Choice of Ingredient(s): Color - pinkan berry
    Prompt(s):
    Code: Select all
Diz groaned at the owner of the shop, fake charming smile long forgotten. "What do you mean you don't take coin for these berries?" He whined and the owner narrowed their eyes at him.

"Pinkan berries are incredibly rare and extremely valuable, these are berries I cannot grow myself and instead have to collect from a special island, they are priceless"

Diz frowned, "You just said they're valuable and now they're priceless? If they're so special why are you even selling them?" He asked, getting frustrated. He'd never baked a pie before and was just going solely off of Aunties instructions, he was kicking himself now for never helping out his mother with the baking. Diz didn't remember overhearing anything when she would explain the process to his siblings, the only thing he'd recalled was that his favourite pie involved berries. And he was pretty sure it was pinkan berry pie. (spoiler alert he's thinking of pecha berries)

The shopkeeper ignored him and leaned over their counter to look at the bag Diz was wearing, instinctively the eevee took a step back and frowned at the owner. "What?" He asked uneasily.

"Well," The owner began, leaning back and grinning at him, their face the perfect picture of innocence, "If you've got somethin' in that bag that interests me I'll sell one to ya"

Diz wasn't keen on the idea of giving one of his belongings away but Auntie looked so upset when she told him the pies went missing earlier. With a huff he sat down and began to dig through his bag, rifling through it for something he could give up to the owner. He lifted up a small mushroom to them, something he'd gathered in the forest on his way here. The shopkeeper shook their head no and Diz continued to search.

None of the things he'd gathered seemed to be catching the owner's attention and in a fit of frustration, Diz upended his bag onto the ground to search easier. It was then that the shopkeeper leaned over the counter again and pointed to something in the pile. Diz fished out the half-completed gadget he'd been fiddling with. It was nothing impressive, just a fancy way of starting a fire for their campsites.

But it seemed to be good enough for the owner of the shop — and with a grin that hopefully didn't betray the fact that in its current state the gadget wouldn't even work — he handed it over in exchange for the berry. Diz hurried through his thanks and rushed off, not waiting for the chance to the shopkeeper to ask for the berry back.

Choice of Ingredient(s):Aroma: Sweet Wood
Prompt(s):
Lester would seem like the perfect fit to make some good friends, being the most friendly of the group; would take it up on himself to go into the woods and get some sweet wood! Trudging forth, he'd find himself quickly getting lost and walking circles till he heard some laughter. "Oh good, someone could help me!" He thought, following the laughter where he'd find himself face to face with the ones who cultivate the Sweet wood. With a big smile, he'd say his hellos, excited to see new faces after walking and getting lost. It was clear to him he was tired so he strikes up a conversation to rest his legs, and talk they did, him sharing his adventures and more... Eventually he'd realize he was talking their ear off like the old man he was and apologize. It seemed they didn't seem to mind and rather found it very interesting... But Lester would still realize he was still lost. Giving a regretful sigh, he'd ask them for help finding his way out. They didn't seem all that bothered either helping him out, leaving him out the forest... But before fully leaving him, they gifted him Sweet Wood. He totally forgot that was his whole purpose and would thank them profusely. Waving their goodbyes, he'd take in a happy breath... He got the Sweet Wood!

Choice of Ingredient(s):
Sweet Bark
Prompt(s):
[335 words]
Appl’s vision blurs as he continues to walk; treading endlessly. The sky is dimly lit by a sunset with colors of passion; pinks and purples dot the sky, reds and yellows tango under a rim of void dotted with flicks of paint; little stars on a muddled canvas. The sky peeks through the trees as Appl walks; the sky’s beautiful colors fading briskly, faster than he could go.

Soon; it is dark. Appl continues wandering on the path, going down the trail lit by the moonlight. He couldn’t see well, but something seemed off; a subdued glow in the distance, he continued to wander forth.

