The latin originated name Leomaris means “The Lion of the Sea” a rather ironic name for this little scaredy-cat. Preferring the safety of the sky and land over the mysterious waters of the very sea he is partially dubbed of. This name represents his possible inner and hidden self. Lions are known for their pride, strength and dominance, but yet this fellow is the exact opposite at the moment. With a gaze of a youth’s curiosity and a mouth agape with wonder he is nothing, but a mere cub of the sea, but with endurance, growth and experience he will become a grand leader and a true Leo of the Sea. A name that will represent him well in time.

An 8 way Tale
“Open it!” chirped the ecstatic voice of the gullwing. His golden eyes shimmered like the sun’s rays against an iridescent metal. Leomaris glanced expectedly at the runeling who eyed her gift in suspicion as she sat on her makeshift birthday throne of stacked throw pillows. Morrighan was surprised to see a birthday gift on such a cold winter day and even questioned the very knowledge on how he even knew her birthday as she lacked any recollection of informing him about it. Adamant on the concept that it was nothing, but a mere prank, Morrighan nudged it to her side.
Leomaris unsure of common birthday customs, but only watched her expectantly as she pretended to ignore his gift. Morrighan was prepared to start a miniature interrogation on the matter of the gift, but was interrupted by the introduction of her scrumptious birthday cake. Tyasi cautiously stepped into the room with several layers of fruit stacked into a stylish arrangement to be fixed into a position similar to that of a cake. This ‘fruit’ cake was gently placed on the table where you could see the keen details. Each layer was bound together through administered pale golden honey that was delicately glazed under each fruit. The upper parts of each layer became more abundant in berries, while the base layers were constructed with slices of melons and citrus. Inside the center spiral was constructed of chopped pome type fruits ranging from apples to imported oriental loquats that were adhered by a thick coating of caramel. The cake was prepared to be eaten where it was even presliced and was begging to be devoured. Poking out her wet tongue, Morrighan craned her short dark neck to take a nibble of her spectacular birthday dish, but found only air to chomp instead.
Grumbling as she noticed herself rising from the comfort of her plushy throne. She was gently picked up by the scruff of her furry feathery neck and whined in disapproval as she heard the “tsk tsk tsk,” of her guardian. “Morrighan,” Tyasi stated with a slightly curt tone. “It’s rather rude to push off a present to the floor so you can eat cake.” Tyasi chided as she pointed to the poorly wrapped gift that had been knocked over unknown to Morrighan’s knowledge.
While glaring at the package the runeling quipped back, “Isn’t cake before presents?” with a slight growl to the voice that popped into the woman’s head. Raising an eyebrow the human returned the comment with, “It’s the opposite in this house. The best things are saved for last.”
Staring back with an amused look, Morrighan poked out her tongue and giggled at her loss in an argument before muttering a simple “Sorry, Leo.” Tyasi placed the runeling down with a half smile before picking up the crudely wrapped package. “So, my little Pearl, did you find the perfect gift you were looking for?” Questioned the lips of the playful face of the rune’s bearer.
Leomaris chirped merrily and jumped in the air with excitement in response. Morrighan slowly pieced her earlier nagging question together as she exchanged glances between the rune and bearer. “IT WAS YOU!” She screeched with the uncanny familiarity to that of a Banshee inside the bearer’s cerebrum. The horrible sound echoed throughout the bearer’s throbbing head as she proceeded to gingerly massage her temples. Under her breath, Tyasi coughed a shrewd comment, “Best decision to name you Morrighan, Oh queen of ghosts.”
Feeling rather triumphant with herself, Morrighan fluttered over to her gift. She produced a petite smile before she commenced the opening of her gift. Finally tearing the last bit of the paper she kicked the loose oak wood lid off the petite wooden box that was inside the dull wrapping paper. A shrill of fear erupted from the chest of the runeling as stumbled off the couch after witnessing the unruly sight of her present. Leomaris confused at her fear clicked and whistled several times in concern. Realizing that she couldn’t understand his language, he then proceeded to peek into the box to double check. With no significant facial change he muttered a low “What’s wrong with it?” to the runeling.
