All my life have I been cursed to stay in the ocean. No land, no nothing. And it is all my dads fault. I jumped on top of a boulder that I found in the ocean. I wasn’t thinking. I didn’t know where to put my anger but I had to put it somewhere. Just like that I was making waves like crazy. I was going to do it, I would have made a tsunami, but something stopped me. Out of now where I heard the voice of an old childhood friend. I let go of the huge wave anyways.

I have been a loner all my life. No place to go, no place to call home. My parents where killed when I was only young. Soon after I found out I was a pps. Now I wander the earth searching for destiny. I barely sleep. Now you may think for me winters are the worst, but actually it’s summer that kills me. The heat really does something to my fur. I feel like I melt every time I go outside. To make the matter even worse the ground is terribly hot. Outside for me truly is hell during summer.

I blinked my eyes open, confused on where I was. There were clouds, something that I haven’t seen before. A strange ray of heat beat down on my skin. It was warm, but where I just came from it was a lot warmer. Down on the floor of this planet lay a green substance. I slowly started to walk through it. It had a nice soft texture to it. The green coloration summed to be fading into a brownish color. Thus the leaves got hard. Though I wasn’t sure of it I was free, I know exactly how to redeem myself.

You know something is wrong when the forecast call for sun all day, yet it rains. It all started out like a normal day. The sun was bright and warm, so I went out by the pool to relax. I was sure that this weather would forever. But you should never get your hopes up. Out of the blue it started to rain I had no clue on what was happening. No Viscet that I know of can control weather. So this must be something else. Either the reporters were playing a trick or we have a much bigger problem.

It’s summer again! The time of the year when the weather is so very hot, but you know you can’t possibly stay indoors. The sun was so bright, I had to get away. I noticed from a distance some other animals taking cover under the trees. I couldn’t help it myself. I went up to a tree and laid down. The burning feeling of the sun disappeared and instead the cool feeling of the shade took over. I relaxed my body and became to soak it in. There was no way I would go back inside today. No possible way.

It was so hot. The sun was burning. So I did what any other normal Viscet would do. I went to the lake. The water was nice and cold. Perfect for a summer swim. Slowly I started walking around the lake. It was real cold. I needed to warm up, so I swam. Once my body got used to the temperature I was off doing my own things. Splashing and swimming, and of course my favorite doing laps. Though I wish it could have lasted forever. When the sun started going down the water got colder, I had to leave.

《 ➸ // the task bestowed upon me 》

Postby ✦ nemuri » Tue Jul 24, 2018 2:44 pm

    x
    indent
heat waves and droughts occurred often during the summertime in tsutaka, so it wasn't a huge surprise for kohaku when he learned that some of the crops were beginning to die of thirst and overexposure to the sun. however, he was still concerned; just how long was the drought going to last? as the land continues to grow dryer with each and every day, more crops will die, and less food will be stored for the winter season. most of the kingdoms depended on tsutaka for their crops and food, and if one kingdom falls, the other kingdoms will surely follow.

indent"it needs to rain soon... i should do a rain ceremony before the drought kills too many of the crops. would that be a good idea, though? there's a fine line between using the rain to revive the crops and using the rain to kill the same plants that i'm trying to heal," kohaku mumbled softly to himself, squatting slightly on the dry soil and absentmindedly tracing circles and runes into the dirt with his claws. when he looked down to observe his handiwork, the amber-eyed viscet's lip curled downwards slightly as he scuffed away the markings, before rising to his paws. he brushed the dust from the dry soil off of the fabric of his clothes, and with a loud sigh, he clasped his paws together.

indentkohaku had been ready to bend down in an attempt to breathe some life back into some of the crops that were on the verge of death, but upon hearing the loud, raucous "caw" of a crow, the ocelet patterned viscet raised his head curiously. crows were considered to be harbingers of death and an ill omen, but in some cases, crows can also represent the mysteries of life and life magic. he didn't know very many viscets who kept crows as familiars, but he was aware of how fond kaelin was of birds. kohaku reached for the letter attached to one of the crow's leg, feeling abnormally self conscious of the way the crow was staring at him.

