Smoke billowed from the volcano's peak, making the viscet below appear as though he were only an ant. Flame gazed at the peak with determination gleaming in his cool blue eyes before leaning foreword and sprinting to the top. Hardened ash crubmled beneath his paws and released small puffs of soft ash as he passed. His foot slammed down on dried magma and his claws scraped against the charred ground. Flame pressed onward, the memory of the encounter that occured mere moments ago replayed in his mind.
"A volcano?"
"Yes! Can't you see it?! The coursing magma within! It would be beautiful!"
"Your insane." Reyes glowered at him slightly.
"I am well aware of that, which is why I'm going."
"Then bring back a souvenir!" Pilot scrambled atop his mothers head and grinned excitedly at him.
"All right, Pilot. I will bring you back the prettiest thing I see!"
"Just be careful..." Nabi gazed at him shyly, concern painting her face.
"I will. I'll be back before dinner!"
Flame stumbled slightly and ran faster, his ears pressing against his head. He had made it halfway now, and the soot he was kicking up now tainted his soft fur. Flame thundered onward, his breath coming out in fierce huffs and his eyes trained on the peak. As he neared it, he began to slow to a staggered trot. At the peak, he looked down into the cavernous depths that bore a golden glow. A smirk appeared onto his face, and he jumped down, landing gracefully on a stone ledge that looked over the glowing lava. His tail swept low to the stone and he stepped foreword, his paws burning slightly from the heat. Slowly, he leaned over and gazed at the orange and gold liquid that flowed and boiled below. He couldn't hold it in any longer, and jumped into the air shouting triumphantly into the hollow mountain. Proud of his achievement, he plopped down and took deep breaths, gazing around and slowly absorbing everything.
Flame didnt know how long he spent down there, but he does remember the steady climb up and triumphant trot home, arriving back into the pack territory just as the sun began to dip beneath the trees. The first to greet him was Pilot, who shrieked his name and dashed to him. Behind the viscling, Nanook padded over with a large smile. "Looks like you conqured that mystery. How was it?"
"Amazing! It was more than I could have ever dreamed of!"
"Did you bring me a souvenir?" Pilot gazed up at him with a big, excited grin.
"Of course I did!" Flame set down the small, shimmering stone before the viscling who gazed at it with a huge smile.
"Whoa!!! Thank you so much Flame!" Pilot pressed against Flames leg before snatching up the gem and sprinting to his mother to show off his new gem.
"Was it worth it?" Nanook cocked his head at Flame and studied his face quietly.
"Yes. Every second was worth it."

The morning dew hung limply on the vibrant green leaves, reflecting the colors of the red and black Viscet that trotted past. The pack was just waking up when Flame returned from his midnight run. Reyes walked out of her den and stretched out, lashing her tail in an attempt to remove the grogginess of sleep. When she saw Flame, her eyes narrowed slightly and she stood tall. Across from her, Nanook padded out of his den calmly and adjusted his bandana. His eyes locked onto Flame and a slight smirk grew on his face. "Ey, Flame! How about a little competition?"
At this, Flames ears pricked up and a grin stretched on his face. "Your on! Whoever can get the most food in an hour wins!" Nanook trotted up to him and the two crouched side by side, facing the vast woods beyond them. "On your mark... Get set...."
"Go!" Nanook interrupted Flames countdown and launched foreword with determination. A millisecond later, Flame took off after him. The two ran side by side, equal to each other in speed and height, and rushed to the well known hunting spot. Upon arrival, they burst loudly into the clearing, scaring off all the prey in the area. "Argh! Look what you did!" Nanook nudge Flame playfully with a smirk on his face.
"What I did?! Your the one that ran headlong into here!"
"Oh am I? Well guess what!"
"What?"
"I'm going to be the one to get the most prey!" With that, Nanook took off after a doe he had seen flee to the east. Flame smirked and rushed the opposite way after an elk. He ran for several minutes before the beast came into view. Without slowing, Flame caught up with it and tackled the beast to the ground. The two struggled for several minutes until Flame received a sharp kick in the stomach, knocking the air out of him. He toppled over and struggled for breath for a moment as the elk stood and dashed away. Flame got up and grunted, knowing fully that he would not be able to catch up with the beast now. "Huh....well. Nanook said the most prey, not the biggest..." Flame gazed around until he caught sight of two chipmunks sitting side by side, completely unaware of the Viscet behind them. The rodents didn't stand a chance.