Appl comes across a forest; Pink lights shone from these tree’s leaves, and the bark was a rosy tinted burgundy color. The whole forest smelled like cinnamon; and riombees and cutieflies could be seen around the area. A few cottonee gave him a few stares as he continued to walk. This must be the bark that Auntie was talking about…Appl thinks, looking at the tree. He started to reach for some of the bark, before suddenly being caught off guard by a huge Florges, who stared at him, less than pleased. “What do you think you’re doing?” She said, looking down at him. He gulped. “I… was just admiring!”. The florges scoffed and looked at him, before a shiny whimsicott came up behind her. He had glasses adorning his face and flowers covering him. “Ma’m, perhaps he needs some of our bark? We have more than plenty.” He said, in a matter of fact tone; Appl nodded. “I do need some… it’s a gift…” He made up a half-lie, hoping it would please the florges. The florges sighed, and gave him some of the bark. “Here. Use it well. I do not like giving from my garden, but if the advisor says I should, then perhaps it is in his best judgment.” Appl smiled, and chirped a small “Thank you!” to the florges and whimsicott, before running back to Auntie’s.

Choice of Ingredient(s): Color - Pinkan Berry
Prompt(s): [199 words]
Dimentio Jr. stumbles through the market, its eyes shifting between all the exciting sights to witness. However, one things does seem to catch his eye - a Pinkan Berry, in the real! Wow...it's a distinct pink color. Perhaps not the same pink as Dimentio Jr. himself, but to quote the boy: "Any pink is a friend of mine!"
Waddling up to the merchant, it wordlessly points at one of the Pinkan berries sitting on the counter top.

"Why, hello there. If you want one of these, you must bring me an offer I'll never forget," The merchant bears a mischievous grin.

An offer they'll never forget...? Okay! Dimentio Jr. can do that. He begins scouring the nearby ground for anything, absolutely anything to offer that merchant while abiding by their interesting request.
At last...he's found it!
Rushing back, Dimentio Jr. only manages to nearly trip seven times! Slamming its offer on the table...it's...a twig?!

The merchant's nose scrunches.
...well, it was an offer they'll never forget. Plus, it was a kid...
The merchant reluctantly hands the child a Pinkan berry. Certainly far from the biggest one in stock. With a big grin, Dimentio Jr. runs off with their newest purchase!

Day: 2
Choice of Ingredient(s): Color
Prompt(s):
Sonnee has always been more on the shy side, so he wasn’t sure what on earth made him agree to go barter with a merchant for some pie ingredients. He supposed that’s what he gets for needing to be such a poke-pleaser. The little sprout nervously bounced his way to the market, wondering if he was even going to be able to keep his composure for the duration of the task at hand.

The tiny little sunkern bounced his way to the merchant, slowing his pace as he approached, his mind racing however. With a squeaky, shy voice, Sonnee pipes up, offering a greeting to the merchant to begin this painful interaction. The merchant just looks at him a little funny, wondering what an innocent and weak-looking pokemon like Sonnee was doing wandering around a spooky forest in search of goods. It almost appeared as if the merchant was looking for the adult accompanying Sonnee, but Sonnee is his own adult!

Seeing how the merchant was already treating him before starting to bargain made Sonnee a little upset already. He was hesitant about sharing what he had brought with him with such a mean pokemon, but he tried to push through, thinking of how badly Auntie Appletun needed help. The little sunkern opened up the sprout atop his head, shaking his leaves towards the merchant. He offered him some sunkern seeds in exchange for the desired Berry for the pie. Given how there likely wasn’t any other sunkern anywhere near this haunted-looking forest area, Sonnee was hoping this would be a rare treat for the folks around these parts.

The merchant eyed Sonnee suspiciously, and silently. The silence may have been even worse than the staring. Sonnee waited in agony for what felt like an eternity for an answer from the merchant. Thankfully, sunkern seeds are an acceptable exchange for pinkan berries!

Day: 2
Choice of Ingredient(s): Aroma
Prompt:

As the ragtag group enjoyed their cider, they all looked at each other with anticipation, as if each of them was waiting for someone to speak.

The Pokemon who spoke first was Basil. "So... how'd everyone make it over here?" he said through his final sip of cider.

Kougra leaned forward excitedly, almost knocking over her cup. "Me an' Lily and Lilac and Teddy were out trick-or-treating, and then we stopped here!"