indentshifting rather uncomfortably at the crow's piercing gaze on his back, kohaku quickly unraveled the small strip of parchment paper containing the message from kaelin, and started to read. from what kohaku could tell, it was a status report of sorts; some effort could be made in attempt to cultivate the sandy soil that made up most of the land in heiwasame, but even if the land was just right, there wouldn't be enough time for the crops to grow, and they're due to only become ripe during the middle of winter, when the snowstorms around the five kingdoms were the most vicious. apparently ryota, a viscet who sometimes worked with water magic, was on his way to tsutaka to help bring water to the crops. it was a relief for kohaku to hear that he wouldn't have to deal with this burden alone, but at the same time, he felt guilty that he had to drag another viscet into the mess. "if only i was strong enough to single handedly provide water to all of tsutaka. my ability to alter the weather would work, but i can't keep it up for too long, and there's absolutely no way to ensure that the rain will cover all of the kingdom."

indentshaking his head slightly, the amber-eyed viscet turned to face the crow. the jet-black feathered bird seemed just as impassive as before, and when kohaku let out a weary sigh and gestured for the crow to return back to heiwasame, the crow tilted its head and let out a shrill "caw". then, it took to the skies, and soon enough, it became a small black dot in the skies. kohaku twitched an ear slightly, and as he narrowed his eyes, he made his way over to his horse. mounting it quickly, he tugged lightly at the reins and directed the horse towards the east, where the capital city of tsutaka stood. "come on, now we have to wait for ryota to arrive..."

    indent---

indent"kohaku! sorry i'm late, kaelin gave me more trouble than he really needed to, and i nearly missed my ride. anyways, i'm here now; what should we do about this drought?" a viscet with a messy mane of hair commented, walking up towards kohaku just as the other viscet was finishing off his drink and was about to leave the bar. the amber-eyed male cocked his head curiously as ryota took a seat next to him and shifted around uncomfortably on the cushioned bar seat. "well, i suppose we can't do much right now; it's too dark to see clearly, and we'd be better of resting and replenishing our energy for tomorrow, no?"

indent"greetings, ryota. i'd like to say that i agree, but i don't. i'd rather that we get this done as soon as possible, especially now that the sun has set. if we manage to bring in some type of large rainstorm, then the coolness of the night coupled with the rain should do some good for the crops. this is a large scale drought we're talking about, after all; i'd rather drown the plants than let them thirst to death," kohaku murmured, taking another sip from his glass. he swirled his red wine slightly, but didn't down the entire drink; the amber-eyed viscet set the glass down after a short while, rubbing slightly at his eyes. he pursed his lips and tightened his hold on his glass, an action that didn't go unnoticed by ryota.

indent"well, if that's what you want, then we should probably do that, right? leave your drink behind; we should probably get going before it really gets too late." sliding on an easy grin onto his face, ryota nodded at the bartender standing nearby, and nudged kohaku's arm. the other viscet let out an annoyed grumble before standing up, his flushed face barely visible through his brown fur and the dim lighting in the bar. "geez, you're such a lightweight; why did you think that drinking before casting weather spells was a good idea, kohaku? well, whatever. take me to wherever you need to be, and i'll do my best to provide any assistance you need. i wasn't going to let you do everything before, and i'm definitely not going to let you do everything by yourself, especially since you've just consumed alcohol."

indent"i'm not that bad at holding my liquor, ryota. if anything, i bet kaelin is even worse than me," the ocelot patterned viscet protested loudly, before making his way towards the exit. ryota let out an exasperated snort as he followed behind, and kohaku shot the larger viscet an annoyed look, even though he knew that the other male probably wasn't paying attention. "you know that's true. anyways, back to the urgent matters on hand... at first, i was thinking of making our way to the central point of tsutaka in order to cast a large rainstorm over the kingdom, but i don't think we should do that. it'll take us a few day's worth of journeying to reach that precise point, and in addition to the fact that we simply don't have that much time, the amount of magical mana required is enormous, and if it's just the two of us working away at the rainstorm, then it could be dangerous for the both of us." kohaku coughed slightly, his amber eyes glazing over slightly as the effects of the red wine he had consumed earlier started to set in. ryota eyed the smaller viscet in concern, but kohaku straighted his spine and shook his head slightly. "i really shouldn't have gone to this bar. as i was saying, we shouldn't cast a large rainstorm, but rather make our way to the larger towns. i can cast rainstorms over a large town and several smaller villages that neighbour the town without too much trouble."

