may seem strong to you but there are many more much stronger than me She paused and searched the trees. She obviously saw something, because she started into a sprint.
I clung on and noticed small orbs floating everywhere. I guessed they were Willow-the-wisps, the things Mom had told her lead people to their destiny. I noticed that they followed us.
Nandi Growled and lept into the air. I glanced down to see a creature known as a Chupacabra, immediately I thought of mother.
When I get back I'll tell her of all the cryptids I saw, I looked forward and suddenly I saw all the trees and bushes were alive with creatures.
I only relaxed when Nandi slowed and looked ahead.
We have to be careful, apparently The Rake is here, She shivered as she finished.
Who is The Rake?, I asked
He is... well I don't know, everyone that has heard his whispers has died, I fell silent for a few minutes and cautiously asked
Is I likely we will meet him? the bear snorted strangely, I was going to ask if she was okay, when I realized she was laughing.
That is almost certain, if anyone was going to know a up-sider was here he would know. Before I could say anything else I saw a light.
Look the exit! Seems we won't be meeting Mr.Rake I smiled triumphantly
Is that so? The voice I heard was not Nandi's graceful melody, it crackled and snapped in my ears with malicious Terror.
I Stared ahead trying to see the creature, who spoke. I replied shakily
What do you want? the voice replied with
A sacrifice, one of you can't go out here... Now I could see the creature, It was strangely human with long fingers tipped with small claws, it had small nostrils and its head was slightly dog-like.
It scared me, but I stood up and said out loud "I will fight you!" The Rake looked surprised but satisfied, none of his prey ever stood up to him, well there's a first time for everything.
Suddenly it spoke "Well then pass Nandi, and if you try to help you both will die" For the first time she spoke in human language "Rake, this is not fair. She is only 7, she is young. I will fight you" She stood a chance, however thin it was, but little Koo would'nt last ten seconds. "Sorry Nandi, but she has forfeited her life for yours. Besides I would have caught up with her in a few moments." Koo looked at the two argue and started making a plan. She picked up a few strange looking rocks and placed them in her pouch, hoping they did something to the cryptid.
She glanced around, and noticed the Willow-the-wisps urging her on. This was her destiny, to extract the being that terrified and killed parents and kids. She touched the side of the bears fur. She stopped in mid sentence, "If I don't come back, tell my parents I have died and honorable death and... and," I chocked slightly as I finished "I love them".
With that Nandi promised she would and galloped off, getting far away as possible.
The Rake looked at me, a grin splitting the gray features, making him look even more terrifying.
He charged strait for my legs, but I side stepped so quickly I nearly fell backwards. I grabbed one of the stones and threw one as he passed me, hitting him on the back. To my amazement, it exploded on impact and injured him.
He hissed and in my ears the voice boomed
WHERE DID YOU FIND MAGMINTES?. I did'nt get a chance to say something because he launched himself into the air, as the claws came fast and furious.
The sequence was dodge, throw, repeat and it work effectively, but it would'nt be enough. I needed a killer blow to kill or stun him long enough for me to run.
I picked up my last Magminte, and as he charged I threw it so hard my arm popped. We both screamed and he dropped dead and I hissed in pain.
I looked at my desist enemy, and turned to look for Nandi.
I walked out and turned to see a single Willow-the-wisp dissipate.
The End.