"Yeah... we felt bad for Auntie Appletun..." Lily added, fidgeting with her paws. "Um, so we wanted to help, and...yeah." The little Vulpix looked very nervous to be speaking to strangers, but she was much calmer than she would be without her group of friends.

"I just wanted some candy..." Lilac said simply. "But this cider works too~ heehee."

The Snomvee at the table spoke up next. "Well, I live in this forest, and I was curious as to what was going on in this cabin... or how it even appeared in the first place, honestly." She wagged her tail and took a sip of her cider. "My brother's asleep, so I'm sure he won't mind if I help out for a bit!"

Basil smiled warmly. "I live here too. I came out to help because I saw a certain somebody eyeing Miss Appletun's pie..." He gave a pointed look to the Teddiursa sitting beside him, "...but even after I stopped Hemlock, it seems a wild Pokemon had their fill." Basil sighed, looking down at the wooden table.

"Uh, for your information, I was not planning to steal that pie," Hemlock announced quite unconvincingly. "But really, if you're gonna leave it lying out in the open-"

Basil smacked her with his leaf, which shut her up. He cleared his throat abruptly. "So, ingredients. What do you guys suppose we use?" Basil did have his own opinions on which one (some very strong ones at that; he is a baker, after all), but he didn't want to seem overbearing or rude.

"Rhubarb sounds yucky," started Kougra. "Plus I don't wanna fight a mean Drilbur..."

Yuki nodded. "If I may add, I've had a Pinkan berry before, and it stained my mouth and fur pink for weeks. So... maybe not that one."

The previously silent Gengar slouched at the table spoke up quietly. "...From what that there Appletun told us, I would also be wary of that Marshtomp Glove. It seems dangerous."

Basil clapped. "Ooh, excellent! Because the sweet wood was what I was leaning towards..." He chuckled. "I've used it plenty of times in my recipes - it adds the perfect aroma to any dish."

"Uhm... who's going to go out and get it though? Because, uhm..." Lily's voice trailed off as she thought. "We should get this done soon, for Auntie Appletun's sake..."

There was silence for a second. Hemlock downed the rest of her cider, then piped up, "Well, Basil, if you've used this ingredient before... it only makes sense that you go and get it. You'd know where it is and all." Though she was being logical for once, it was obvious the Teddiursa was simply trying to get a rise out of Basil.

But a rise she did not get. "You know what? You're right, Hemlock! But I'm not going without you."

Hemlock looked taken by surprise. "Huh?"

"I know you'll just get into trouble if I leave you here alone," Basil said, causing Hemlock to cross her arms in frustration. "So, you're coming with me whether you like it or not."

She opened her mouth to protest, then simply grunted. "Fiiine. But only because you're the only one I know here, and junk."

Basil hopped off the log chair he was sitting on and started for the door. "Let's get going!"

--

The two had made their way throughout the forest, looking out for any sign of the ingredient. "Got any scent of it, Hem?"

"It'd be a bit easier if you'd give me a better description than 'spicy', but no." Hemlock sniffed the air, trying to place it.

Basil giggled. "Oh dear, my bad. It's got a sort of cinnamony aroma... you've stolen a cinnamon pie from me before, you should know what it smells like."

"That's irrelevant to the situation, but okay," grumbled Hemlock. She took another whiff. "I think I'm getting something from over here, maybe?"

"'Maybe' isn't good enough," stated Basil. "If we get lost, you'll never hear the end of it."

"Yeah, yeah! I've got a good scent trail going, just follow," Hemlock groaned. "It's really strong, actually. Like... oh, hey!"

The Teddiursa looked down at a thick log that smelled strongly of cinnamon and cardamom. "Hm...seems like we were right by it this whole argument. Curious."

What she didn't see was the Morelull beginning to swarm behind her. "Hemlock, look out!" She turned around to see the army of small fairy Pokemon, along with a giant Shiinotic hovering over them all.

"What are little Pokemon like you doing in our territory?~" cooed the Shiinotic, a hypnotizing musical lilt in her voice. The Morelull below her seemed to murmur amongst themselves as she stepped forward.