Tyasi curious herself to what was Morrighan’s gift, took a quick glance before turning her head away in disgust. Slippery pulsing flesh sat in the box, before a single slippery tentacle popped out. Then another followed by more until five purply-pink tentacles hovered outside of their wooden perimeter feeling for something to grab on. After a few seconds the entity was able to heave its damp mass outside of the box. Revealing its true form, the small octopus dragged its dehydrating self around the edge of the sofa with no intention of stopping until a sufficient water source was found.
Looking at both the runes who both seemed to have no interest in collecting the octopus left it as another mess for Tyasi to clean up. Sighing she bolstered her body with the thoughts to make her ignore the disgusting feeling of carrying the octopus. Picking up the small box that sloshed with the remnants of sea water she gently uplifted the young mollusk and placed it into its box once more. “I’ll be returning this little guy to where he properly belongs. So I’ll be right back you two, but don’t you dare touch that cake Mori or Mari.” she warned as she slipped on some sandals and headed out the door.
Frowning the gullwings eyes overflowing with discouragement fell to the floor where he could see the runeling’s pursed lips and exposed tongue. “What was wrong with my present? I thought I got you something you always needed!” he whined with a face more puzzled than scattered jigsaw pieces. “I never needed a live octopus.” Morrighan retorted with her dark cheeks puffing as her earlier assumption seemed as right as a sailor’s navigation. Even though her brother wasn’t the prankster type, she couldn’t give him the doubt. “Oh…but you gripe about how you n-n-never have enough ink and I heard of these o-o-octopi that can squirt s-s-some… I thought an u-u-unlimited supply would be a great gift for y-you,” he stuttered a bit with embarrassment as he tried to justify his cause. Leomaris had now realized how silly his gift was and to his dismay felt the weight of a now ruined birthday. "Sorry…" he added with his golden eyes brimming with regret.
Unimpressed by his reasoning, Morrighan snorted in response, but couldn’t deny the sincerity of his token. “Apology accepted,” she grumbled stiffly as her anger slowly drifted off her being. “now tell me why you got me an octopus or how did you even manage getting it?” she asked with piqued curiosity, but had the facial façade that represented the previous attitude that adorned her face. Shocked at the question, Leomaris didn’t know if it was okay to share his blundering feat, but as the silent runeling stared on, waiting for his tale, he decided to go along and speak.
“Well, you see… After I learned of this birthday celebration tradition, I went to search for the perfect gift. I spent days and I even braved the wilderness of the port town! I went uum… What do you call it? Window shopping, I believe and couldn’t find anything of your liking. So I was pretty stumped and was a bit hungry too and I thought some fish would hit the spot since I was so close to the harbor. So while I was out in the port and swimming carefully to avoid boat bottoms, I came across this really weird looking fish creature. It had a bulbous head and eight lengthy tendrils and when I got close to snatch up it sent a jet of some type black goop and dove too deep for me to follow. I stopped following for a while as I saw it steadily aim to hide in the midst of the twilight zone. I think I was about twenty six feet deep, before I had to go back up. Soooo, I went to my flock’s cliff to ask the flock chief’s mate about the fish. She’s the large foam white female with green accents and the dawn orangy-pink rune marks, you’ve met her before, remember? Anyway she told me about squids and octopi and how I probably saw an octopus, because of its form and limb quantity. She also mentioned that it was a bit rare to see one dive to the point where they would head to the disphotic zone and that it must have been a gutsy large one. Especially since that is hammerhead and deep sea rune territories. Then I learned about their ink production! It seemed perfect for you, it be almost an unlimited supply. Tyasi wouldn’t have to buy you all those ritzy colors and more black wells either! Or at least that was what I thought at the time and went back. It was a huge find and it had already eluded me once and as a brother I just couldn’t ignore such a magnificent birthday prospect. So I hung out at the dock all day trying to catch this octopus. I had to return home later that day, but after that I spent several days trying to catch that same creature. It was always hiding and sneaking around, trying to live its life without some unusual predator stalking its every waking moments. I could never nab it and I tried to capture it so many times, but always came short. Yesterday I was adamant to secure him. I refused to be hesitant, because of the deadline and worked up the nerve with only one goal. I was so focused on his future imprisonment that I failed to notice my current oxygen to distance rations. I wasn’t cautious that day and paid for it… I was getting so light headed that I tried to swim back up, but I could make it. I