indenthowever, as kohaku finished speaking, he looked up to see a troubled expression on ryota's face. the taller viscet was frowning, and when he crossed his arms over his chest, he opened his mouth to speak. "are you sure that's the best course of action, kohaku? yes, we won't tire as easily, but we'd end up losing time by traveling, don't you think? of course, if you really think that this is the best way to go, then we should do that, but at the same time, we should also consider other methods from different viewpoints, if possible." he exited the bar, and as ryota held out his paw in front of him, a sphere of water began to form in the center. kohaku's amber eyes narrowed slightly, and the other viscet shrugged his shoulders.

indent"i've thought about it a lot already, so don't worry. i don't know if i ever mentioned it back in the bar, but the thing is, we're going to split up. i'll cover more fields and towns because my magic is more suited for larger areas, even though i cannot make rain fall on all of tsutaka. see if you can find a way to utilize the salt water to care for the fields near the ocean; we haven't found a way to separate the water from the sea salt yet, but since you're from heiwasame, you might be able to figure something out." kohaku flicked the tip of his tail as he trailed silently behind ryota, and the other viscet let out a sigh of resignation upon realizing that the ocelot patterned male wasn't going to change his mind anytime soon.

indent"alright then, i see. in that case, i can probably bring water to many of the fields close to the ocean. you're going to have to travel a lot to cover the areas that i can't go, however; by the time rain falls around this area, you'd better not have dropped dead in a ditch somewhere, you hear me? i can't believe that you're the only weather and purification mage to have passed the exams at the conservatory, but that must mean you're good. don't let us down," ryota called out, turning around to send a small wave in kohaku's direction. the amber-eyed male returned the gesture, and the larger viscet began making his way down the street, where he would soon reach a pier, and ryota continued to walk past the pier, many dried out fields would be awaiting him. kohaku was certain that the other male would be able to handle the task, and with that thought in mind, he started to make his way towards his horse.

indent"hey there, pal. the next few days is going to be pretty tough, but after we bring rain to the entirety of tsutaka, we can finally rest. the fact that we agreed to take this job means that this is now our duty to see our promises through, and i'm certain that you're strong enough for this. if you weren't, i wouldn't have picked you," kohaku mumbled softly, rubbing at his horse's snout tenderly. the horse let out a neighed softly in response, and when the ocelot patterned viscet mounted his horse and tightened his hold on his bag full of supplies, the horse remained still. once kohaku stopped fidgeting and sat still, he grabbed onto the reins, and the horse let out another neigh, indicating that it was ready to go.

    indent"alright, let's go!"

    indent---

indentas the gray clouds over kohaku's head opened up to release a torrent of raindrops, he pressed his ears against the skull of his head and dropped to his knees, panting softly. his arms trembled with exhaustion, and with a quick stroke, he quickly removed his dancing clothes and stashed them away into his bag to prevent them from getting dirtier than necessary. the water was effectively moisturizing the soil, turning the fields muddy with the rain, and although the amber-eyed viscet knew he should stand up and mount his horse in preparation for his next destination, he couldn't help but close his eyes and revel in the soothing rain. he had brought rain to many towns and villages, and although things were starting to look up, he knew he couldn't falter yet.

indenthe had heard from ryota earlier through a letter, and the other viscet had mentioned how he had watered all the fields, and would be standing by to take care of them, at least until the drought ended. while that was a good thing, kohaku couldn't help but feel slightly discouraged at the fact that he would have to continue using his limited stores of mana. however, he quickly shook his head and unsteadily stood up; there was no one else better suited for this job, and the ocelot patterned viscet wasn't about to let his home crumble into ruin just because he was too tired to continue healing the land.

indent"we're so close to finishing," he whispered softly, holding his paws towards the skies. he cupped his paws, and as rainwater gathered, kohaku let the water splash onto his face and fur. refreshed and energized by the cold water, the ocelot patterned male straightened up once more, and mounted his horse quickly. he sheltered his bag from the rain with his body as best as he could, and as he tightened his hold on his horse's reins once more, he let out a soft sigh. "i'm sorry to do this to you. come on, we have to get going again."

indentthe horse pawed at the ground impatiently, as if it wanted to run in the rain. kohaku blinked, slightly startled at the mannerisms of his horse, but as his expression gave way into a small smile, he let out a soft chuckle. "i see that you're eager to get going. that's good to hear. now, let's go!" kohaku tugged at the reins, and his horse immediately bolted into action. the ocelot patterned viscet let out a soft sigh at the work he still had to complete, but as he squeezed his legs against his horse's flank, the horse sped up ever so slightly, as though sensing kohaku's agitation. the journey would normally take up to a day or two of nonstop traveling, and that was when weather conditions were fair. in the rain, where everything was so much more slippery and dangerous, it would take longer. however, the small viscet didn't really mind; he quite enjoyed the rain, and the thought of helping and contributing to his kingdom put a smile on his face.

indenthe was fully aware of what sorts of troubles and challenges were lying in wait for him. although kohaku hated confrontation and was rather timid by nature, he was never the type to run away from his responsibilities. as such, he would continue to travel throughout the kingdom in order to bring rain to each region, in hopes of reviving the crops and brightening the futures of other viscets. it is difficult, but kohaku is ready.

