Story:
Today was not our day, we walked outside and saw the dark clouds forming above. A storm was coming and it was coming in fairly quickly. Reinforcements would have to be done to the den to keep from collapses and weakening of the walls.
“Well, looks like we should get to work before the storm comes huh Croc?”
Croc groaned at the idea of work as Nile slid into the water to start gathering up some logs to use as structure for the cave. Swimming came naturally to Nile as she weaved her way through the swamp water. Croc wavered behind her, floating on the surface like he enjoyed to do when she swam. That was after all how he had gotten his name of Croc. Nile dove under the water to avoid a low hanging branch on the water’s surface and when she came back up, she noticed a large clump of branches all floating together.
“Perfect!” Nile swam over and began to collect some branches, handing some to Croc to hold in his mouth before making her way back to the cave. She swam towards the bank of the swamp where there was a fairly large hill next to the water before diving down. A few feet down was an opening in the bank that had been stabilized by many rocks surrounding it, holding it together like an archway. She swam into the opening and down a short tunnel that led up into a cave where she lived. She climbed from the water into the cave and shook her fur off before starting to connect the branches together to make proper framework to add to her already existing structure.
Nile preferred the water over land so she thought it was proper that she had a cave entrance from the water instead of on land. She of course had a secondary entrance in case something went wrong but it was blocked up with a large rock to prevent intruders. She reinforced the walls and ceiling of her cave before starting basic care of her cave, cleaning out the mud from the floor and replacing stones in some places. A lot of what she had built relied on nearby trees to hold the soil above her in place so she went back out to make sure the trees seemed structural before the rain began.
Once the trees were inspected to Nile’s desire, with lots of groaning from Croc as she took forever, Nile returned to the cave to insure that the structure looked secure. As she was adjusting one of the logs, she heard the boom of thunder crash overhead and the start of the rain. She settled in to read while the storm boomed overhead and Croc took nap, exhausted from the day of watching Nile look at stuff.

Their relaxing afternoon however took a turn for worse when they heard a loud crash and felt the ground rumble from a great force. She dove down the tunnel and into the swamp to take a look and see what had happened. She surfaced and climbed the bank carefully to see that a tree, not one of her trees, had snapped in half and was laying on the ground. She moved through the mud to see if it had caused a lot of damage when she noticed a shape under the trunk of the tree.
“Oh my god, Croc! Someone is under there!” Nile gasped as she rushed over.
Croc seemed to shrug a bit as if saying who cares and Nile glared at them as she reached the fallen tree. The viscet was unconscious and Nile grabbed the trunk, “Help me lift this Croc!”
Croc didn’t move and Nile looked at them with narrowed eyes, “For once in your life Croc, could you not be lazy and stubborn?”
If Croc truly had eyes, Nile was sure they would have rolled them before grasping the trunk in their mouth and helping to pull it off the injured viscet. She carefully lifted the viscet to be propped up against her and half carried, half dragged them back to her cave, using the secondary entrance as she didn’t feel like dragging them through the water. She rested them on her bedding and removed their scarf to treat any wounds they had and then left them to sleep.
The viscet woke later one and sat up quickly, before holding their head and groaning in pain. Nile stood and sighed, “Take it easy. You are all right.”
The laid back down and looked at Nile cautiously, “Where am I?” Suddenly they panicked and touched their neck, “Where is my scarf??”
Nile was shocked at their reaction and nodded to where she had hung their scarf to dry off. They looked at her, “I need it! I need my scarf!”
Nile handed them the scarf and they wrapped it around their neck, nuzzling into the fabric for comfort, “I’m sorry. Someone important gave me this scarf and I can’t lose it.”
Nile nodded, “its ok. But you are safe here. I found you outside in the storm. You got trapped under a tree…”
The viscet looked surprised, “Oh. Well thank you for saving me, um I don’t know your name.”
Nile blushed, “Oh, forgive me, I am Nile and this is Croc.”
The viscet looked confused, “Your tail has a name?”
“Well they deserve a name for the amount of attitude they give me,” Nile shot Croc a look and Croc gave another shrug, “what’s your name?”
“Oh, I am Turq.” He replied quietly and Nile smiled.
“Well, Turq, you rest here as long as you need!”
Nile enjoyed the company of Turq, it had been a long time since she had anyone other than Croc for socializing. While he recovered, she was able to learn more about what was going on outside of the small swamp she lived in. Before long, it was time for Turq to leave and Nile was disappointed to be losing her companion.
"No worries Nile, I am not too far away and will always visit!" Turq smiled at her and she blushed a bit as he had read her mind.
"That's good to hear. You are more than welcome to come in, and feel free to use either entrance!" Nile laughed and he chuckled as well.
"I will probably use the land one. I am unsure about how well I will do with the underwater one," Turq smiled and waved before leaving, Nile and her tail with an attitude, Croc.
