On Sale today! Limited time only 2.99 Teddy Bears!! I peered through the glass windows and saw the beautiful pink and blue bear that I had wanted for months. My eyes began to wander, and lit up seeing a huge pack of Haribo Gummi bears for one dollar!!
I ran home, planning everything out. I already had 29 dollars, so I could buy 5 teddy bears and 4 packs of gummi bears! Or 4 bears and 9 packs of gummi bears! I skipped down the street, eager to get home.
Once in my room, I opened my piggy bank, expecting cash to rain out like in my favorite music videos. Instead, a few rusty pennies clunked on my wooden floor. I couldn’t believe my eyes. 3 cents? I had to find a plan to make money, fast. Through my window, I saw a lemonade and cookie stand on the other side of the street. I was going to make a food stand. And I was going to put that puny lemonade stand out of business.
After planning things out, I decided to go to the state fair the next day and open a booth. I was so excited!!
The next day, I realized I hadn’t planned out or made any food to sell! I freaked out, my dreams crushed. I scrambled through the kitchen and found only ½ bag of chocolate chips, ice cream cones, rainbow sherbet, mac and cheese, and a pack of hot dogs. My spirits raised. I had the perfect idea. I turned on the stove and cooked the kraft mac and cheese, separating it into 6 different bowls and coloring it. Rainbow mac and cheese? Done. Though it looked anything but pleasing, I didn’t have any time to spare. I then boiled the hot dogs. It was indeed the grossest thing I had ever seen, but nothing a little rainbow sherbet couldn’t fix!!
I got to the fair and set up my lousy booth. My cardboard booth was nothing in comparison to the traveling restaurants. After waiting for an hour or two, my first customer finally came. She was hesitant at first, after all mac n’ cheese in a cone with a hot dog, a scoop of rainbow sherbet, and 5 chocolate chips didn’t sound appetizing. Reluctantly, she popped a dollar bill into my jar, along with a 50 cent tip. Already on a good start! To her surprise, the combination of cheese, meat, sherbet, and chocolate was delicious! My rainbow mac n’ cheese with hot dog and sherbet in a cone became a hit! By the end of the day, I had sold out, and had 58 dollars! I was shocked! I could get 10 bears and 8 packs of gummi bears! Or 5 teddy bears and 28 packs of gummi bears! My head was in the clouds. I walked to the corner store, excitement radiating from me. On the way, I passed an elderly kalon who was sitting alone under a tree.
I sat next to him and started a conversation with him. Apparently he had lost his job and had no family members to go to. I handed him my 58 dollars, wishing him the best of luck. When I got home, I felt the happier than if I bought those teddy bears. I felt something in my heart. I felt compassion. Besides, there was always tomorrow. I went to bed, feeling the happiest I’d been in, in years.
