“Ah, hello! So I hear you wish to get to know me a bit? Come, I’ll make some tea. Did Hunter send you over, or were you just making conversation? Either way, welcome. My name is Abuto, but I’m sure you already know that. Here’s a few things you should know about me!”
Abuto is a kind soul; he spends his days lying in the sun if he can, and when he isn’t he can usually be found with Hunter. After a few weeks in the camp, he and Hunter became very close. Hunter regularly joins Abuto on his morning walks through the forest and while gathering plants and herbs. The pair eat together on most days and chat throughout the day, though most of Abuto’s words are silent. Abuto isn’t sure what he feels towards Hunter, but knows he considers the other male closer than anyone else, possibly even more so than Chronos. It doesn’t help that Hunter is a flirt and always wanting attention from everyone, but Abuto knows it isn’t towards him specifically.
Probably.
Once a month, more if necessary, Abuto takes a trip back to Spirit Tree to visit with his old mentor, Chronos, and to take in energy from the Tree to strengthen his alchemy, which he had gotten quite good at over time. He usually stayed with Chronos the whole day when he visited, much to Hunter’s pleads; the two chatted about life and improvements to medicines and techniques, as well as advice from both sides. Chronos always had gifts waiting for Abuto upon his arrival, but the latter hesitated to accept them. Sometimes Hunter would join as well, making some lame excuse to stay with his friend.
Since joining Hunter’s pack, Abuto has become quite laid back and content. His mind still wanders to his younger days of making crafts from trash, and wonders how he ever managed to survive. Sometimes Abuto will test his old skills, weaving baskets from twigs and grass or making sculptures from mud, much to the rest of the packs amazement. He still enjoyed creating pieces he found, but nowhere near as much. They no longer felt forced, but rather a hassle altogether that he enjoyed in an odd sort of way.
Abuto is gentle with all who come across him, be it friend or enemy. Much like Chronos, Abuto finds it difficult to take a side in the war against Luken, seeing it from a medical standpoint it
is intriguing in a way, though he would never dare take it to such a level as Luken has. Abuto cares for all who need it and come to him, offering them treatment and a deep conversation about life. Having a lot of time on his hands has made Abuto into a sort of deep thinker, offering life advice to young and old.
He enjoys tea, but only if brewed himself. Something about the satisfaction of making something for himself makes the tea taste sweeter, even though Hunter tries his best to impress him. Abuto and Hunter gather the leaves and berries while out gathering herbs and plants in the morning, and Abuto has to make enough to last throughout the day- it has grown quite popular among the other pack mates!

Relationship to Shiki wrote:King Nanashi is a good guy. He has a lot of enemies, but stands tall and sticks to his word. Whether it was random chance and he was actually interested in me, or he was just cleaning up his city streets I'l never truly know, but I'm so glad he took me in. It's impossible for me to express how thankful I really am for the King, he was the father figure that I never knew I needed. I just wish it didn't end up how it did. Even though we were close, not to mention I was one of very few Viscets the King actually talked with and trusted, I wish I could have gotten to know him more. I would have loved to spend my life in the Castle, had it not become a problem in the end.
Relationship to Chronos wrote:Chronos... What a difficult guy he is. I came across him by accident shortly after I had left the Castle, though now I think it was fate. I almost mistook him for a shadow, had I not noticed the glinting eyes carefully watching me. He doesn't speak much, but actions are louder than words.
In his case, I actually prefer his actions. Chronos always spoke in riddles, and I... Well, I'm not one for deciphering codes and hidden meanings. I admire his lifestyle and how dedicated he is, and look up to him as a friend and as a mentor. He took me under his wing for several months and taught me everything he knows, and then some. I enjoy his company and chat with him fairly often when I make trips to Spirit Tree. He's rather reclusive and moving around a lot more than usual, but that's understandable given the circumstances at hand.
Relationship to Hunter wrote:Ah, Hunter... Where do I start with him? He's the brother I never had, and I can't express how grateful I am for bringing me into his pack. We don't always get along, but we both know that it's not out of hate or anything of that sort, but rather of being too similar to one another. Hunter takes everything onto his own shoulders, and it hurts seeing him be so weighed down some times. It's times like that when I'm glad we're so close to one another, when I can comfort him and tell him that everything will be okay, even if he doesn't believe me I'm still relieved when his shoulders drop in the slightest way at my words.
We do a lot together; anything from gathering herbs, patrolling the area, or just lounging around. We just enjoy each others company, I don't know what I would do without him now.
Relationship to Kozmotis wrote:Kozmotis... She came to us as a complete surprise.
