OᑎᑕE ᗩ KIᗪRunway stretched her limbs as she hopped out of bed from her nap in her over sized pajamas. She scampered down the hall, opened the door to her parents room and crawled over the sheets.
"Hm sweetie?" a thick but soothing voice answered.
"Is it time?" Her dad rolled, checking his alarm clock. He rubbed his face and pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Arg, yah. I guess its time." Runway cheered, jumped off the bed, happy dance.
"Go on honey," her mother said, voice sounding like a harp. "You did promise." She gave a reassuring kiss to his cheek.
"Ewww daaaaad come on!!" Runway said, crossing her arms, stamping her foot. The two parents mumbled words then let out a chuckle.
"Alright Jet," he said, giving her common nickname. "I'll be ready in a bit." Runway went to their couch, kicking her legs back and forth. After a few minutes, her dad came out with a gentle smile.
"Kid you ready?" he asked, gesturing to her pjs. Runway looked embarrassed. She was so excited she forgot to change. Her dad shook his head chuckling. "Its alright, you can come as you are, no one gonna be around." He lead her outside, going into their corn field, the leaves crunching under their paws between the silence. It was just about dusk, the sun almost gone.
"Are we there yet?" Jet asked. Her father didn't answer, which Runway understood. Finally after a few more steps they made it to the clearing in the middle. It was a circle of grass surrounded by cornstalks. Her father made this just for her to enjoy. They sat on the smooth, soft grass, her dad bring out glass jars out from his back pocket, handing her one.
"You ready?" He asked, Runway nodded rapidly. The sun began to disappear. "Get ready.." The sun was gone, darkness began to set in. "Set..." Runway crouched, looking left and right with a sly grin. Darkness took over the sky, and it became alive. The stars were bright and the moon full. "Take off!" he father laughed as Runway jumped in the air, running around the circle to catch the fireflies that began to take flight. She giggled and laughed as the yellow sparks flew around her. After a while she got tired and began to slow her pace, looking in her jar to see how much she caught. It was enough to light up the jar, and she locked her gaze on them, mesmerized. "Ready?" Her father asked. She nodded, unscrewing the cap to let the bugs go. They flew out slowly, and dispersed into the night along with their friends. Runway and her father watched the night for a bit, enjoying the cricket's song and the show of the lightning bugs before Runway let out a yawn. Her father picked her up in his arms and began to head back. She began to close her eyes, the yellow blending with the black, then, all black. ~*
"RUNWAY!" the teacher squawked, Runway blinked then shuttered awake, other Viscetlings laughing. "Pay attention!" As the teacher went back to the board, she looked outside the window. On the outside bottom corner, was a firefly.
