Ghost Waltz

Pigeonclaw smooths his hickory brown suit and straightens his white embroidered cuffs. He'd never gone to a ball before, in fact he probably would have been happy never going to one, but when his friend Evermist asked him to be her date because she was nervous about being picked on if she didn't have one, he had no choice but to agreed. he looked at she mask she'd picked for him and noted that at least it didn't entirely clash with his suit. Reluctantly, he put it on and looked across the carriage to meet his friend's eyes. Her sand-colored eyes gazed back approvingly through a light green mask which well with her pear green gown.

Slowly, the carriage came to a stop and they were let out into a courtyard that lead up to a fancy manor. Pigeonclaw stood for a moment, admiring the courtyard's landscaping and the architectural details on the manor, until Evermist coughed quietly next to him. He startled for a moment, but remembered what he was there for. He took Evermist's arm and escorted her to the building, ignoring the guests around him.

Pigeonclaw stumbled back from whatever he'd run into while he'd had been admiring the interior, as Evermist had gone off to get something to drink. He turned to apologize, but got distracted by the bird on their shoulder. "I didn't know we could bring birds, I would have brought mine!" He exclaimed, then remembered that he'd meant to apologize and did so quickly.

The other guest introduced himself as Ara and they talked about their birds for a moment, until Evermist stole him away for an obligatory dance as her date. Afterwards, she ran off to find the others on her dance card, which was full, and he began to look for Ara again as he'd quite enjoyed their chat. It took a few minutes, but he finally met heterochromatic eyes and made his way to him.

When he had almost reached Ara, another guest grabbed him by the arm, asking if he would dance with her. He pulled his arm away and, desperate for a polite way out of it, pointed at Ara and blurted out, "I'm actually going to dance with him!" He quickly made his way over to Ara and explained the situation, asking if he minded doing one dance to justify the excuse.

Ara agreed good-naturedly and they headed on to the dance floor. Pigeonclaw was worried about his slight limp getting in the way, but Ara lead him gracefully. It was exhilarating and when the song ended, Pigeonclaw wanted to ask him for another dance. As he began to speak, Evermist grabbed him away once more, this time to help her try to fix a stain on her dress from a spill. Unfortunately, it wouldn't come out and she was forced to leave early, taking Pigeonclaw with her. He didn't even get a chance to say goodbye to Ara, who seemed to have vanished into the crowd.