Nobody expected her to stay long, but now the pack would seem strange without her. She doesn't say much, but when she does it's usually clouded and distant, as if she's detached from the world itself. I understand her, in a strange sort of way. I change her bandage in the mornings, even though she insists she doesn't need help. There's always a glint in her eye, a silent
thank you I'm guessing. For as much as she complains about me, she sticks around quite a bit. "For your tea," she insists, but I think she enjoys my company, even though she will never actually admit it. It's... relaxing, in an odd word of way. We often lay in the sun and silently observe our surroundings, enjoying a moment of peace together.
Relationship to Rune wrote:Gosh, Rune... She's always picking fights with everyone in camp, and I'm usually the one who has to pick her up and move her into her time out corner. She's figured out where I keep my herbs and plants, and thinks it's funny to hide them or misplace them every now and again when she thinks I'm not looking.
Sigh. She's a handful, but we're very close. We have a father-daughter relationship, and I think it's safe to say that Rune considers me to be her best friend. On her
better days, she will shadow me and brag about her herb mixing being better than mine, despite her never actually practicing a day in her life. And don't get me started on her
sass and
snarky comments. She's going to be a strong member of the pack once she grows older, Luken better be ready for a tough fight, mentally and physically.
I wandered down the familiar path, excited for what the day had promised; daybreak still an hour off as dew clung to plants as I stepped around them, my feet felt moist. It was an uncomfortable feeling to me, but I paid no mind to it. I felt the strong sense of life coming from just ahead, and I picked up my pace just a bit. I stepped into the clearing, overwhelmed by the Trees presence once more. I slowly walked over to it and placed my paws and nose against it and closed my eyes, feeling the surge of life through my very being. I opened my eyes and stepped away, glancing around the dark clearing. My eyes hovered for a second before I caught sight of a shadow that was almost
too dark. I smiled to the figure, and I heard my old mentor's voice call out to me in a warm greeting, "Welcome back, Songbird."

"Abuuutoooooooo! Get
up! It's getting late!" My ears twitched at the high pitched voice most likely standing over me. I blinked open my eyes to see none other than the small daughter of Kozmotis, Rune, as well as noticed that contrary to that the young female was claiming, the sun had hardly risen. I grumbled and rolled over, but she followed. "Does it have to be
now?" She playfully nipped at my fur and jumped onto my slowly waking body. "You promised!" was her only response. I let out a heavy sigh and sat up, sliding Rune off and onto the ground.
Rune had come as a surprise to everyone in the pack. Nobody really knows where she came from or how she came to be, but Spirit Tree gave little answers. A God in the heavens above, Ugin, no...
Chronos now, saw Kozmotis' efforts to change for the better, and gifted her with a daughter who possessed traits of the exiled God himself. Rune hatched quickly, and has grown strong over a few years. With Hunter and Kozmotis busy gathering information and formulating a plan of attack against Luken, I,
unfortunately was left with the task of babysitting the small Viscetling. So, as a result, became the unwilling father. She was unusual, though... seeming to possess unusual abilities similar to my own alchemy.
Magic? Only time will tell.
Perhaps I should take her to Spirit Tree to meet with Chronos...Sharp teeth nipping at my fur reminded me of what the small Viscet wanted in the first place. I stood and began to walk across the clearing with Rune excitedly bouncing behind. I hesitantly promised to take her on my morning walk to collect herbs and plants, still afraid that she would make the rest of the day rather unproductive as she tends to play tricks whenever she can. As we stepped out of camp, Rune raced ahead of me, calling something over her shoulder. "Wait!" I hurried after her, worried about her unknowingly crushing valuable plants. But to my surprise, she was heading in a seemingly random direction. No... I know all to well where she's running to.
So she feels it too.As I caught to Rune, she stood on the all too familiar path, her eyes wide. "Abuto... What is this place?" I laughed, beginning to understand the situation. "This isn't funny! I feel strange... Why do I feel this way all of a sudden?" She turned sharply, looking up at me with pleading eyes, a hint of fear hazed in her pretty eyes. I picked her up and placed her on my back, speaking softly back to her, "It's alright. There's nothing scary here". I felt her nod into my mane, and I slowly walked down the path towards Spirit Tree. Upon stepping into the familiar clearing, Rune stumbled off and ran straight to the mighty tree, ducking and weaving her way through the roots that jutted out of the earth. She disappeared into Chronos' den, and I sat in a sunny spot near by, waiting for my old mentor to reappear with the Viscetling.