Re: Viscet #2569

Postby Mint Chip » Tue Jul 24, 2018 2:46 pm

small note to the judges:
I have already won both of my event slots (x & x). So I cannot qualify for anymore wins. <3

"It's still raining..." A soft voice spoke, concern evident in her voice. The light colored viscet shifted where she was in her den, moving away from the rain pooling into the overhang that had become her temporary home. Tired eyes looking from the storm outside to the darker viscet near the back of the cave. She exhaled carefully before taking cautious steps over to him.

"I'm sure it'll let up soon," Her voice sounding certain as she tried to assure her traveling companion. They'd been traveling together for months, they'd both been stuck in several different storms throughout their journey in search of herbs and new remedies but none had lasted as long as this one. The tension in the darker male was almost visible, his posture didn't change in her words. The female lowered her ears, his stance told her it would be best if she left him alone so she did. She trotted carefully past him to the further side from him and slowly lowered herself down to rest. Her tail sweeping up beside her.

Patricia and Quill had met during a snow storm, their friendship had begun out of necessity. They shared their warmth with one another and after learning they were both herbal alchemists, it had just made sense for the two to stay together. As the time had passed the two had grown close, leaning on one another for support and enjoying the companionship. It had been so easy for Patricia to fall in love with Quill, even if he was rigid outwardly and sometimes rude. She thought she had gotten to know him closely in these past several months, Quill showing his softer side and his more loving side on numerous occasions.

But things had changed now, a lot of things had changed. It was as if there was a wall, something between the two of them that prevented Quill from wanting to be around her. Even before this particularly bad storm had forced them to seek shelter for weeks, things had changed. The way he looked at her wasn't even the same now. Patricia tried to push it to the side, resting as best she could with the storm raging outside. She had no way of knowing that inside a storm was raging all the same and nothing could shelter her from that.

It was growing dark when Patricia got back up. At some point, while she had been laying there, she had drifted off and in that time Quill had left out into the storm. She looked around panicked, scenting the air but knowing that he wasn't in the den. Her raised in worry as she stood at the entrance of the den, surveying the storm as lightning split the sky. She swallowed hard, afraid to step out, the rain pouring down in sheets so thick that she could only see a short distance in front of her. What if he's hurt? She couldn't just stay inside knowing there was a chance he could be hurt out there somewhere. Steeling her nerves, she forced herself out of the den, her paws unsteady making their way through the slippery, sludgy ground. The rain was cold, sending shivers down her body but she couldn't turn back, she had to find Quill.

Hours passed and there was still no reprieve from this storm, thunder rolled, shaking the earth as Patricia tried to pick her way through the storm. She tried scenting for Quill but with rain this heavy, there was no way she could pick up his scent. She called out for him as she had been for the last hour or so but the only response she got was the roar of thunder above. The longer she called, the more hoarse her voice was becoming and the more frantic she was. What if I don't find him in time? What if... he doesn't want to be found? That thought hurt but with how distance he had been from her recently, maybe that was what this was. She was exhausted from trudging through the mud and rain, her paws felt heavy and with this realization, she lost all her energy. She had been low on energy a lot recently but she equated that to the lack of hunting they'd been able to do since this storm had set in. They had survived on herbal mixes and dried fruit they had kept with them. But now she felt so drained, her body felt heavy and ached. She panted a bit, squinting as she tried to survey around for shelter until she had regained some of her energy.

There had been a large covering of dense trees that she could vaguely make out through the rain. That will have to do. She told herself as she forced herself to walk again, her body telling her she had to find shelter quickly. When she stepped into the dense forest she shook out her fur, shivering from the cold as she still panted, heaving heavier breathes. She felt the urge to lie down but she couldn't yet, she searched around a moment before finding a smaller tree. She leaned up and grabbed a low hanging branch, pulling it down so it arched over and created a proper covering from the smaller rain still getting through the tree coverage. She winced as she felt a pain shoot through her body but she kept working. She quickly collected bundles of leaves that were mostly dry to make a bedding before she couldn't stand to move or stand any longer. Her breathing had increased, she didn't know what was wrong and it scared her. But as time passed she began to understand, everything began to make sense.

In a few hours time, the storm finally began to ebb and Patricia had the answer to why she had felt so drained, why things had changed, and why she had felt different. She had been expecting unknowingly. Her white and green fur ruffled from some strain but she had managed it all on her own and now she had the most beautiful egg by her side. Her soft pink eyes looking at the egg lovingly, it had been tough and she was still scared, but things would be okay. She knew they would, even if she had to do it all alone.

    ___________________

In the meanwhile, the dark viscet had been pushing his way through the slippery terrain. He looked back once, thinking about what he was doing for a moment before turning back. He couldn't go back, it was time for him to move on and go home. I'm not ready for that sort of responsibility. He thought simply. The storm that had broke where Patricia was, was still raging in the direction Quill was headed. It was as if the storm was following him, this made his trek all the harder and his nights a lot lonelier. Still, he refused to turn around, he refused to go back to her and apologize.

Quill had known she was different for a while. He knew the scent and could see all the tell-tale signs that she was expecting. Worst still, he knew it was his and that he wouldn't be able to roam freely, without commitment. This had made him temperamental towards Patricia more than he normally ever would be. It scared him and rather than admitting it, he became hostile and resentful towards her. It was right, Quill knew, which is why he finally decided he'd pack up and leave. She wouldn't be able to follow him and he would be able to continue on as he had before he met her, or so he thought.

The longer he traveled, the more he thought about her and worried about her. He had left her in a dangerous time, she wouldn't be able to hunt with an egg to watch after all. But every time he considered going back, he reminded himself that this wasn't what he wanted. But was it? He didn't know but he knew if he distanced himself far enough from her that he'd eventually move on.

When Quill arrived back in his old home it had finally stopped storming. He made a few stops in town before heading to visit his old mentor. Farley had been surprised to see him, the last time he had seen Quill was before he and Nereida had their first child, Amalthea. A lot had changed since then, so there was a lot to talk about and catch up on. Farley took Quill down to the nearby lake to sit and talk for a while.

"Seems like a lot had happened for you since I left," Quill commented as he sat back the water side.

"It's been wonderful honestly, I love my girls," Farley replied with a smile. He really did seem very happy to be a father.

"Guess you don't have time anymore to be an alchemist huh?" Quill said quietly.

Farley scoffed, "Are you kidding?" That had startled Quill, which made Farley chuckle. "I have plenty of time to be an alchemist. My sweet, Nereida knows I still have to collect herbs and take care of our village. None of that has changed, I just have more to come home to."

Quill looked uncertain. More to come home to huh? His mind thought back about Patricia, his guilt beginning to show through.

"Quill?" Farley twitched an ear as he tilted his head, "Something the matter?"

"Oh no, nothing," Quill replied quickly, trying to brush it off.

Farley didn't buy it but he didn't press just yet, instead, he leaned back and looked to the sky. "You know, I don't miss anything from when I was still single."

"Really?" Quill questioned, he didn't know if he believed that. "I can't imagine not missing anything."

"Well, I certainly don't miss the loneliness or not having someone to rely on, to share the burden." Farley pointed out, eyeing Quill carefully. He was gauging his reaction carefully.

Quill lowered his ears, he thought about that quietly, He's not wrong. It has been a lot lonelier.

After a few minutes of silence, Farley spoke again. "Quill, what have you done?"

This question surprised Quill. At first, he was defensive, questioning what that was supposed to mean but when Farley's expression became more stern he knew he couldn't keep it too himself.

"There was a girl I was with for a while," Quill sighed, "And I... left her."

"Left her? Did you love her?" Farley questioned quietly.

"What's it matter? I left." Quill replied with a snort.

Farley shook his head, "How long are you going to lie to yourself, son?"

Quill huffed a moment, grumbling that he wasn't lying to himself. She's better off or at least probably is. He lashed his tail in annoyance when Farley kept his gaze on him still. "I'm not ready."

Farley looked at him confused a moment, his large ears shifting to show it. "For what? A relationship?"

    "No." Quill snapped.

This concerned Farley, he narrowed his gaze. "What then?"

