WTE Name
Alaska Wildfire
(Goes by Alaska)
Reason for Naming
Alaska Wildfire wasn't even born yet when her name was already decided. In the northlands where the two-leggeds had what they called 'gold rush', was where Alaska's mother had been born and raised. Her daughter would have grown up there if a massive wildfire that summer hadn't devastated the land and wiped out their home. From that day on, her mother travelled until finding a home.
Also, her appearances of sooty-like legs and mane ends affirmed the choice.

Personality
Alaska is a fiery (pun intended) young mare who's very adventurous and never let's any grass grow beneath her hooves, figuratively and literally. She's always busying herself because she doesn't like having too much time on her hands; too much free time means too many thoughts she can have and it's easier for her to get melancholy or upset. Because she has yet to find a home and someone to care for her, Alaska can run into blue funks remembering losing her first love and how she really is alone. When she finds someone, she will be able to heal and build a new life for herself and her mate and live her adventurous carefree life again.
History
Alaska was born in an upstanding harem that was the largest in the region. She was just the daughter of a subordinate mare that joined that winter but the herd was welcoming of her as they were of her mother. She grew up in that herd with foals her age and older that made her acquaintance, one of them being the lead's youngest son.
As they grew older, she spent time with him more and more and away from the rest of the younger equines. When her yearling spring came, she was excited to start out on her own and had her heart set on leaving with that colt when he was old enough. But it was not meant to be. He left early one morning off with some other yearling mares and left her behind without a trace or goodbye.
The stallion of the herd asked her to stay with him and become a breeding mare of his but with such an ache of rejection, she refused and decided she would do better on her own. She left the harem a few days later and has been alone ever since.

I've been racing for you, honey
But you take your love
From under my feet
The very moment I arrive
I hold the invitation in my hand
You smile and I don't understand
When you tell me the writing ain't yours
You were the one thing I could count on
Even if your apathy was what I expected
Oh, darling, I waited and waited to feel your footsteps
And to hear your breath
But maybe I just wanted someone to wait for
You were ever in my mind
You were behind my soul each time
I held it to the flame
You were ever in my precious thoughts
I'd leave a room of angels
Just to be alone
If only to say your name
I never told you I needed you, darling
Like a rose needs the rain
How could you possibly know how much?
So I reach for your love
Like the moon and the stars
Ever in my sight
Ever out of touch
There's a spotlight of a holy kind
Think it comes from somewhere
Up in the sky or from some far off, lovely place
But this light never, ever, ever shone on me
At least as far as I could see
So I sat in the dark and I watched you
Now I just cry to myself
When there's no one around
And I teach myself to walk backwards
Out of any given situation
Yes, I can be graceful and try
Not to step on my train and
You don't have to say goodbye
But I'll be right here if you want to
You were ever in my mind
You were behind my soul each time
I held it to the flame
You were ever in my precious thoughts
I'd leave a room of angels
Just to be alone
If only to say your name
I never told you I needed you, darling
Like a rose needs the rain
How could you possibly know how much?
So I reach for your love
Like the moon and the stars
Ever in my sight
Ever out of touch
Now, I could paint your portrait
If I never saw you again
When I am old someone may ask me
If I ever loved
And I will speak but they won't recognize
My words, they'll say I'm telling lies
And maybe I am
Maybe I am
All I know is
You were ever in my mind
You were behind my soul each time
I held it to the flame
You were ever in my precious thoughts
I'd leave a room of angels
Just to be alone
If only to say your name
I never told you I needed you, darling

Memories wrote:The year was brand new. Winter's back was finally broken and spring would soon be upon us. I yearned for that time but also knew of its dangers. I would be mature soon, and would be expected to act that way. My foalish ways were still with me but aspects of my adulthood kicked in early, especially when aspects of the lead's youngest son surfaced.
His name was Shadow Hunter, a legacy carried from his sire's side which matched the band stallion's own name Hidden Shadows. He, like his sire, was darker, a deep grey grullo with a long mane and forelock to 'shadow' his eyes and therefore, his intent. By winter's end, he began courting me much to his father's disapproval and promised me the world.

"We could leave here you know."
"What do you mean?"
"We could leave all of this behind: the constant burn from my father's glares, the disciplinary separation from the harem, the scathing looks from the other subordinates, all of it."
"I'm not sure i quite understand what you're getting at."
"We could go on our own, you and me."
"You and me?"
"Exactly, you're all I need. We can do it if you'd join me..."
~*~
I held onto that dream for months. When the blizzards were white washes, I imagined springs with Shadow Hunter. When the cold nipped, I imagined someday he'd be beside me weathering the cold and we would be happy.
But that was not mean to be.
Shadow Hunter had been aloof throughout the later months of winter. Denying his ignoring me to be just a side-effect of the cold, I turned a blind eye to his associating with the other yearlings my age. I noticed him talking to a palomino Sabino I barely knew and chalked it up to socialization and refused to see anything more.
When I went to look for him, Shadow Hunter was gone.
I woke up to murmurings amongst the mares of a challenge, a fight, and the inexperienced yearling running off with a subordinate's yearling daughter. Only then did I realize he was not coming back for me.