As if on cue, the dark tailless Viscet appeared from the den, carrying the Viscetling by her scruff. He didn't seem happy, but he didn't seem upset either. He glanced over at me and spoke, "So you came." I nodded, not surprised that he knew something about this encounter. If Rune felt the Tree's spirits and energy pulling at her, then Chronos must have been shown. He handed me the now struggling Viscetling and brushed his dark coat free of any dust. "So this is the child the Heavens blessed." I tilted my head but said nothing, Rune remained uncharacteristically silent as well. "Welcome, Rune." My mentor bent down to look at the small Viscet at eye level. Rune twisted in my grip, not wanting to look at the stranger. I had several questions running through my mind, and I carefully asked my old mentor what was on my mind. "So you knew about Rune?" The other male chuckled lowly, "The child born from the God Chronos himself. Yes, I have been warned." I tilted my head in confusion, but Chronos continued, "Perhaps even the Heavens are against Luken. Rune was sent to... even the playing field a bit."
Rune struggled out of my grip and padded around the clearing, sniffing the odd scents here and there. Chronos leaned closer to me and whispered so Rune wouldn't hear, "Do you know yet?" I pulled away, confusion evident in my eyes and the dark Viscet sighed. "She's not who you think she is." I murmured back, my voice came out harsher than I wanted it to, "I know
exactly who she is, Chronos. I raised her. What do I not know about-" I was silenced by Rune's voice, it was distant, but when I looked up she was close to the Tree. "I... I've been here before." I gasped, not comprehending what was happening. I looked to Chronos for answers, but he just had that calm smile across his face, his features said it all.
I told you so."I don't think so-" I hurried over to stand behind her, but she cut me off in her all-too-familiar snarky tone, "I
have." Without warning, Rune stepped up to the Tree and pressed her forehead against it. As she did, the stars on her pelt began to glow faintly, visible even in the light of the midday sun.
Speaking of which, by now the sun was almost directly overhead. I sighed inwardly, realizing that I wasn't going to get anything productive done today after all. I was startled as Rune jumped up, eyes wild. "Rune?" I called out, but she wasn't listening. She looked to the Tree, then down at her paws, then back to the Tree. "She's been shown her powers," Chronos commented, taking a seat beside me, eyes carefully watching Rune. "But she doesn't know where they begin." My fur pricked uncomfortably at Chronos' implication. "I'm not-" I started, but the dark Viscet was faster, "You
must." I cleared my throat and tried again after a moment, "I
can't." Chronos stood, his ears high with amusement as he trotted back to his den. "We'll see about that, Songbird."
Rune hurried over to me, no longer focused on the Spirits. "Teach me!" I spat back, "Teach you
what." She shrugged, "They said
you would know." My eyes narrowed in annoyance and I lifted my head to the sky, "
Thanks for nothing." Rune tugged at the thick fur around my neck, trying to pull me out of the clearing with much struggle, as she was tripping over her paws in both excitement and not being able to walk on her hind legs. "You
will teach me, won't you Abuto?" Her eyes sparkled with hope and confidence, and I briefly wondered if it was the same look I had given King Nanashi all those years ago. I took a deep breath and sighed, hesitantly nodding. She climbed onto my back and hugged me tightly from behind, and I heard Chronos' sharp laugh cutting across the clearing.
So the student becomes the unwilling mentor.
I slowly padded into camp with Rune sleeping soundly, wrapped around my neck and back. I set her down next to Kozmotis, and mumble carefully to the mother, "Koz, could I have a word with you?" She stood, muttering, "I've already told you, I can't tell her what to do-" "No, it's not about her... interesting personality.
This time. I assured and led her to my den in the back, "Have you noticed anything
unusual about her?" Kozmotis looked confused, but shook her head. "Nothing out of the ordinary for a Viscetling, I guess." I looked over Kozmotis' shoulder at the sleeping child, then back to her mother standing in front of me. She ran off while I was taking her out this morning. She found herself at Spirit Tree." The female inwardly gasped, unable to hide the shock in her eyes. "How did she..." "I don't know," I admitted. "But she spoke with the Spirits."
Kozmotis' eyes gleamed with pride when she heard this, and she subconsciously leaned in a bit closer, "What did they say??" I shrugged, and the female huffed. "But I do know they told her something about having some
hidden power. She doesn't know what it is either, but Chronos seemed to have an idea." Kozmotis waited patiently for the punch line, sitting and flicking her tail. "And that would be...?" "
Magic." She seemed disappointed. Her voice was emotionless with disbelief, "You're joking." If you looked close enough, you could see her eye twitching at the corner. "I wish I was," I laughed and laid myself in the sunny patch not too far from where they were chatting. Unable to hide the laughter in my voice, I added, "And on top of that, my old mentor wants
me to mentor
her in whatever power she holds." Kozmotis stared at me unblinking, suddenly holding an air of seriousness. "You
will, right?"
My laughter subdued and I opened my eyes to see the mother holding my gaze. "Seems I don't have a choice, do I?" It was Kozmotis' turn to laugh. "You've grown wise, Abuto. You'll do well." "I hope so."