Flame pranced triumphantly into the pack boundaries, confident that he had outsmarted his challenger. Flame padded up to Nanook, holding the chipmunks in his paws in an attempt to keep his prize hidden. Nanook grinned at him and placed a paw over the carcass of the deer. "Looks like I've got you beat again!"
"Oh, really? Well. The contest was the most prey, wasn't it?" Flame grinned and revealed the chipmunks.
"No way, those count as one!"
"Nope! Two separate bodies! Two prizes. Looks like I've won!"
"Space! Who one?"
Space raised her head and gazed at the two males, balancing Pilot on her head as she did so. "Flame. He got two."
"Hah!"
"Okay, okay. That was sly. How about a race to make up for it?"
"Your on!" Flame dropped the chipmunks and took off, Nanook catching up seconds later.
Flames Orgin
Flame yawned, the top of his head rising like an alligator as he laid on the ground. A small weight thumped onto his back as Pilot leapt from his mothers head and fell upon the male. Immediantly, the viscling began gnawing on his mane and tugging at his ears while Flame simply laid in quiet tolerance. Nanook padded over and sat down beside the two, smiling as he watched Pilot try to wrestle with the red and black viscets mane. "Looks like he's got you pinned, Flame."
"Yeep. The kids too strong for me." Another yawn while Pilot giggled happily. Nabi padded over and picked up the viscling before sitting beside them and gently petting his mane. Pilot squirmed in her grasp before attempting to playfully nip at her paw.
"So, where'd you come from?" Paw walked over and sat across from them, her head cocked slightly as she studied Flame.
"Didn't I already tell you this?"
"Nope, you only told Nanook."
"Then he can tell you."
Nanook laughed. "You don't want me to tell them."
Flame rolled his eyes and sat up with a grunt. "Alright, alright. I was born in an Eastern pack near the famous Ring of Fire, or so the humans call it. My life was slow moving there and even as a viscling I felt as though I didn't belong. It was clear that I was the least favorite child in my family, and I often got away with sneaking out while my parents were fawning over my sister. Whenever I did get away, I always went straight to the volcanoes. They were always my favorite, unpredictable and wild in every way. I would race myself, timing my runs each day and comparing them. If I didn't beat my record, I wouldn't eat dinner. It kept up for quite some time until my thirteenth run. When I came down from the volcano peak, my family was waiting for me. My father stepped up and started yelling at me while my mother glowered in anger. I don't remember what they were mad about, I just remember getting so angry... So I turned away and ran. I ran for hours upon hours until I couldn't see the volcanoes any more, then I ran some more. It wasn't about getting away then, it was about finding something new. So I ran, and I ran. Day and night, rain and wind, I didn't stop for anything, even food. When my body finally gave up and I collapsed, I happened to be close enough to Nanook. He came and picked me up and carried me here. A week later, you all accepted me as one of your own, and six months later, here I am."
"Woah! That's so cool!" Pilot grinned at him in amazement.
"No, Pilot. It's not. I shouldn't have done that to myself. Running away is not the answer."
"Oh..." Pilot looked down quietly until he noticed Nabi's paw and began wrestling with it once more.
"Well then, Nanook never told me that." Paw looked between the two quietly.
"Oh really? What did Nanook tell you?" Flame gazed smugly at Nanook who chuckled nervously.
"Well... I might have said that you were an invading rouge and that I fought you for several hours before knocking you unconscious."
Flame burst into laughter and fell over, which caused Nanook and Pilot to laugh as well.
"Nanook, that's insane! I would beat you any day in a fight!"
"Ooh really? Wanna test that?"
"Heck yes!" Flame and Nanook jumped to their feet and crouched slightly.
"Nanook! Flame! Not now!" Reyes snarled at them and lashed her tail.
"Okay, okay. But one of these days... You better watch your back, Nanook."
Nanook chuckled. "Oh we will see about that, now won't we?"
Flames Personality
••Bold••
Flame has always been the kind of Viscet that sees a challenge as an opportunity. He's not afraid of speaking his mind or standing up for what he believes is right. Since birth, Flame has been rather different in what he is willing to do. He has always had a strong sense of self-confidence that seems to guide his decisions and actions.
