Name meaning:
Hina is the Hawaiian goddess of the moon and occasionally the sea.
In one legend, she is said to have lived under the sea, then surfaced to the
land and brought a coconut gourd containing the moon and the stars. She
represents many aspects of the feminine.
Personality:
Hina is the guardian of the moon, and seems very detached from
the normal world. She seems rather odd to most, as since nobody
threatens the sky, her duties are now rather small. Every dawn and dusk,
she goes to the sea and meditates on the beach, guiding the moon past the
horizon and into the sky, and lighting its way with the stars. In the morning,
she returns and guides the moon down between the trees. The beach lies in
the plains, were she makes her home, and so it's easy to see the horizons in
all directions. She knows that there's a guardian of the sun, but she has never
met them. All she's known of them is that they bring the sun into the sky.
Due to her requirement to move and watch over the moon, she doesn't need
sleep. This leads her to travel into the forests in the day to search for food,
gather herbs and flowers, and watch over the other Viscets. In her interactions
with them, she seems emotionless, although sometimes she'll laugh quietly, or
smile knowingly. Some Viscets believe she is a goddess, which isn't far from the
truth. Some think she's weird or scary, and try to avoid her. She tends to avoid
relationships or friendships with mortals, but she has slightly befriended a few.
She likes to try things mortal Viscets do for fun, and often enjoys them a lot.
Recently, she's become more open, and become slightly friendlier, in a kind of
'wouldn't you like to know' way.
She has innate magic, which she often likes using through spells and
meditation. She likes the control of rituals, potions and incantations, rather
than the wilder 'thought-magic' used by those with specific magic powers, such as
pyrokinesis. In a lot of her magic, she uses the moon and stars, and herself as the
power behind it. She usually uses it to hone her skill, so she usually just makes prey
more plentiful in the forests, or gives out good luck, or just changes the weather.
She also sometimes uses it to give herself temporary flight or wilder magic to play
with it a little bit.
Hina loves the water, often spending a lot of her time swimming. She enjoys the way
it reflects the moon and stars, and it feels to her like she's bathing in the light of
the moon. She lives by the ocean, and likes to swim out far and see the coral reefs
just outside of where Viscets usually swim. She often watches the creatures of the sea.
Once, she lived under the water, but when she matured she left it to begin her duties
as guardian of the night sky. She can manipulate reflections in the water, and to a
certain extent control it, but only at night and when there's a water source nearby.
She usually uses it to make the clouds disappear, so she can clearly see the sky.
Notes
Her scent smells very familiar, yet mysterious. It smells like home, but also
something strange and unearthly, with a tinge of saltwater.
When she's dreaming or meditating, the moon on her shoulder glows brightly.
Her tongue is dark blue, with white sparkles like stars dotting its surface.
If her meditation is interrupted, her eyes temporarily glow white, often scaring
whoever interrupted.
She sleeps on the new moon.Song:
