The day dawned bright and clear. The pale blue sky was shot through with streaks of cream and gold, with hardly a cloud to be seen. Inside, she didn't need an alarm to wake her. She rose with the sun, as she had done for a very long time now. Throwing the blanket off her legs, she shivered slightly at the cooler temperature. She stretched, letting out a wide yawn as she did so, and rubbed the sleep from her eyes. As her body adjusted to being awake, she let her gaze wander around her room.

The wooden floor still had a few grains of sand she would have to sweep up later. The walls, also made of wood, had been painted a soft blue. Books about sea life lined her shelves. A handmade wooden mobile hung from her ceiling, made of driftwood and seashells she'd found along the shoreline. On the end of her bed sat a plush shark, giving her a goofy stitched grin. Giving herself a shake, she leaped out of bed and headed towards the kitchen.

No one else was up yet, and so she was quiet as she snuck around making breakfast. A quick bowl of oatmeal – always with brown sugar and cinnamon – and then back to her room to get dressed. But she didn't change into regular clothes, no. Instead she pulled on her wetsuit, which by now she'd mastered being able to zip herself up at the back. Back in the kitchen, and she scribbled a note to leave on the counter – Gone swimming, be back later.

Outside, she took in a moment to breath in the crisp morning air, laced with the salty tang of the ocean. Barefoot, she walked around to the back shed, which still had Christmas lights decorating the entrance. Inside she found her surfboard, which she waxed down, despite the fact that she wouldn't really be surfing with it. Hiking it up under her arm, she began her routine walk to the beach.

It wasn't far, considering she was only a five minute walk away.

The grass around the house was short, tough, and springy; a bit like her, she supposed. It was always littered with fallen leaves from the nearby trees. As she reached the top of a small hill the ground turned to sand, slippery enough to slide down the short bank. She marveled at the feeling of it between her toes. She'd always loved that feeling, even if some people didn't. Ahead of her, the ocean stretched out into the distance; glittering in the suns early rays, catching the light as the waves crashed gently on the shoreline. Further out, the water was like glass, still and unbroken. Perfect weather for an early morning swim.

She walked down to the waters edge, and let the coolness wash over her feet. It was a bit cold, yes, but overwhelmingly refreshing. As she stood there, her eyes scanned the sea, wondering if they were still here. Just a little sign, to show they were still around-

Off the shore, a sudden spout of water shot from the ocean before falling back down, catching rainbows in the light as it did so. Her chest swelled with excitement, and she had to stop herself from running forward.

Into the water she went, a shiver running down her spine at the sudden change in temperature. Up to her knees, her hips, her waist, before she hauled herself up onto the board and began paddling. She knew that it was probably a little dangerous, how she liked to swim, but she couldn't help herself. She had such a strong urge to swim among the wildlife, to see how they interacted around her, and to show she was no harm. Ever since she was young, she'd always felt that the ocean was a friend, and so she treated it as such.

Another spout of water. Closer, this time. She continued to paddle in that direction. It wasn't the deepest she'd been out, but she knew where her limits were. Hopefully they'd come closer. She crossed her fingers, and whether it was that or them sensing her, her desire was granted.

She tucked her arms and legs up on the surfboard, and a few moments later, she saw a shadow pass underneath her. Another one, bigger this time, before moving back down into the depths. The first one rose up, and she felt the board wobble slightly. Her heart beat excitedly in her chest. Suddenly, just meters from her, a head broke through the surface. Water streamed from the shiny black head, glistening over the patch of white as the creature studied her for a moment before diving again. It wasn't long until the second one made an appearance, its huge head coming up out of the water just as the first one had. She lay there, unmoving, as their eyes met. Both head and fin then disappeared below her.

If there was one creature she loved more than any other, it was a whale. She felt a strong connection to these gentle giants, one she couldn't explain or describe, but her love for them was unshakeable, and she liked to think they could sense that. But there was something about orca's she just couldn't get enough of. They were strong, kind, intelligent creatures, and she took every moment given to her to spend time with them.

“Oh, the stories you could tell...” she murmured, her head resting on her arm while the other dangled in the water. She felt something brush against her hand, cool and sleek; her heart skipped a beat. Sitting up a little more, she looked back towards the shoreline. Not too far away. And she still had her board to climb back up on if needed. Hesitantly, hardly daring to breathe, she turned to sit sideways and let her legs hang in the water. Twisting slowly, she lowered herself down more, until only an arm was still holding the board and the rest of her was in the sea. Submerged once again, she felt a shiver at the cooler temperature cocooning her body. An embrace from the ocean, she liked to think.