••Independent••
Flame is the kind of Viscet that when he is faced with something difficult, he will refuse any form of help until he completes what he wants to complete. He likes to do his own jobs and will take any form of help as a challenge to him, which will only make him work harder and try to push away the helper.
••Brave••
Flame is well known for his insane amount of courage that often weaves him in and out of bad situations. He isn't afraid of something that can kill him and will face it without a second thought. Pilot often try's to imitate him, though Flame is quick to redirect the viscling before any danger falls upon him.
••Old School••
Flame is one for the classic kind of things. He is not a fan of loud rap music, but prefers the old rock music. He often uses old fashioned hunting tactics and doesn't seem to have any intention of changing it.
••Determined••
When Flame sets his sights on something, you can be sure that he will complete it. No matter how daunting it may be, Flame will charge head first into any form of a goal he may set.
••Reckless••
Flame can be.... A little reckless at times. With all of his bravery and determination, it's no surprise that he runs into wild situations willingly. His pack members often worry about his safety and health, though he assures them that he has everything under control, even when he knows he doesn't.
••Adventurous••
Flame is what his name says he is. He is a wild, untamable piece of a wild world and he is not afraid to show it. He lives his life to the fullest and launches himself to new areas simply to explore them. When your around Flame, your never bored.
Flame woke up to a sharp scream that vibrated through the camp and into his cave. He dashed out, stumbling slightly as his body tried to keep up with his mind. Space looked around frantically and breathing heavily, clearly panicked. "Pilot?! Pilot!!!"
"Space, what happened?" Space turned sharply to face Flame and ran to him.
"He's gone! He was there when I went to sleep, but he's gone and I don't know where he went!"
"Okay, okay. Calm down. Do you know where he might have gone?"
"No. No I don't. His necklace fell off when he left though..." She whimpered, clearly frightened and worried for her missing child to the point that she might make herself ill.
"He left the necklace, huh? Alright. I'll see what I can do for you." Flame ran into Space's den and picked up the silver heart necklace, sniffing it several times. A shadow stretched into the cave and he looked back at a confused Nanook. "Pilot ran away." He tossed him the necklace. "Help me find the kid." Nanook caught it and sniffed it before nodding sharply. The two took off, Nanook with his nose high and Flame with his nose close to the ground.
"Let's split up, we will cover more ground then."
"Alright." Flame dashed to the west, sniffing as many things as he could. The innocent face of the silver-blue viscling flickered in his mind and Flamed quickened the pace. After several hours, Flame stopped and looked around him, panting heavily with a racing heart. "Alright.... Calm down Flame. Just think about what happened last night. You raced Nanook... Pilot played with your mane... You told your story.... That's it! Your story! The stinker went to the volcano!" Flame turned sharply and ran as fast as he could to the tall volcano that he had climbed four days ago. He looked around frantically and took a few sharp breaths. The scent of the viscling hit him and he took off after the source.
Flame found Pilot halfway up the volcano. The viscling was blackened by the ash and had a nasty cough. "Pilot!" When Pilot heard Flames voice, he looked back and smiled weakly before toppling over. Flame quickly picked up the viscling and began racing down the volcano. For once, he didn't think about if he was beating his record, all he could think of was the tiny life that he held in his paws. Halfway back to the pack, he met up with Nanook who took Pilot from him and finished the trek so Flame could take a moment to breath. Things seemed to move in slow motion as Flame entered the camp site. Nanook was washing the ash from Pilots fur while Paw was trying to keep Space calm. Nabi had already arrived and was checking the tiny body. Things snapped back to reality when Reyes hit Flame. "This is your fault! Your the one that told the kid about you climbing volcanoes as a viscling!"
"I know! Can we just focus on helping him?!"
"He's fine, Reyes!" Nabi looked up. "He will be fine."
Space shoved passed Paw and smashed into Nanook before cradling her baby and fawning over him. Flame steadied his breathing and approached them. "Where was he?" Nanook looked up at Flame."
"Halfway up the volcano. The kid sure can run..."
"It's a good thing you found him so soon." Nabi stood and looked at him. "You might have saved his life."
