Hawaiian Fact: The world's largest, and most active volcano is in Hawaii.
Story/art: Wanderer was born in a Native Hawaiian settlement. He was named for the a shooting star that flew above his home the night he was born. The star was the first light to touch Wanderer's body. As he grew older, the settlement was forced to move from a volcanic eruption. Wanderer unfortunately, was not brought with the settlement and remained where the natives once remained. Wanderer soon realized, he wasn't the only one left after the eruption. There were still hundreds of animals left behind, and one small boy. Wanderer took charge as the largest animal remaining and freed all the others. He ran through the night, breaking open fence gates, and kicking water buckets to try to slow the lava that was set on destroying the town. As Wanderer saved animals, he began to notice a pain in his side. He had received a mark in his skin for saving the others. First he felt the pain on his neck, then as he saved more, he felt more pain on his shoulder. Finally, Wanderer had saved all the other animals, and forced them to flee. He still had one more life to save. He had to find the young boy that was left behind. The lava was approaching faster than ever, and the heat was starting to singe his tail. No matter how fast he ran, the heat outran him. As he approached the boy, he felt searing pain on his hip, stopped, and looked back to see the damage. In the midst of turning back to check, his face was met with the same searing pain as his hip. He ran at the boy, threw his head under him and tossed him on his back. The two then traveled to safety across the nearby river that they hoped would halt the lava flow. Once the water of the river washed against Wanderer's body, the searing pain was gone and he could now see what had resulted from it. He found a new mark on his hip, darker than the rest of his coat, that looked EXACTLY like Hawaii. His face was now darker from the heat as well, but had no fascinating shape like his hip. After all the excitement of the lava, and the fleeing, Wanderer and the boy bedded down in the tall grass nearby the river, ready to run again at any moment. They awoke the next morning to find that the lava had stopped at the river like they hoped. The two then got up and began their new journey, to a flat meadow where they created their new lives. The boy grew up, and took care of Wanderer. Every few days, the two would journey out to look for civilization, and after weeks of searching, finally found some. From then on, the two would go back and forth from their meadow home to the town nearby for food and socializing. The boy wound up meeting a girl on one of their regular trips who happened to have a horse of her own. The two fell in love and she joined him out in the meadow, where they created a family together. Wanderer and the girl's horse grew old together and lived happily in the meadow, free of volcanic threats, and with food galore.
