story: my favorite fairy tale is Grimm's Juniper tree, about an evil stepmother who killed her step son because she hated him. His little sister eventually buried his bones beneath the juniper tree where his mother is, and he comes back as a bird. Everyone loves his song, which he sings in return for items. After giving them all and the stepmother is dead, he comes back. I think fairy tales are super neat with how they do things.

story: my favorites were always about peter pan.
wendy finds peter crying on her floor, primarily about how his shadow won't stick to him.
wendy decides to sew peter's shadow to his shoes, which makes peter very happy. Then
peter wants wendy to be the mother to all of his lost boys and himself in neverland, so
she agrees as long as she can be taught to fly. He agrees and wendy brings john and michel.
we then go through explaining the indians and the mermaids before deciding that they would
go home and ask their parents if they can adopt the lost boys. however peter pan does not want
to have parents telling him what to do, so he lets the lost boys be adopted but not himself.
however captain hook spoiled their plans by capturing them when they were about to leave,
and peter and hook duel it out. in the end pushing hook into the water and the classic tick
tock croc takes care of the rest. wendy, john and michel, along with the lost boys then return home
from neverland. the parents agreed to adopt the lost boys so now they have a heck ton of
children. but peter didn't want too so he and tinker bell left back to neverland.

My mother used to tell me a story about a girl living with her abusive 2 (evil) step sisters and a (evil) stepmother in a lone house in the middle of in forest in winter. They would starve her and make her wear dirty clothes and only rewarded her when the tasks were complete . The first thing she had to get was a white rose which her step mother was sure she would fail at but as the daughter went into the forest the spirits of the forests gave her what she needed, when she came home her stepmother was shocked but impressed which caused the other sisters to be very jealous , that night she got rewarded with clean clothes. Her second task was to catch a female nightingale which the stepmother was sure she would fail at . The forest spirits helped her again which made the step mother impressed again and the step sisters more jealous towards her , that night she got rewarded with food. As her final task , the daughter had to get the biggest , sweetest and most ripe apples in the forest which the stepmother was sure would be impossible in the time of winter . The forest yet again helped her. Since the apples were so big she could only carry a small amount which the step sisters called her out for saying that the greedy girl ate the rest, the stepmother chose to believe her own two daughters and decided to punish her other one by starving her , cutting her hair and messing up her clothes . As the stepmother and step sisters were feeding on the apples the daughter ran away to live in the forest , protected by the spirits . The horrid stepmother and sisters will soon find out the apples were poisoned by the forest spirits.

My mom's old room she shared with her older sister had a few books in an old bookcase that I used to love reading when I'd go over to my grandma's house - one story was about a group of six identical sons who lived together, and if I remember correctly the story went like this - one of the six sons was convicted of a murder charge and sentenced to death. The day of the execution, the son switched places with one of his brothers, who had an ability that allowed him to survive the execution. Since it was unsuccessful, they planned another form of execution another day - and so the sons switched again to one who could survive the execution attempt. For instance, one involved being locked in a container with no oxygen for a day, but they didn't know that one son could hold their breath for a super long time. They tried to drown another son, but he could drink the ocean. Basically they kept trying but couldn't kill the man, who was a different son each time anyway, and eventually they gave up and let him go free. Moral of the story - I have no idea, but the illustrations were really nice and I always thought it was sort of funny in a dark way, even as a little kid.

"Que pretendes hacer. Con un niño de piel, Ah, ah. Hijo de la luna..."

When I was younger, my mother would always sing to me in Spanish because she hoped that I would grow up to be bilingual because she's of puerto rican decent and my dad's a good irish-american boy [ which sadly isn't the case because I grew up with English speaking shows and I hate spanish classes ]. She used to sing me a song in spanish, and I didn't know anything about it because I didn't understand english, let alone spanish when I was young enough to be sang to when I needed to sleep. I didn't know it was an actual story until around 6th grade. All throughout life I had grown up with severe anxiety towards thunderstorms, or storms of any type [ even clouds freaked me out ]. A huge hurricane came in and took out the lights while I was visiting my grandmother. I was terrified and hiding in the closet until my uncle got the power generator up. Even after that, I was still terrified of the storm outside due to it taking down trees near my aunt's house. My grandma pulled out this weird mechanical thing [ which i found out later was pretty much a modernized version of a vinyl player ] and started playing music. It was the same song my mom sang me, but obviously more dramatic and produced. It turned out the song was called Hijo de la Luna, a song by Mecano and released in 1986. I still didn't know english, and my grandmother thought I wasn't old enough to hear the actual meaning of the song without being scared, but my uncle told me instead when she went back to bed.

The song actually told the folk tale about a Romani woman asking the Moon to help her. The woman ran to beg the moon for a child so that she would be able to marry the man that she loves, and in return, they agreed that the moon would have the woman's first born son. The moon believes the woman is selfish, as she would agree to sacrifice her son just so that she would not be alone in the world. The moon, however, does not wish to hurt the baby. She has no ability to have a child, and she wishes to have a baby of her own to take care of, which sparked her agreement with the Romani woman. It is questioned however, how the moon could ever take care of a child who is one with the human world.

The woman and her love had their first child together, but while taking care of the newborn, the father realized that the child looked nothing like him- with grey eyes unlike his own green, and with skin paler than the sand. She believed that the woman had cheated on him, and took the child away after abandoning the woman. He brought the child to a mountain, leaving him there to cry as he rode off out of anguish from the believed betrayal. The moon rescues the child, and brings him up to the stars to care for the small baby.

It's said, whenever the moon is full, it is because the child is happy and the moon is as full as his smile. The waxing and the waning of the moon into a crescent comes when the baby is crying, the moon making a cradle for her son to rest in. The moon doing all she can to raise her son. Hijo de la luna, Son of the Moon.