Quill didn't like that look, he growled a little in annoyance. "I'm not having this conversation with you." He replied sharply as he stood to his feet. He started to walk off when Farley grabbed his arm. "Let go, Farley."

"No," Farley said flatly as he stood to his paws. There was an anger there that was rare for him to show. Farley was a laid-back sort of viscet, he rarely showed aggression but Quill had pushed this too far. He knew what he was running from and he wasn't about to let him just walk away from this.

"Let. Go." Quill snapped, trying to jerk his arm from Farley's grasp to no avail. He turned to face him, but seeing the disappointment and anger in his mentor's gaze made him stop. "Please, I'm not ready. I can't."

"You should have been." Farley replied flatly, "Sounds like you knew for a while."

Quill flattened his ears to his skull. Farley was right, he should have been. He had known about it a long time, in fact, he had fed Patricia some unsafe herbs in hopes that it would cause her to miscarry the egg. He felt disgusted with himself thinking about it now but that didn't change what he had done. Oh gods, what if that egg hatches and the viscling inside in stillborn because of those herbs. He couldn't imagine the sort of grief this could cause her, and she's alone.

"You need to go to her, Quill. You need to make this right." Farley told him gently, "You'll never be able to live with yourself if you don't."

Quill was hesitant, how could anything I say or do make this right? But he knew staying away would never fix what he'd done either. He nodded slowly, feeling his mentor release his arm and then pull him into a hug.

The two discussed that Quill would stay the night, rest and then the following morning leave back out to find this girl he'd left behind. The following morning, he had set out to try to mend what he'd broken and messed up. The journey was long and another storm was brewing on the horizon but he was determined to find Patricia and try his best to make things right.

"A hundred, thousand, different locations and you decide to take us to the most temperate rain forest of all of Auwei."

Armitage is scowling, very obviously. There's mud up to his knees and he's disgusted with the squelching of muck and mud at the bottom of his boots. His toes absolutely curl at the feeling and he has to admit to himself, it's taken a lot of self restraint to keep from whimpering pathetically behind his more than joyful mate. When Kylo had suggested a couple's summer vacation, Armitage thought for certain that he was going to be pampered and primped at some fancy retreat. Not mucking through bogs and camping out in bug infested clearings of the forest. Needless to say, the hardened military officer was very swiftly turning into a whining and complaining mess the further they trekked into the unknown.

"I thought you'd have fun exploring, General." Kylo tosses over his shoulder, and Armitage doesn't have to see it to know that his mate is grinning from ear to ear. Armitage, in retrospect, is pleased whenever his mate is. To see Kylo smiling, and happy, and having fun brought some joy to the stoic male's life-- not that he would ever really openly show it, but Kylo needed to let loose more often. He was still a child, all things considered - he hadn't really had the option, to his knowledge, to really be a proper child. Not that he had himself either, but he had accepted this long ago and it was far too late for him to change now. Armitage would forever be a stoic, strict, and calculating General. Only softened in private by his mate and their child, and even then he rarely smiled.

He had looked forward to this vacation, and he was exceedingly disappointed, but being with Kylo made it worth it.

"I'd have more fun getting a shiatsu massage and sipping pina coladas by the pool side." The ginger grumbles, nearly toppling forward as one of his boots gets stuck in the muck. He grits his fangs, reaching back to try and physically tug his foot free. Thank Ugin that his boots were custom made for him-- the threat of having them slip off and stuck in the muck forever was out of the question at least. "I'd have more fun in the sun, Kylo. And I hate the sun. But this forest is far too muggy, look at my hair."

He's all but growling now, finally wrestling his leg free and stepping comically forward in an elaborate flail. Kylo merely glances over his shoulder, but it's enough of a look for Armitage to drive his point home with over dramatics. Both paws pointing to his limp mane, longer strands sticking to his face and other strands falling loosely about his jaw. Kylo dares smile adoringly at the look of his mate, and Armitage bares his fangs in response. How dare he be adorable and loving while his mate is clearly having a crisis!

They continue on in silence for a few minutes, Armitage frowning all the while as he follows along behind his mate, but when Kylo stops dead in his tracks the orange haired officer hardly has time to stop himself before he's thumping into the back of the stockier male.