Basil and Hemlock shared a troubled look. Clearing his throat, Basil began, "Hello, ma'am! We're here to look for ingredients for a pie. We're sorry if we bothered you or your family."

"Oh, not at all, not at all!~" she sang. "It's always fun to have visitors...but that's not allowed, little sprite."

Basil looked at her confusedly until he noticed Hemlock holding the piece of bark tight, awkwardly looking around. He annoyedly hissed out her name and batted it out of her arms. "I am. So, so unbelievably sorry about her, Miss."

"Heehoo, it's okay..." She clutched the wood, grinning. "But if you want this for your dish, you'll have to help us first~"

Basil began to feel a little nervous. "Oh, nonono, we don't want to impose! I'm sorry for the inconvenience. We'll get going."

As Basil turned, Hemlock grabbed his shoulder. In a whisper, she said, "But... what about the wood?"

"Listen, Hem," Basil whispered back, "Whatever you do in this forest, you don't mess with faeries. If we tell her we'll do things just to take that wood, they'll expect something greater."

Hemlock slouched. "Well... what if we just... help them anyway? Without expecting anything."

"Huh...?" The Chikorita looked back, a confused look on his face. "I'm sorry, isn't this the first time you've acted this nice?"

She gave a grumpy look. "Hey! I'm NOT nice, I just... that Appletun, she said that kindness was important here... just listening to her or whatever. So I could like. Get some pie and all."

Basil grinned warmly, knowing Hemlock had a sweet side deep down. "Heh...you're right."

They trotted back up. Hemlock looked down, holding her paws. "Uhm, hi, ma'am. Sorry I tried to run off with your wood. We'll help out you and your Morelull; and we don't need anything back from you."

The Shiinotic looked down, looking surprised yet amused. "Oh, how generous! There's a lot to do around here... you sprites will fit right in~"

--

Hours and hours had passed, and the Shiinotic's demands finally started to ebb. The two had carried and organized their collection of rotting logs, which the Morelull made their little homes in. They'd adjusted the tree branches so they'd offer more shade for the dark loving mushrooms. And they even helped out with dinner, Hemlock helping tear apart bitter herbs with her teeth. At the end of the day, they were exhausted, and the forest seemed darker than ever before.

Once the soup was steaming, Basil sat up. "I guess we'll get going now! We're so glad we could help." Tons of little Morelull ran around Basil excitedly. "Now your little ones will have nice log homes."

Hemlock wasn't gonna speak up, but inside, she was proud too. I don't usually do nice stuff for people outside the city, but... I feel... warm? Hm...

Shiinotic stepped forward, grabbing onto Hemlock's arm. "No, no, you simply must stay for dinner! It's the least we could do~"

"Dinner?" Hemlock asked, licking her lips. Mmm... that stew doesn't look too bad.

"We wouldn't wanna overstay our welcome," Basil said hastily. "And it's getting pretty dark..."

"Nonsense, little one!" the Shiinotic chirped. "There's plenty of stew to go around. And one of my little Lulls can escort you home -- they do glow very brightly when they lead the way."

Basil smiled sheepishly, feeling his stomach rumble. I guess we can stay a liiiittle longer.

--

Hemlock sat and watched the bubbling soup, drool building up in her mouth. It took all she had to not dip her paw in. She couldn't help but stare as the Shiinotic ladeled out portions into handcarved wooden bowls, passing them out to the little Morelull.

"You just gonna stand there, little bear?" Shiinotic asked warmly. "Come and get your fill!"

She shyly walked forward and took a bowl of soup, bringing the steamy bowl to her lips. Instantly the pungent flavor hit her tongue, and she couldn't help but down the whole bowl, the warmth spreading throughout her entire body.

Basil followed suit, gently sipping his portion. He licked his lips with satisfaction, soon going back for more!

The Morelull danced in the moonlight after the feast, their spores glowing and hunger satisfied. The moonlight illuminated their silhouettes, and it was a beautiful sight to see. Basil and Hemlock watched the performance, clutching their bowls close and leaning on one another.

