Username: Matreats
Name: Coryn
Gender: Male
Age: 14 (I'm not sure how old PPS viscets are- I just assumed that they could be whatever age and they just stayed small their whole lives. Someone correct me if I'm wrong ^^;;)
Prompt: Expectations.
“What is wrong with you?”
The exclamation was harsh and the young viscet’s voice was full of shock. She and her two friends reeled away from Coryn in disgust, their faces twisted into scared expressions. Why were they afraid? Coryn was so confused; he hadn’t done anything wrong, but the three other viscets looked horrified. A twinge of sadness plucked at his heartstrings as the viscets turned tail and ran back across the meadow to their parents, yapping and tattling on the small male. The mother and father’s faces hardened immediately, and they turned their angry glares at Coryn, their intense gazes sparking a horrible feeling inside him.
Coryn bowed his head and flattened his small ears to his skull before backing away from the intimidating parents. At this point, everyone who had ever come to the park kept their children away from Coryn, and the only chance at socialization he would ever get was when people passing through would stop by. It was rare that he got to be with other viscets, and he had once again ruined it all. His wings drooped at his sides and his tail dragged on the ground as he retreated to a tall oak tree near the border of the meadow. With a few quick jumps he scaled the tree, and found a spot where he was concealed by the leaves and branches.
Coryn let out a defeated sigh as he leaned his head against the trunk. He had come here with the hope of meeting someone new, and possibly making a friend, but had instead driven them away yet again. What was he doing wrong? He practiced for hours upon end every day, trying to come up with a way to have a conversation with the other kids. He tried so hard, but every time it ended up the same way.
Why was making friends so hard?
The dark-furred viscet stayed in the tree for the remainder of the time, moping. He had thought of every single possible way he could have offended them, but nothing made sense. Maybe they were just weird. Yes, that had to be it. They were weird and got mad at him for no reason… just like every other viscet he had tried to talk to.
“Coryn!” Coryn’s mother’s voice startled him out of his thoughts, jolting him back into reality. Without hesitation, he lept out of the tree and ran towards his mother. He knew better than to keep her waiting, for any reason. “Dearest,” she drawled, a smile on her face as he came running up to her. “It’s time to leave. I trust you had a good time?”
“Yes mother.” He replied with the same thing as he always had, not daring to give an answer that might upset her. Malloria bent down slightly to allow Coryn to hop up on her back. Her son stumbled as she lifted off before he got a good grip on her fur, but he managed to steady himself as the two rose higher into the sky.
“Coryn, what’s wrong?” Malloria spoke up a couple minutes later, noticing that her son was unusually quiet. The sudden question made him jump, and he almost lost his footing. He grabbed a pawful of his mother’s pelt to prevent himself from falling off her back and dug his claws into it as panic sparked his adrenaline. “What are you doing?” She shouted irritably as his claws pricked her skin. “You’re going to muss up my fur!”
“Sorry! I’m sorry!” Coryn hauled himself back up between her fluttering wings as fast as he could as his mother grumbled about having to re-brush her pelt.
“It’s not a problem,” she said, forcing a nice tone. “Now tell me what happened. I know something did.” A small sigh escaped the little viscet at her words.
“The… other kids-” he started hesitantly, “they ran away again. I just told them a joke!” he added hurriedly. “The one about the dead rabbit, it’s your favorite one.”
“Oh sweetie.” Her voice oozed with pity as she dragged out the words. “If you told them that and they didn’t laugh, there’s something wrong with them, not you. Of course that one is the best, I made it up. Anybody with any sense of humor would find it absolutely hilarious.” She laughed at her own joke, her high-pitched cackling making Coryn’s ears twitch. Whatever the joke was, he didn’t get it.
-----
That night, after mother and son had returned home and eaten dinner, Coryn laid in his bed, staring at the wall. Despite his mother’s confirmations that he was “the most perfect, and could never do any wrong”, he was having a hard time believing it. It had taken a lot, but for the first time in his life, he was second guessing his mother. I just didn’t make sense. He had to have done something wrong for those girls to act that way. People just didn’t run away screaming for no reason.
Nothing made sense right now. Coryn had combed over everything he could have possibly done wrong, and he had come to the conclusion that it was the fault of the other viscets. But, still it didn’t feel like the right answer. There was no solution.
Well, there was one.
The small thought started creeping it’s way into Coryn’s mind, but he quickly pushed it away. No, there was no way that could be the answer to his dilemma... could it? Could it be possible that he himself was the problem? Not what he said, or how he acted, but who he really was- maybe he was just a bad person.
How could that be true? His mind immediately shot back an answer. Mother taught you everything. It was true, Malloria had raised him to be like her. His mother was the best influence he had ever had; she taught him how to act, how to speak, how to show others that he was important. It had never occurred to him that his mother could have been teaching him wrong.
Coryn didn’t want to believe it, but the longer he thought about it, the more sense it made. The kids’ reactions, the parent’s anger, the annoyance, the weird looks- suddenly it didn’t seem so odd anymore. Something about him and the way his mother had brought him up was severely wrong. Of course he had no idea what it was exactly, to him, Malloria’s way was all he had ever known, and the only way. His mother’s expectations for his behaviour were set high and strict. After all, he was her son, and therefore directly represented how talented and successful she was as a parent.
