“I’ve never had a real ‘best friend.’ I’ve had a couple school friends here and there, but outside of school I didn’t really have anyone. There... well, now... now I might have one. We only met a few weeks ago, but I can already see we will get along great. Maybe he will become my first best friend... His name is Onyx, and he is a lot like me. Its like someone dumped a bit of broken, a pinch of sociopathy, some body dysphoria, a cup of disaster, and forgot to put in the self-esteem, then mixed it all up and split it into two to make us. He lives in a forest, which is pretty cool... though he did burn down a different forest. I mean he did swear it was an accident, so I don’t hold really it against him. Accidents happen you know? Some are just… bigger than others. We actually met in the forest that he lives in. I was frustrated with life and ran into the forest hoping I could sort out my problems when I saw his tree-house and thought it was abandoned, so I went in, which freaked him out a little. I apologized and a conversation sparked somehow. We talked a bit, and I dunno- we just hit it off well. And now here we are. I’ve visited him a few times more and… I really like being around him. We have a lot of similarities in our past and in our present lives we can discuss after all.”

tell me about their best friend: When it comes to Reed's best friend, its a bit of a toss up between Ora and Luken, but for the time being the title probably belongs to Ora. He loves hanging out with Ora, as she knows loads of cool places to go to, can get them into almost anywhere, and is always ready to just go somewhere should he ask what she's up to. Not only that but they always seem to have a good time with whatever they're doing, unless it's sweeping her dad's pawn shop. If he's irritated or hung over he'll stop his daughter from leaving and bark at Reed to pick a broom and help her finish her chores before Ora's allowed to leave. Which isn't all to bad being that Ora can make even the most menial tasks, such as dusting, somewhat fun. Their conversations never really seem to go very deep but are almost always lively and meaningful. Truth be told... he actually has a bit of a crush on her.

tell me about their best friend: Artemis' best friend is his roomate- a botanist who specializes in carnivorous plants, and with Artmeis being a lichenologist- viscet who studies lichens, they often get into friendly spats about the superior organism. Samples will be 'graffitied', which simply means a post-it or index card reading something along the lines of 'inferior' is left near a specific sample. Occasionally a small pedestal will be built for one of the plants or lichens, or perhaps one of the less important samples will be left in the others room as a gift. Although, Artemis' personal favorite prank was the time he left for a month to collect and study lichens in the tundra, and came back to find the floor of his room made up of several low-sitting tubs filled with venus flytraps and common pitcher plants. As well as many, many bugs.

honestly, the lil story made me chuckle out loud. i play pranks on my best friend/other half james. as well! i had a venus flytrap once-- we always have a phase of summer where fruit flies are endless, so it was a happy camper for sure! ( sorry Artemis-- i quite enjoy carnivorous plants a little more personally (; )
