Purples and skies mingled with each other in the sky, whirling about one another, fighting for dominance in the sun's brilliant light. The day had just begun, shown by the sun that began to emerge from behind its blanket known as the horizon. As it began to grow in the sky, the den of the Ancients was brightened, the light almost blinding to those inside. With a quiet groan, Aura found herself sitting up, looking about the den. Then, she was startled by the youthful voice of a kit before her.

"Hi Aura!" Lyra chirped, watching as Aura rose to her paws, the tips of her fur risen from the startling and sudden presence of the kit.

"Oh stars, Lyra. You can't be doing that to us old cats." Aura groaned out as she began to stretch. Then, her black orbs focused on the kit, seeming to notice something within. "What's wrong?"

"Well... Baby never came home last night. She was supposed to show me how to climb trees super fast." Lyra explained. "I thought... you might be able to get a bird-eyes view?"

Aura blinked at Lyra. "What do you mean by that?"

"I saw you. And unless you want me telling the whole clan, you're gonna go help Baby!" Lyra huffed sassily, and Aura gasped.

"You were not meant to see that! It's just a little hobby of mine... but of course, for a clanmate in need, I'll do it. Just keep your tongue in your mouth." Aura retorted, gently batting at the kits head with the affection of a mother. "Now go on."

"Thanks Aura!" Lyra bowed her head in respect, as was tradition for anyone speaking to an Ancient, before trotting out of the den happily. With a sigh, Aura herself exited the den, and made her way out of the camp, slowly sauntering along the clan's river. She needed to get a good distance away from the camp - far enough away to where they wouldn't notice something was amiss.

Aura eventually reached a clearing she thought was satisfactory. It was embraced by tall trees that coated the ground in deep shadows - even the keenest of eyes wouldn't see this spot. And with a deep breath, Aura closed her eyes, and began to focus.

Whoosh... whoosh... whoosh!

Suddenly, the fluffy things behind her that were once tails began to spiral rapidly. They gracefully dodged one another, and soon, Aura was hovering off the ground. The tails only grew in speed, and with a quiet breath, Aura quickly propelled herself into the air. Surely a round, pink cat would be easy to spot from above. And soon, she found herself high in the sky, with a view of every inch of the Heart of Decay's forest. With her newfound flying talent, she also had a keen eye - and from above, she wasn't seeing Baby yet.

A concerning notion.

Aura quickly moved forward, deciding to survey more of the forest. However, her new flight had it's quirks, and without noticing, she had begun to soar higher and higher. And eventually, the furs on her back tickled against a cloud. She quickly moved to the side without questioning it, then all of a sudden, the clouds broke, and before Aura sat two figures.

THE GODDESSES.

One was an ethereal shade of black and silver, with purple eyes and horns that could entrance even the most resilient of cats. The other was a remarkable red and blue cat, who had a blue thread levitating in the air before her. Aura couldn't help but hold her breath and observe. None of the cats had ever seen the Goddesses in their element of work. They had spoke of the two with baited breath and whispers of theories, but nothing concrete. And so, with wide black eyes, she observed.

"Any lost souls today, Nona?" One began, padding up next to her lover.

"Not yet. The souls will come, Gala. We must give them time to realize they need us." Nona said with a reassuring smile. "Besides, we have enough to worry about. Like what Baby is up to."

"Oh no, not her again." Gala groaned dreadfully, gently pressing her nose against Nona's temple. "She is a paw full."

The mention of Baby made Aura gasp, which drew the attention of both Goddesses who sat peacefully upon their cloud. They looked back at her in sheer horror, then their fear ceased when they saw who it was.

"Aura! I..." Nona began.

"You were not meant to see this!" Gala interrupted. "What are you doing up here?"

"Looking for Baby?" Aura remarked, her black orbs locked on the twinkling blue thread. Gala quickly stepped to the side, blocking it from her view - Aura was not meant to see any of the Goddesses abilities.

The fact she was flying didn't seem to surprise the Goddesses, and with a soft sigh, Nona moved forward, raising her paw up and pressing it between Aura's eyes.

"That way." A voice echoed in Aura's head, and suddenly she descended, as though she was on auto pilot.

"What did you just do to her?" Gala asked, watching as Aura swiftly left the clouds, returning to the Earth.

"Well, my paths don't only lead to the Heart of Decay." Nona shrugged. "But how did she fly so far up?"

"I don't think she realized how high up she was until she saw us."

