The platypus is one of the only venomous mammals, with a gland in their back feet that secretes a very painful, but not fatal, venom. Usually your hand will just swell up and will hurt with the pain of 1000 suns but you’ll live, smaller animals aren’t as lucky though.

Side Effects & Safety. Water hemlock is UNSAFE for anyone to take by mouth or apply to the skin. All plant parts are poisonous and can cause death in as little as 15 minutes. Even applying water hemlock to your skin can cause death.

The plant is poisonous at all stages of development and is most toxic in the spring. Poisonings typically result from ingestions; however, cicutoxin also may be absorbed through the skin. Mild toxicity from water hemlock produces nausea, abdominal pain, and epigastric distress within 15-90 minutes.