She took in a deep breath, and plunged her head under the surface.

After many years of swimming, she had the knack of being able to keep her eyes open in the salty water, longer than most people. It often took a moment for her vision to adjust, but even if her eyes began stinging, it was all worth it. Being the start of a gorgeous summers day, the water was clear and sparkling near the top. Below it began to darken as it got deeper, but that didn't frighten her. She was much more focused on the orca's, who were still swimming alongside her.

Seeing them up close like this really took your breath away. Their mighty size was both intimidating and magnificent. Sunlight caught on their white patches and made them glow. They were so graceful when they swam, propelling their muscular bodies through the water with ease. But for her, it was seeing their eyes that was the real treat. Those large eyes, full of depth and wisdom and something else she couldn't describe. A kind of magic that only they possessed.

She raised her head to let out the air in her lungs, taking a moment to steady her breathing. Something bumped against her legs, and she took another breath and put her head back under.

The smaller one had swum just beneath her, its fin brushing by her. The larger one was deeper, seeming more wary of her now. Don't be afraid, she wanted to tell them. I'm a friend. You can trust me. It rose up higher, swimming only a few meters away, but decided it felt this was a safe enough distance. She wouldn't try to swim closer. She knew to respect their space. Up she went again for another breath, down her head came again. The smaller one had doubled back, almost brushing up against her legs again. She resisted the urge to giggle at its curious antics.

It was then that the larger one seemed to decide it was time to leave for now. She had a feeling they would be back; they'd been hanging around the beach for a few days now. It began swimming off, and the smaller one followed, but not before touching its head against her hand once more in what she took as a farewell gesture. She watched them swim away for as long as she could, before breaking the surface and climbing back on to her board. Shaking her head, she ran a hand through her wet hair and looked in the direction they'd been heading. She saw their fins gliding through the water, and she waved at them.

“Come back soon!” she called out. “I'll be waiting!”

Another spout of water shot up, catching rainbows in the light as the drops cascaded back down into the sea.

Okay im probably going with either horses or marine animals. Right now leaning on marine animals, she's a student taking her master's degree in marine sciences and joins kids every semester during their field trip to the reefs.

Name: Delilah
Gender: female
Sexuality: bisexual
Zodiac:
Delilah's birthday falls on August 31st, making her a Virgo.
Favorite Companions:

Delilah's eyes lit up like neon signs as she watched the tiny creature accept her offering - little pink paws scurrying and hurrying to stuff the small mountain of seeds and vegetables deep into huge, fluffy cheeks. The hamster squeaked and chattered away excitedly at it's newfound feast, while she gazed calmly from the comfort of her favorite armchair, positioned just so - she wouldn't want to miss any of the cute moments of the ones she shared her home with! Her gaze wandered down the line of tanks, making sure everyone was safe and well-fed, as she let out a contented sigh.

There's no doubt what Delilah's favorite creature to be around is - ever since she was very young and asked for a pet, and her parents rewarded her with a small gray dwarf hamster, she was hooked. As she's grown, she's only gotten more and more into their care and raising them properly. She even takes in hamsters other people can't care for any longer, or ones that were abandoned.

She spends the majority of her time rearranging their tanks and creating lavish landscapes for them with colorful bedding and lots of hides and toys for them to play with. Delilah also socializes with them frequently, making her hamsters extremely docile and friendly when being held or played with. She's constantly doing research into what can make her a better caretaker, and improving upon her own methods. Some would say she prefers the hamsters to other kalons, and they're probably right.

Delilah's pride and joy is obviously still the first hamster she ever owned, that little dwarf hamster she had affectionately dubbed "Stormy". Even though he's well into old age for a hamster, Stormy is still quite energetic and doing well. Delilah gives him extra care and love, knowing that she has limited time left with her beloved little boy.

Future Dreams:

Currently, Delilah is taking classes and studying to become a veterinarian. Her love for animals extends far beyond just hamsters, and she'd like to be able to care for as many ill or helpless creatures as she can. After all, vets have helped her precious pets more than a time or two, and she'd like to be able to do the same and save someone from heartbreak by healing their companions. It's a hard road, and she'd be lying if she said that the studying and tests get stressful and boring extremely quickly sometimes.