Flame shook his head slight. "If it weren't for me he wouldn't have even been there."
"Flame, Pilot is crazy.... We both know he would have eventually made his way to that volcano. If it weren't for you, we wouldn't have found him."
Space stood suddenly and pressed her head against Flames chest and began thanking him numerous times. Flame stood in silence before smiling slightly. "It's fine...I'm just glad I made it in time."
"Where are we going?" Space looked around happily, following close behind Paw, who seemed more relaxed.
"You'll see." Flame led them, a small smile on his face as he guided them to his second favorite place. Ever since he had joined the pack, he has always adored this small area of crooked stones and ancient statues almost as much as he loved the volcano nearby.
They walked for most of the day, entertaining themselves with songs or riddles and rounds of I Spy, though the answer was always a tree. Back at camp, Nanook, Nabi, Reyes, and Pilot were going through their daily routine of hunting, sleeping, and playing while they waited for the three to return. When they had finally arrived, the sun was beginning to fall from its peak and commence its steady decent to the mountain tops.
"We're here." Flame stopped and behind him, he heard Space gasp.
"Woah! This place is amazing!" She trotted ahead and began sniffing around.
"How'd you find it?" Paw walked up and stood beside Flame.
"I was chasing an elk and it led me here. I thought you two might like it."
Space squeaked excitedly and dashed after a rabbit that had forgotten to hide in time. Before it could get away, it was trapped in Spaces jaws.
"Prey is abundant here, which is why it's worth the trek."
Paw nodded and watched Space as she dropped the first rabbit to pursue a badger. "I see that. Thank you. Hey Space! Come here!"
Space skidded to a stop and padded to Paw. "What's up?"
"Come with me to get a basket, okay? Flame, can you try to catch as much as possible?"
"Sure." Flame padded ahead while the two females slipped away into the forest. He crouched and studied a jackrabbit quietly, preparing to pounce on the small creature when he was ready. Suddenly, a heavy body collapsed on top of him, knocking the air out of him. He squirmed and looked around, before locking eyes with Space who stood above him. An understanding smirk crept onto his face and he grinned at her while she laughed at him. Space pranced ahead and Paw stood up, giving him enough time to stand and crash into Paw, knocking her over before turning to face Space, who he easily bowled over. The two females got up and lunged at him at the same time, throwing him to the ground and holding him. "Okay, okay!" Flame laughed. "I can't take on both of you, that's not fair!"
Space laughed triumphantly and Paw smiled. "Alright, let's get some food and head back home."
It was an average day for Flame. He woke up first, went for a morning run, then came back and ate some breakfast before Reyes asked him to hunt. He journeyed to his usual spot, the clearing with the sharp stones that stood in a circle, and began to track the smaller prey that lurked in the area. He had begun to assemble quite the grouping when the twig snapped beneath the heavy weight of the deers hoof. Flame turned to the sound and flicked his ears upward. He studied the source until his eyes locked onto a buck that had wandered nearby. Instantly, Flame dropped to the ground and crawled near to it, studying the mighty beast in silence. When the creature turned its head away from him, he launched foreword. A loud popping noise rattled through the air as he launched, and the Bucks body shook before toppling over. Flame landed crookedly and arched his back, gazing around wildly for the source of the thing that had stolen his prey. The shimmer of sunlight against a gun barrel caught his attention, and he rose in authority as he gazed at the human that stood a few feet away, a rifle in their steady hands. The human swept the barrel of the gun to face him and gazed through the Scope. Flame did not budge, blink, or even jump. Instead, he stood in silence and watched the man who could kill him.
The two remained frozen for several minutes. Flame knew that the prey was worthless now, tainted by metal and gun powder, still something in him made him want to simply stand there and wait for the human to move. The human on the other hand was frantically trying to think of a reason for this Viscet to not so much as bat an eye even when it knew he could kill it. The two stood in silence, the tension building up like clouds before a strike of lightning. Finally, the human turned the gun slightly to the side and fired, splintering the tree that stood right next to Flame. Again, Flame simply stood in unwavering confidence. The man began to shout, wave his arms, throw stones at the Viscet, but Flame didn't budge. After several minutes, Flame stepped foreword and glowered at the man, before snorting and turning away, trotting back to his pile and picking up his prey to return home.
