The tragedy of love is always the questions left unanswered. The great 'if only' that haunts and scares lovers scorned by fates woven in hearts but not stars. A burn that consumes one with indescribable agony for all the missed chances and whispers stolen, never to be uttered in passion.
For some, rekindling their love is possible but for others there is nothing but tear soaked ashes smeared in love's hearth. Emptiness sours the heart, blackening it with bitter emotion, consuming all hope and leaving nothing but misery. Such a woeful fate to claim, and how sadly did it befall the poor Kane who starved so pitifully for the affections of one man.
Their story began during Kane's second year of middle school. A talented young artist worthy of admiration, yet he felt his existence void of purpose. With the absence of his busy parents and his lack of friends there was no one to notice him, and a shroud of loneliness often blanketed him. It wasn't until he encountered the new assistant teacher that he felt something stirring in his chest.
Eos was beautiful in a way Kane couldn't describe, the kind of beauty that stole the words off his tongue. He was high school aged and though the teachers often treated him childishly due to his deafness there was an unmistakeable gleam of intelligence inside his black gaze. His disability made him unapproachable but Kane was determined to communicate no matter the difficulty.
Sign language had never interested Kane before but it quickly became a pastime. He would practice words and phrases until his hands cramped, but his hard work paid off as Eos seemed impressed and took an interest in him. Kane slowly discovered Eos' personal loneliness and married it to his own, determined their bond would fill the holes in each other.
The more they conversed the more perfect Eos became. Open and trusting, accepting and understanding, everything Kane needed fulfilled in one perfect being. Whenever a moment of weakness buried him Eos was there to ease his spirit, and everyday Kane felt himself diving deeper into his feelings. All his affections spilled out into the shape of Eos and suddenly he was all that mattered. Wherever Eos went Kane was sure to follow, never straying far from his side.
Their relationship deepened and developed in the years to follow mostly due to Kane's determination. As Kane matured through high school he noticed the affections he felt for his friend slowly blossom into genuine love, and a new desire to monopolize Eos spread through him like a disease. It was difficult to confess as Eos often disregarded his love for misplaced admiration, but regardless of the rejections his dependency only grew stronger.
Tragedy arose when Eos disappeared, leaving only a rushed apology behind. In his writings he assured Kane had no part in his desire to leave but Kane was inconsolable, taking Eos' absence as a fault all his own. Eos had helped him all those years but he didn't realized he never asked for help in return. The thought that he never truly knew Eos, that maybe all the trust and friendship he thought they shared was one sided, haunted him even in sleep.
Desperate for relief he began drawing the man everywhere. Recreating the flawless image of Eos' beauty consumed him, and in a single mad thought he convinced himself that if he could capture Eos' divinity then maybe the selfishness inside him would be forgiven. Then, and only then, his beloved would return to his side so that he might finally breath again.
