For Valentine's day, Camilla has never had that special someone, but that doesn't stop her from sending out cards to those dearest to her. Dearest meaning Vincent; the only one who put up with her brash behaviour. Even then, she's pretty sure he questions himself. What better way to show her love and appreciation for her best friend than to send him a Valentine! One she's certain he'll treasure.

Inside the card, which was hand-picked special from the nearest hallmark, had a photo of her face sloppily plastered over whatever sweet and endearing words laid underneath. Who needed heartfelt words when a picture was worth a million more? Vincent would understand. Beside the photo of herself, Hallmark had so kindly left her space to write a few captivating words of her own.

Dawn smiled softly at the cover -- it was simple, with a shiba sticker plopped onto the front. Dawn wasn't the most artistic person, as her card lacking anything beautiful from first glance, but the card was something she was meaning to make for a while now. Carefully, as if it was on the verge of ripping, she open the card she had just finished putting together. The inside was as equally plain as the outside, but with a message written onto the left side.

On the right, there she had attached a picture that took her ages to find. It was her and Bean. Dawn sniffled, gently running her finger over the outline of her previous dog, Bean. Tongue out, bandanna on -- the way she always remembered him.

Bean -- a three legged good boy that hopped around wherever Dawn had went. The most bright and stubborn dog Dawn had ever owned, Dawn reserved a large place in her heart for Bean. It was dearly unlucky for Bean to be struck with a painful illness to the point where he passed, leaving Dawn returning home from the vet with a silent night. A night where Bean didn't whine until Dawn opened her bedroom door to let him in and sleep beside her. A night where Bean wasn't sniffing Dawn's grocery bags to see if she brought something home for him as he forgot to keep his balance and tumbled. A night where Bean had tried his best to cheer Dawn up from a bad day, but a tail wag and a hop towards her was enough for her to crack a smile.

She was lonely.

Something about that bugger she was unable to sleep peacefully without. Maybe it was the uncharacteristic gloomy gaze Bean had given Dawn when she entered the vet, and maybe it was the painfully loud whine of Bean as he took his last breaths. Maybe it was saying goodbye to who she expected to be a lifelong friend.

Dawn went into her backyard, gingerly placing the card on the stash of dog toys Bean owned, with a new addition to the card: The mark of salty tears.

4 months, 2 weeks and five days... since you left.

Fauna wasn't a kalon to dismiss any holiday as casual. No, she always went all out in every possible way. Elaborate parties, decorations made of glitter and hand painted, spectacular costumes sewn by her own paws... You name it, she did it. Of course, Valentine's Day was no exception.

She had brainstormed for months before. Fauna was never one to do a simple card with a cheesy quote. No, she had to think of ways to make it unique and personal to her sweetheart. However, her valentine would prove to be a challenge for her. She wasn't nearly as extroverted as Fauna was, so parties presenting a card were certainly out of the picture. Though she was complex and intelligent, so a simple dinner or store-bought card wouldn't do either. What was there to do?

Fauna knew that Halle, her valentine, was very mathematical and well-calculated. She adored problems that stumped her and gave her a challenge. What better way to do this than a little scavenger hunt?

Halle knew Fauna better than any other kalon, which might have been the source of her dread for Valentine's Day. She knew without a doubt she would end up doing something huge for her, most likely with a crowd of friends... She adored Fauna, but sometimes she could be a little much.

Her dread subsided when she opened her mailbox that day, however. A neat, slip of light pink paper was inside, a small lavender candy heart attached. She read the slip of paper.

This is all of a sudden,
but I hope it isn't a burden.
Where the clock ticks by,
where the doves fly,
there it would appear.

No doubt about it, this was Fauna's doing. A soft grin appeared on the kalon's face as she pondered the simple riddle. A clock... Some birds... Ah, the plaza! Halle's smile extended across her face with a giggle, wasting no time in heading off to the plaza to retrieve her next clue.

Clue after clue, Halle was able to solve them all even if she had to stop to think about them for moments at a time. All the while she did with the most lovely of smiles on her face, excitement tingling at her paws with every secret revealed.

Finally the last clue:

You have come all this way,
throughout this special day.
Approach where the sun sets,
to see what you will get.

Of course, that meant the arch by the garden, named "sunset gardens." With a bounce in her walk, she headed there under the dying sunlight. She searched around for any signs of Fauna and soon her eyes landed on the large object in a bed of roses, laughing softly as she approached it. It appeared to be a vast card, reading "Halle" on the front.

Once she opened it, she was met with a sweet peck on her cheek. There Fauna was, poking her head out of the card and matching her smile.

Very artsy girl, "you know I'm better at showing my love through the things I make than the words I write, so I made you this, with all the things I've kept that remind me of you, and the things we've gone through together"
Probably spends most of her days crafting and is just a very messy girl while creating, very carefree and sweet
