the viscet in this story is my Celestial, Ugin. the viscet mentioned is _Alex_'s Curare, and the girl in the story is a very special oc c:
He knew better than to meddle in the affairs of humans, but his curiosity and desire to rebel got the better of him. Getting involved with the needs of a species besides his own would surely cause the other celestials a decent amount of grief. Anything to get back at them. Yes, at first, Ugin followed the prayers of a desperate little girl for nothing more than selfish reasons — he was bitter and angry at the other celestials for underestimating and second guessing him. If he thought this plan through, though, he would understand that this little stunt wasn't really going to help his case.
Hindsight is 20/20.
Lynette was her name, and if he remembered correctly, she was eight years old. He had been listening to her prayers for quite some time, and it dawned upon him that this had nothing to do with being rebellious anymore; he truly bonded with this small child through the power of prayer. She never referred to any specific "God", but rather prayed to "anyone who would listen." Her household wasn't the best. It wasn't the absolute worst, but still not a healthy environment for a child to be in. She would pray for her parents to stop fighting, or for her father to find another job, or for a decent dinner. Ugin was relieved to learn that, despite all of the troubles she seemed to have, her parents did what they could to take care of her even if they didn't take care of themselves. Sometimes, though, that was just as bad.
As time went on — only a few months or so — the prayers began to wane. He no longer heard her small voice before she fell asleep for the night, and he had to wonder: did something happen to her? or did she merely give up because no one was answering her prayers?
Being a Celestial, Ugin was able to glide and spiral through the air of the small city without being seen by a single soul as he made his way to the small child's home. A quick peek into the living room window proved to Ugin that her prayers were far from false. The home was filthy and cluttered, the furniture was old and ratty, and even in the dark of the night Ugin could see that the walls were tinted a raunchy yellow colour from years of disregard. Rolling his eyes with an irritated huff, Ugin pushed himself upward to glide up to the top story windows like some sort of hovering snake.
Why did he have to care about this human girl? He remembered a promise he made to an old friend, that he would protect his species from these disgusting parasites, yet here he was, wasting his time to check up on and help one of them.
Despicable.
Not only was he wasting his time to help a human, viscets and humans were starting to co-exist in a sense. As it presently was, only the very wealthy could afford a domesticated viscet, so it wasn't entirely too common, but thinking of there being any domesticated viscets at all made the Celestial nauseous.
Humans alone made him nauseous. But for some reason, this was an entirely different situation. As he stared from the window into the dark room of the small, sleeping girl, Ugin felt his gut tighten and expand with a new sort of feeling. He was anxious over the entire situation at hand. Would he be able to help her? What could he possibly do? He couldn't just pluck her from her home and take her into the depths of the forest. Perhaps Curare could care for her at his village? No, no, that most certainly wasn't an option. Still in his celestial form, Ugin slithered through the glass of the window without any effort at all before standing on solid ground in her room.
It was a boring little room, and that alone saddened him. Children needed mental stimulation to keep their minds fresh and happy, yet the only thing he could find that could possibly give her any sort of entertainment was a tattered old bear on the floor by her bed. Assuming the stuffed bear had probably fallen from her grip in the middle of the night, Ugin knelt down to pick it up and place it gently beside her. He didn't spend much time eyeballing the rest of the room, only walked to the furthest corner and closed his eyes. The room began to sparkle and shine as the Celestial spoke under his breath, and in the blink of an eye, a small pine tree of about 4 feet tall materialized literally out of thin air. The tree was beautifully decorated with bright colourful lights and instead of a star at the top, there was a small viscet-shaped ornament in its place. Ugin took a step back in order to observe his work and against his own will, a smile painted his features for a short moment.
"Now what's a Christmas tree without a present underneath?" He asked himself quietly, glancing back at the child to make sure she was still fast asleep despite all of the pretty lights.
"Let's see..." He glanced back once again, eyes fixing on the tattered bear still in the same place he had placed it. "Ah... Yes, I have the perfect gift." Once again, he closed his eyes and mumbled under his breath. This time, however, he took extreme care with what was said. Everything had to be perfect.
It took longer than the creation of the simple tree, but once he was done, it was very much worth it. Any child would kill for the present in front of him. The bright green box was just about the size of the tree itself! The brilliant red bow that kept it together added the perfect touch, but there was still something missing...
After thinking for only a moment, Ugin smiled again before creating a small tag to tie to the gift box in front of him.
To: Lynette
From: "... What in the world was that fellow's name again? Ah, yes. That's right." Santa.
Without another word or even another glance, Ugin left the room quickly, making a silent promise to himself that he would be back. He wouldn't abandon this child who so desperately needed a friend.