However, her friends and the idea of being able to help others out - especially cute little hamsters - always spurs her back into her groove. She's not the top student in her class, but she gets good grades and always turns things in on time.

After she becomes a vet, Delilah plans to open up an official rescue for hamsters as well with her new skills and earnings - instead of just a ragtag one out of her bedroom and a forum on the internet. She wants to foster them, get them healthy, and find them forever homes with people who will love and cherish them as much as she adores her own personal pets.

Likes:
~ Plushies & blankets
~ Collecting seashells
~ Drawing
~ Windy days
~ Stargazing
~ All things blue/cyan

Dislikes:
~ Overly pink things
~ Hot weather
~ People with overly soothing voices
~ Horror movies
~ Bland food
~ Non-fiction books

Random Facts:

~ Delilah wants to get a tattoo when she's older, or possibly several. She thinks they're really cool, and often sketches out what she might get in one of her drawing notebooks. She is, however, slightly afraid of how painful it might be.
~ When she was younger she used to enjoy horror themed things, now, they just scare her.
~ Through much teaching from her parents and those around her, Delilah is actually a pretty good cook for her age - but she can't bake to save her life. Many poor cakes have emerged from the oven in a cloud of smoke, the color of a stormy gray sky, straight to their fate of the trash can.
~ If she can't become a vet for whatever reason, Delilah would like to be a cosmetologist.
~ She's won several school and child-level competitions for her watercolor paintings.

Personality:

Delilah is a sweet girl, but easily frustrated as most youngsters can be - especially when it comes to difficult math problems or not being able to do what she wants to do. She has a short fuse, although her temper isn't anything too bad, and she usually ends up crying rather than blowing up at someone. She's happiest when focused in on one of her hobbies or interests, and incredibly hard to get attention from when she's doing this. Delilah can be quite outgoing when she wants to be, and isn't half shabby at making new friends, even though she prefers to just keep her small circle of close partners in crime. When she gets too stressed out, she tends to become more introverted, and speaks less and less until the problem is solved. She's a rather sleepy girl, and sometimes has problems keeping enough energy to get everything done that she wants to do - in fact, she's passed out on top of her school books more than once, and is often hard to wake up in the mornings even under the threat of loud music or cold water. Delilah is horrible at organization, and you can always bet on her room to be a bit of a mess - "organized chaos", since she always seems to be able to find whatever she needs even if someone else would never be able to seek it out for her. She can also be quite anxious, but has gotten good at hiding it most of the time and only those close to her would know about it very well.

Theme Song:
La Vie En Rose by IZ*ONE

Story:

The cages were stacked neatly on the shelving units that Delilah had so lovingly assembled by hand, double-checking each screw to make sure it would be nice and safe for her little ones. They were hand-made cages from plastic bins, to assure they had plenty of room to run and scurry and hide, each one decorated in a different theme or color. Willow, for example, was slumbering securely in her shades of green, her hide shaped like a tiny tree and a plastic background of a lovely forest plastered to the back of the container. Next to her was Bean, his cage much more colorful and childish with alphabet block chew toys for him, a tiny slide, and a hide that resembled a child's playhouse.

Gently, she grabbed ahold of one on the middle row and pulled it out, setting it in front of her on the rug as she undid the latches and tugged the lid off. "Hi, sweetie," Delilah crooned, dipping one paw in to gently pat one of the newest additions to her little family.

Sugar was a tiny thing, a little pure white dwarf hamster she'd gotten from an ad online. The family had been moving and didn't want to bother with the trouble of lugging along a hamster and it's cage. They hadn't even asked for money or any proof of being a good owner, and Delilah had pounced like a fierce mama bear to ensure she got first dibs and poor little Sugar wouldn't go to someone who wouldn't care for her - or worse, use her as food for something else.

When she'd gotten there, Delilah remembered how her eyes had almost pricked with tears as she looked at the conditions the tiny hamster had been kept in. The cage was filthy, the water bottle empty, they'd been feeding her sunflower seeds instead of actual food. Her teeth and claws were overgrown, and her fur was matted and full of things Delilah didn't even want to guess at. Sugar had skittered away anxiously as soon as she got close, and she realized even the wheel was too tiny for such a small hamster to use.