clicked and made a few shrill calls to alert anyone of my danger before just drifting away. Luckily I awoke in a tide pool with younger Deep Sea rune. I had forgotten that our individual calls are similar in speech, probably from our cooperative coexistence as she had heard my calls and came to my rescue. She explained I was in the lower middle of the euphotic zone and was out like lantern fish’s internal light. She was roughly the size of an adolescent human and seemed to have a cerulean base with green flecks that complimented her nacreous like belly scutes. She never gave me her name, but she told me that I was lucky being nearby as her bearer’s ship was being direct to port to drop off some oriental spices. I explained to her why I was so deep underwater, which caught her interest. She offered to get the octopus for me and I just sat there and rested. I watched the sea salt runes pick up the harbor trash and play with my tail a bit until she returned. When she did she gave me half of my sought out octopus and apologized about how she couldn’t help herself. The seasalt runes squealed in displeasure about their fallen animal friend so the deep sea girl had to eat the rest of him. She apologized some more and explained to that she couldn’t stick around to get another one for me, since the seafarer rune that guides her ship was finicky of winds and times for sailing… I guess I’ve been prattling for a long time, huh? Well, to keep this brief, I was forlorn and went to bed very late last night and just caught that little fellow who got stranded in a tide pool this morning. So I searched the beach and found two sea salt runelings trying to lug this box and their younger sibling dragging some slightly decorative paper. Poor little things were having trouble cleaning the items off the beach. So I took it off their hands and barely made it out in time with your birthday gift.” he concluded with an embarrassing expression on his face.
Leomaris had been so caught up in his story and his love of talking that he had managed to put the birthday girl in a deep slumber. He didn’t know when this happened, but assuming from the grumbling bellies of them both that she couldn’t muster the energy to stay awake. Smiling the gullwing cuddled up to his younger sibling as he waited for the return of his bearer.
Several minutes later there was a ruckus at the door as Tyasi clambered in with several bags of supplies. The drowsy runeling blinked awkwardly as she saw her guardian placed the bags on the floor before rummaging through one to retrieve several wells full of glittery ink metallic shades of ink. The runeling woke up immediately and began to fawn over her gifts. “You two can eat the cake now; I have to get started on dinner. Going to have a seafood extravaganza! Fresh octopus, squid, tilapia, halibut, mussles and all those other tasty critters!” she cheered exuberantly. With a fondness to seafood that could almost rival that of any gullwing.
Taking those words as a signal to chow down, Morrighan pulled out a hefty precut slice and began munching on sweet fresh goodness. Taking a slice out as well, Leomaris eyed the delicacy to any herbivore before taking a few pecks at the honey coated berries near the top. It was sweet and scrumptious, but not really his cup of tea. taking a few more berries off to tide him over, he curled up on the sofa watching his little family member gorge herself full as he waited on dinner. He probably wouldn’t get that kind of meal again until his own birthday. Drooping his eyes slightly, he dreamily chirped a, “Can’t wait for me own.” as he imagined what delicacies would be on the plate during his birthday.

(this is a song, sorry about how it doesn't seem to flow, but the lyrics when you sing it to the desired tune/tone. I just can't sing ver well enough to show you. ;-;)
I always loved the sky
Its like an aerial sea
One of the best reasons
Is I can see all infront of me
A sad thing is
It doesn't have my favorite fizz
A cloud filled sky lacks all the fish
Too bad that's my sustenance--
Unknown to those water breachin' lights
Is a hoard of Scaley delights-- but that means I must
Look inside of me--
Since shattering my fear is the key
Unknown Unknown living in the water
The Unkown The Unkown causes me to falter
Giving in to my insecurity
Has been cured by my familyyyy
Uknown Unkowns are always near
The unknown, the unknown upheavals my fear
But with faith I can summon my courage
And live like my heritage
~~~
In Swift Halisale
I gotta wag my tail
At the sounds
And winds eastbound
Take flight on a draft
And land on a sailing mast
The pleasures of living near town
Provides more room to play around
Too bad I refuse to explore every place
Unless with my family's support
Then I can create a brave face
With experience, I'll be a fort
Until then I'll be with fear
It may not be around, but its here
Unknown Unknowns are here forever
The Unknowns the Unknowns are beaten together
Just let it never live in your core
You just can't fear all of Eldemore
(choruse bit= each "unknown lines")
~~
I live in three realms
Sky, Earth and Sea
When I fend of my fear
I love them mutually
S do not shed a single tear
For I shall not neglect destiny
I live through, with cheer
For I am, The Lion of the Sea