Aura's eyes were wide, and her paws flailed as she grew closer to the ground. Eventually, she landed, but it was far from graceful. She tumbled over her paws, and soon, found herself drenched from a puddle she fell in. With a groan of pain, she rose to her paws again, looking around. Then, it appeared - the pink ball of fluff she had been searching for. But she had what appeared to be... a bucket full of water in her maw.

A prank was on the horizon. But little did Aura know - it was for her.

"AURA! You were not meant to see this... yet..." Baby mumbled the last part, quickly stepping back from Aura. "This is nothing to worry about! How about you just uh... hurry back to camp and pretend you didn't see me?"

"I'm okay with that..."

But Baby didn't know that wasn't the only thing she'd pretend she didn't see that day. She saw the Goddesses - first hand, and spoke to them... that was an honor in of itself. What other cat in the Heart of Decay could say they did that?

Aurora was originally a beloved permaqueen of a now long forgotten clan. When she first perished via defending the kits in her care, she was not the first cat to die. In fact, she was greeted by a cat who told her that she was not yet meant to see this place, it had not been her time to die, though she did so with honor. However instead of the starry hunting grounds we know today, there was simply nothingness. It's said that the next cat to join them was a kit, but the empty landscape of the stars only frightened them. Aurora noticed this pattern with any cats, especially kits, that may have joined the stars. A story has been told for generations in the clans of how she decided the kits still deserved a nice, welcoming home.

Cats believe she gathered the stars in her paws and shaped them together to form what is now know as the main camp and first stretch of Starclan. Mortal cats believe that when she took this duty into her paws, that she was given a larger godly form. Her multiple tails are believed to represent the three kits that she died to protect, and that carrying their memory with her encourages her as she strives to do good. It is also said that her scars were not originally in the star-like shapes they are now, and that they represent how she "made the stars", or rather to show her importance in being the cat to form the first part of Starclan.

She's considered a god among the ancestor cats and is said to represent familial bonds and protect kits. It is believed that she often keeps watch over new litters, and that she personally is the cat that comes to welcome kits and young apprentices into Starclan in hopes that they won't be alone and scared. "You were not meant to see this, not yet." She tells them for their time has come too soon just like her own, but vows to be by their side so that they are not afraid like she was, if fate has to lead them to her grounds anyway.

Though the clans know her by name, often calling her Goddess Aurora, she is most commonly referred to as "The Mother". Sometimes called simply Goddess. Cats often use the Mother term when giving thanks to her, believing that she may bless families with safety and bring them good luck.

Though she is known for being caring, it is her self appointed duty to protect all cats in her care. Don't mistake Aurora's kindness for weakness. She is known to be one of if not the fiercest cat in all of Starclan when it comes to keeping others safe. Not a pushover either, though she is patient she will not tolerate disrespect. She may have died a permaqueen, but make no mistake, she is still a warrior.

AUGHH this entry was such a unique and captivating read. my main hope with this prompt was that i'd see some really interesting and unique situations to spark the “you were not meant to see this” line, and wowww you nailed it. i found myself feeling oddly protective of lil yascha, and the ending absolutely killed me. you write conflict and emotion sooo well. while i decided to limit myself to 1 RU, i really wanted to give you a helping hand in making yascha real, so i hope the maximum number of HMs i'm allowed to provide suffices. <3

you made judging this competition SO DIFFICULT /pos !! i absolutely loved calla's character and was obsessed with all of the symbolism used, especially the tarot card! the way you wrote her relationship with her siblings was sooo good. i was also blown away by the wip anamatic; your art is always exceptional but wow you absolutely killed this entry in particular. everything about it felt so dark and ominous and delicious, i adored it. i'm so excited to see where you take calla's character, and i hope i can do her justice with the RU! :D

i thought your entry was the coolest thing ever. the back and forth between the case report and the entries was such a fun idea, and i loved how each entry felt so different but also so cohesive. the jargon and redacted info was also SO cool, it really felt like i'd stumbled upon a classified report and i was so intruiged throughout the entire thing. i cannot even describe how cool i thought the overall concept was. i got SO excited when i highlighted the blacked out text and saw "chickensmoothie" and started connecting the dots about what was going on. i'm really looking forward to seeing what goes on with the witness in the future, and i trust you'll take excellent care of him <3 except for the subjecting him to manmade horrors beyong comprehension thing. but i can look past that part! again, congrats !! <3
