Scarf design:
A representation of her love of flight, being an aerospace engineer (and a lover of travelling)
Why do they love their scarf?:
Vasilily laughed at the joke her best friend made. Fiorella had been making Vasilily laugh for the last fifteen years of their friendship. The two were still quite young in their lives and were at Starbucks, choosing the location for Fiorella's upcoming wedding.
"I take it Gillon doesn't approve of you going into space before the wedding?" Vasilily asked. She didn't like the idea of her friend doing something so dangerous, but this had been Ella's dream since they were twelve. Who was she to interfere? Although she herself chose to be an aerospace engineer instead of a pilot, she couldn't very well destroy the dreams of her best friend as well.
"What does he ever approve of. You know how safe he is. The trip is next week anyway." Fiorella laughed, her hands going to her owl patterned scarf.
"So, are you going to wear a scarf on your space suit?" Vasilily joked, knowing her friend well enough to believe it possible.
"Sadly scarves adhere to the laws of gravity... and would be a distraction supposedly." Fiorella pouted playfully.
Fiorella's eyes lit up.
"I got you something, just to remember me by when I'm exploring the area around Earth." She explained, bringing out a white box from her purse.
"Aww you're a darling." Vasilily took a sip of her Starbucks iced tea lemonade before opening the box and gasping.
Inside it was a beautiful blue scarf, matching her blue eyes and pale blue hair. The scarf had feathers springing out from a central point, giving the appearance of wings when spread out. It was breathtaking.
Fiorella carefully wrapped the scarf to be around the neck and reached over to position it on Vasilily.
"It's beautiful. Thank you." Vasilily smiled.
"No problem hon, you deserve something as beautiful as you." Fiorella winked in reply.
The next week-
Vasilily and Gillon were of course at the launch. Vasilily took the day off work to see her best friend achieve her lifelong dream. Gillian wanted to make sure his fiancé was alright. They had already hugged and said their goodbyes. Fiorella looked more beautiful than ever in her suit, a giant smile on her face. She was going to space. Her dream was really coming true.
Take off in 10...
Vasilily watched the rocket attentively. She had a sudden bad feeling. She was scared for her friend. Fiorella should just come out right now. Something bad was going to happen. NO!

"Gillon I have a bad feeling. Something bad is going to happen. I'm scared. I'm worried."
"Lily calm down. Ella's got this. She's been training her whole life."

TAKE OFF!
The rocket started slowly going up. It felt like she was in a dream. Her heart lifted with the rocket. Maybe she was wrong. Yes it was all okay. The rocket was already shooting up at a higher speed. Fiorella would be fine, just a few months and-
BOOM!
Vasilily's heart stopped. Her eyes had been on the rocket the whole time. It was steady, moving alright when suddenly it was a cloud of red, orange, then smoke. Her friend was in there. Not just her friend, her best friend. Fiorella was like her sister.
"NO! ELLA!"
She heard a masculine voice shout and turned to see Gillon fall to his knees.
Why did he do that? He'd only known Fiorella half as long as Vasilily did. Fiorella wasn't gone anyway. She couldn't be. She had to have survived. Maybe instead if going to the ship, she had to use the toilet. Fiorella was too young, too full of life, too full of laughter. This couldn't be happening. Her hands went to the scarf around her neck. She'd never forget Fiorella.
Some months later-
This was the third month Vasilily dealt with without Fiorella. Imagine, the mistake of an engineer, just like herself, killed someone. Killed Fiorella. There was an engine problem. And her best friend died because of it. Today was the funeral. Donned in a long black gown, Vasilily grabbed the scarf laid on her bed and wrapped it around her neck. Fiorella wouldn't want her to be bitter. Fiorella would want her to move on and wear a beautiful scarf while doing so.