"What now?" The ginger growls-- their height difference isn't much, perhaps an inch or two, but Kylo always makes Armitage feel small. He peers around the others shoulder like a child peeking behind his father's legs, bright blues gazing at the sight before him. There isn't anything there aside from more bog and gigantic leaves of the tree canopy. Kylo, however, appears tense. Armitage had never been able to read Kylo's emotions the same way his mate could read his own. He wasn't privy to the bigger male's parlor tricks, but he had learned to begrudgingly accept them-- it made things exceedingly frustrating, however, when Kylo refused to answer his questions and Armitage was left wondering. His voice falters into a harsh whisper. "Kylo. What. Is it."

His answer is the loud cracking sound of branches parting, the giant leaves shifting and falling at the pressure suddenly pressed upon them. A waterfall of thick rain drops showered down, and Armitage only manages a yelp before he's drenched to the bone in seconds. Kylo is shuddering, and the General wonders if it's because of the change in temperature, but he realises very soon after that Kylo is laughing, especially at his mate's misfortune. Armitage is yelling now over the roar of the rain, ears slicked back in obvious upset as he tries to trek forward through the muck that was getting looser by the second.

Kylo opts for simply lifting his mate and carrying him instead.

The rain is warm and sticky, and Armitage is soaked straight through to the bone at this point. They catch each other's gaze after they're under the thickness of more leaves - Kylo didn't have to be a mind reader to know that his mate was the most upset he'd been in years.

--Libra and Soma planning, they decide to send Soma to kill/injure Gi and start the great storm

He stood on that peak, gazing over the land as smoke pillars rose to the air. The battle was over, and though he had won, he could not find excitement in his heart. It was as though he knew something were missing, some opportunity which was just beyond his grasp.

    "Libra."

He did not turn to greet her or even acknowledge her as she approached, but she still knew that he wanted her to speak.

"The battle is won. Many of theirs have fallen and they have retreated back to the East. Would you like us to pursue?"

"No." His voice was dark and cold. His mind was a turmoil, but his exterior was stone.

"Libra. . . We shouldn't waste time. They are wounded, so why not strike? We could send in our forces, perhaps even just kill their medics. Leave them helpless and wounded and let disparity set in."

    "No."

Soma frowned at her leader, not understanding his thought process. Libra did not have a look of mercy, but one of malice. He wanted them dead, yet refused her offers to do it for him.

Slowly, his eyes turned to the sky. "It's a lovely day, is it not?"

Soma frowned and followed his gaze. Above, the sky was a clear blue, not a cloud in sight with the sun shimmering brightly above. It was a classical summer day, the weather perfect for swimming but not for a hike. "I suppose so, but-"

"Honestly, though, I've always preferred storms. Their unpredictability, the destruction that they can cause. . . it is wonderful. It is something that even my power cannot do, cannot interfere with. The storms brought about by nature are truly the strongest weapon." He turned his head to face her, his eyes studying her expression. "Would you agree?"

Soma watched him, confused but trying to solve his riddle. "Yes. . . Storms are truly the most powerful weapon. We've been trying to harness them for years, but each time was a failure."

"Yes, each time was a failure indeed. Either the machine was fried, the subject was killed, or the storm simply slipped away. However. . . We may have been blind to our true solution to gathering a storm all along." He turned his eyes back over the cliff, his gaze resting on the distant Eastern mountain range. "Have you heard the tale of Akiko?"

Soma nodded slowly, following his gaze. "Yes, I believe so. She is the viscet whose emotions are tied in with the weather, is she not? She caused that great storm. . ." Her voice drifted as realization slowly struck.

"She caused the great storm that turned the East into a wasteland after her mother-figure died. Since then, she has lived alone in those mountains." His eyes suddenly shinned. It was that shimmer that came to him when knowledge led him to a new solution, when he knew he had outsmarted his foe. "However, she is not actually alone."

Soma frowned. "What do you mean?"

"A viscet named Gi traveled to those mountains long ago and never came back. No one thought much of it, some said he had died." Slowly, Libra's gaze rested upon Soma. "However, a few months after he arrived, Allaster came to this world."

    Soma's ears flicked up. "So you're saying. . ."

"Gi is alive. More importantly, Akiko has fallen in love again."

Soma's eyes sparked with fire. "I think I understand now." Libra nodded, urging her to continue as he looked back to the mountains. "Akiko is going to be our storm."

Libra nodded. "Summer weather can be so finicky. Even a small drop of blood can cause a rainstorm." He turned away, walking past Soma. As he passed her, he paused and placed a paw on her shoulder. "So how about we see what a rush of blood can do?"

He walked away, leaving Soma on the peak of the mountain, a smile steadily growing on her face.