She'd barely been able to keep her emotions under wraps as she quickly snatched the cage and ran home to where her parents were waiting. Knowing little about the creatures, even they looked worried and stunned at the sight - even more so when their daughter burst into tears.

It took Delilah twenty minutes just to calm herself down, and she immediately went into what her friends liked to call "mommy mode". The cage she had made just days before was already waiting, and she scooped the dwarf hamster into her paws - knowing full well the scared creature might bite her, but not wanting her to wait any longer. She gently dabbed at the mess of her fur with a wet washcloth until it looked somewhat presentable, then set her loose into her new home while glaring daggers at the old one, all cracked colorful plastic and reeking like it hadn't been cleaned since Sugar had been put in there.

The little one immediately scurried for proper food and water, and Delilah sat and watched in relaxed silence.

"I'm sorry you had to go through that. I'll make sure you never go through it again!" She declared, tossing the old cage into the trash with a rather victorious flourish.

Just like that, Sugar had earned a forever home - although Delilah found many of her charges new homes, she couldn't even consider it knowing that the dwarf could end up in a spot like that ever again. Better safe than sorry, even if her parents weren't the happiest to know that their home had grown by one more pet.

    name: dariyah "dar"
    gender: female
personality: dariya is open and fun. she laughs at everything, even the crummiest jokes. she takes insults and brushes them off. she likes to keep things easy and lighthearted, but she can deal with serious things, too. dar is loyal and trustworthy—you can tell her your deepest secret and she won’t let a word slip. she’s popular because of her past and because she’s willing to be friends with everybody. anyone is welcome sit at her lunch table and have a laugh with her. if you need to rant about something at four am, then don't hesitate to call her.
background story: “it’s never good enough for you, isn’t it? everything i do is all wrong, no matter what it is! i am sick and tired of being treated this way!” i shouted, hot tears pooling in my eyes.
my aunt, mabel, sighed dramatically and took a long puff of her cigarette. “dariya, you really need to learn how to calm down. you’re always crying about something or other and it’s annoying! honestly, after all i’ve done for you!” she responded. “god, this child is outrageous,” she muttered to herself.
i blinked away the tears and stormed off outside. i heard mabel shouting for me to get back there. i ignored her and started running. i wasn’t thinking of where i was gonna go, i just knew that i had to get away from the tall house where she lived. soon, i arrived at the forest. i sighed and entered. i adjusted my hair and continued walking through the thick trees. when i was convinced i got far enough, i sat down and leaned against a tree. thoughts rushed by in my head; thoughts of what i’m going to do now, thoughts of my hatred for my aunt, thoughts of frustration, and thoughts of tiredness. it was still morning, around eight a.m. or so. i stood and wandered around a bit, searching for somewhere i could stay for now. eventually i found something—a small shed made of driftwood. it looked like it had been abandoned for a while. there were some old blankets inside, along with a few cans. i checked the expiration date and found that all but one can of peaches had gone bad years ago. this shed must have been seriously old. conveniently, there was a slightly rusted can opener laying beside a couple empty cans. i decided to leave the peaches until i was really hungry and then left the shed.
i walked to the ocean and sat on the smooth, rocky shore. the day was warm with a cool breeze. as i looked out at the strikingly blue water, my mind was relaxed. there was not a thought in my head. sure, i'd have to think about how i would survive and where i'd stay sometime. but for now, for this moment, it didn't matter.

where is she now: it's difficult to think that dariya was in that situation with her aunt before. she's someone else entirely now. soon after she had run away from mabel, she sneaked onto a train headed to a city nearby. there, she found an old friend, juniper, she hadn't seen in years but was still very close to. dariya explained what happened, and juniper took her in. juniper had also taken off away from her guardians, and lived alone. she worked plenty of jobs that paid the rent for the luxury apartment. dariya had also begun to help when she moved in. juniper and her became closer yet, and dariya soon joined her at the high school. they got along quite well. juniper is kind of harsh and pretty much hates everything, and dariya is fun and playful. they bring out the best in each other, and are like sisters.
other than that, dariya is pretty basic. she spends most of her time hanging out with friends and chilling out. she enjoys waking up early (or staying up all night) just to watch the sunrises and drink green tea. her favorite possession is a simple pale pink notebook. she loves writing about her memories or short stories. she's tried her hand at poetry, but dariya is a horrible poet, so she's thrown that option out the seventy-second floor window. another beloved pastime is listening to music and learning all the lyrics to the songs she loves.