Image

After a few more bowls of soup, both Hemlock and Basil were stuffed. "This was really nice," Basil sighed contently. He got up, letting out a yawn. "We should get home now before the others start to worry, Hem."

Hemlock rubbed her eyes and nodded. But before she followed Basil out, she went up to the Shiinotic and stared up at her. "Uh, thank you. For the meal, and stuff." She awkwardly turned around and shuffled away. Man, it's exhausting to be nice.

"Hey, wait!" the Shiinotic said.

A chill ran down Basil's spine. Oh no. I was so caught up in the moment, I didn't even consider any risk...oh, Mew, please don't tell me we're stuck here.

The Shiinotic grinned, looking a lot less intimidating to Hemlock at least. "No Pokemon has ever stayed for dinner!" she exclaimed. "Most Pokemon in this forest believe those silly little stories about how us Faeries will imprison those who eat our food, or even whom say thank you...meeting someone who doesn't is truly a breath of fresh air!"

Basil chuckled awkwardly. "Ahahaha, yeah, who would believe in those?"

"For your kindness, little bear, you can have this." She held out the last piece of sweet wood, which was still perfectly in tact.

Hemlock looked down at the log, then back up at her, as if pondering whether she could really have it. After a few seconds, she took it graciously. "T-thank you!" she blurted out, blushing.

Shiinotic patted Hemlock's head. "You two get going now! I'm sorry I kept you so long, little sprites~"

"Thank you so much!" Basil shouted out, feeling embarrassed for believing the silly folklore he'd lived by. "We'll bring you a slice of the pie we make! Promise!"

The two walked back to the little cottage side by side by the guide of a Morelull, the memory of the night fresh in their minds and hearts full and happy.

Prompt(s): Shifara and Neko felt braver having each other's company to venture off into the woods for the Sweet Wood. After following their noses, they managed to find the fragrant trees. They quickly noticed the fairy types tending to the trees. A Spritzee soon floated up to them to inquire as to what the two Pokemon might be looking for. The two felines explained their desire for the bark in a yummy pie, even offering to provide something in exchange for it. There was a moment of silence while the Spritzee thought about it and talked to some of the other Pokemon. The one they had been talking to returned with their task. Shifara and Neko had to track down a few berries in harder to reach places. With a bit of teamwork and some ingenuity, the two soon had what they needed. They brought back the berries, traded for a strip of bark, then returned to Auntie Appletun with big smiles on their faces.

        Code: Select all
Jazz stared into the entrance of the woods. Somehow, he had been dragged into collecting ingredients with his boyfriend. Jazz himself wasn't much of a chef or a baker, but Error was. Error took a lot of pride in cooking, especially when it made Jazz happy.

Jazz lowered his head, sighing softly. Anything for Error, he thought.

        "So," "So?"

Jazz looked toward Error before sitting down and grabbing a torch from his small pouch, lighting it up with a small burst of fire.

        "It's dark in there."

Error chuckled. "It's a forest, and it's fairly late in the day, of course it'll be dark."
Jazz shook his head, trudging off into the forest. Error followed behind.
"What are we even looking for?" "A colony." "Well, yeah, I know that. That's what Auntie said."

Error hummed softly, keeping his eyes forward.
"Well, you'll know it when you see it. It's not hard to miss a fairy colony deep in a forest."

Jazz figured any of his questions would go unanswered.
Small talk made the walk seem a lot shorter than it was. Soon enough, the duo made it to a small clearing. It was a small village of sorts, you could call it. There seemed to be homes made within the trees, and small huts made of leaves and straw and bamboo.

Error seemed to be on top of things, already. Before Jazz could speak, the ninetails was off talking to one of the fairy mons nearby. Jazz watched as his boyfriend handed them a jar of jam. He looked like such a natural as being social and making friends.. Jazz seemed to blush as he watched his boyfriend easily collect what they had gone there to get; Sweet Wood.
As Error turned back toward Jazz, he caught a glimpse of the Flareon looking as though he was falling in love again. Error chuckled, putting the ingredient into his pouch and giving Jazz a nudge to ground him back in reality.
"Alright, lover boy, let's head back."