Coryn’s conflicting thoughts soon became too much for him to handle, and he whined quietly at his clashing feelings. He couldn’t take this now- he couldn’t understand. It was all so confusing, and he didn’t know what to think or how to feel. He just wanted it to be fixed so he didn’t have to worry about it anymore, but he knew that would never happen. Sooner or later he would have to make a decision. He would have to choose what he wanted to be, and how others saw him.
He wanted to change. He wanted to have friends and to be able to talk to other kids his age without them running away. He yearned to feel wanted. The only thing that was holding him back was his mother.
What would she think of this? What would she think of him if he told her how he was feeling? He knew for certain that she would be furious, after all, he would be questioning her beliefs, and that was unacceptable. No, he couldn’t tell her. It would all go wrong if he did. He would just have to keep it secret until he was sure his mother could handle it.
Coryn let go of the subject and shifted in his bed, closing his eyes as a cool night breeze wafted in through his open window. He didn’t want to think about his mother right now- he was worn out from the day and just wanted to sleep. He would decide what he would do.
Sometime.
Extras: None
Personality
To put it simply, Coryn is naive. He was raised under his selfish mother, and assumes that everyone else is the same. He of course doesn’t see anything wrong with it, seeing as he grew up with it and it is normal for him. He follows in his mother’s example, taking on several of her personality traits and bad morals. Being still fairly young, he doesn’t know that he’s doing anything wrong. He doesn’t understand completely how things in the real world work, and is constantly confused by the behaviour of other viscets, as it is so different from what he knows.
He has trouble communicating with others, and struggles to express his feelings. He doesn’t get much affection or attention from either of his parents, and it makes it harder that the way he was raised makes it impossible to talk to anyone without driving them away. He doesn’t have an outlet or someone to talk with to get rid of his pent up thoughts.
Deep down, Coryn just wants to do what’s right. He has a sweet heart and good intentions, but it always comes off badly to others. He is deeply conflicted, and even at such a young age, is questioning his mother and her morals.
Why I want this Viscet:
Not only do I love his design, but to me, he represents the constant war that is waging between parents and the world. There is a battle between morals and beliefs that has never stopped, and the rising generation is always caught in the middle of it. Coryn represents the struggle to find what is truly right, and what to believe. Finding what you believe in is so difficult these days, with all the differing ideas and morals, and I’ve experienced it first hand. Deep down, we all want peace and happiness, but some just go about it in the wrong way. It’s hard to stand your ground when your opinion is unpopular and hated, especially when you have someone close to you who is constantly pressuring you and pushing you to become like them. In the end, it’s up to you to decide what and who you want to be, no matter what anyone around you says.

i'm so sorry about the wait on this kiddo, honestly. >-< i should have been able to judge it sooner;; but thank you so much to those of you who tried out!
i'll go ahead and review my top four briefly.
Prophecy
You did very well with your form! Although it's not quite as long as the others, I liked the short format you used to compose the story and I really liked the direction you took with it. It's too bad you didn't get to finish! I really wanted to see more. ;u;
ShimmerSolarPets
Your form was fantastic! You provided just about the most accurate representation of Malloria out of the bunch (no doubt from stalking her profile LOL) and I really loved where you went with it -- the fact that he actually left Keira and detached himself from her surprised me a little bit. I suppose my only suggestion would be that I wanted to see more of their dynamic so I would feel more empathetic for them both when he left, but nonetheless you put together a solid story and an incredibly fleshed out personality.
juice box.
HHHHHHH how i wish you finished;; i absolutely LOVED that you used shafre in your story! It was honestly what I wanted to see the most out of these entries so to see that you did it made me so excited. I think that if you'd gone a bit further to show more of him,
I would have been reading it with bated breath. Before i stop gushing about Shafre being in it i just wanted to add you actually portrayed him excellently despite how i provided a rather shoddy description of him;; so fantastic job there!
Matreats
Your form was a great read! TBH your portrayal of Malloria was also great and I love the pure narcissism she displayed there in the short time she was in the story and Coryn was such a nice level of naive that I found myself relating to him a bit.
i'm kind of sad that i have to pick only one winner sobs
ultimately, my winner is going to be ShimmerSolarPets! had juice box.'s form been a little bit longer / had a little more content, i think that it would have been an extremely difficult decision for me ;w; i just loved both of y'alls characters so much wheeze
congratulations and thanks so much for expressing such an interest and paying such close attention to detail with the characters!
I can't wait to see what you do with them (: So sorry for the long wait!
please stop asking me to give you my viscets. thank you!

Yes, that's right, I'm a shameless Malloria stalker
Ahh, thank you so much for Karako! I totally loved creating him and envisioning him in my mind. There were so many things I actually wanted to add in my form, like a conversation with Shafre and more about Karako's journey, but I didn't have the time due to a lot of stuff being piled up on me XD Thank you so much for the advice about my form!
Once again, thank you so, so much for Karako!! Also, I'd just like to say that all those forms mentioned are really awesome, and I wish you all luck on other competitions <3
