He loves sour candy because it reminds him of his dad. They used to compete to see who could eat the most sour candy, more pieces at one time, or go the longest without making a face when the sourness kicked in. They really like sour spray candy and warheads and lemon heads, but their very favorite were the ShockTarts they used to sell in the 90's... SweetTarts just don't have the same kick.

prompt; Stu has loved sour candy ever since he was a kid, it reminds him now of his childhood and times spent when his parents would take him trick or treating, where he would excitedly check his candy bucket or bag after every house in search of sour candies or tart treats. He's especially fond of sour green apple candies as they remind him the most of halloween adventures as a kid, if the treat has a caramel undertone it's even better for him as one of his favorite childhood treats was the family orchard's sour granny smith green apples smothered in a sweet, homemade caramel courtesy of his grandma! Stu as an adult, now is the one whose friends pick the sour or tart and unwanted treats from their candy lots to trade with Stu, watching his face light up in delight! He enjoys passing candy out on halloween now more than going to parties or haunted houses, though don't expect anything sour from him- He's keeping all of those for himself.

honestly, it was an accident.

russell's hometown is well known for their exports of exotic fruits,
so everyone who grew up there naturally had an affinity with delicacies
like kiwis, mangoes, and pineapples.

not russell, though.
he liked mangoes for maybe the first three slices (until he hit the unripe piece)
the dreadful, tongue-tingling, face-puckering taste of an underripe mango

eventually, he decided it wasn't worth his nerves to gamble over whether
a piece of dumb fruit would be scary or nice anymore

so every year he would look forward to halloween, when all the fruit seasons
ended and he could safely acquire and enjoy his annual haul of candy

at least that was the case, until the year his favorite candy brand introduced their sour variety,
and he ate it without bothering to read the label.

he hated sour!

dazzle had always had a very prominent fondness for anything sour -- lemons have always been his favorite, and when it came to candies, he couldn't get enough of sour punch straws, warheads, or anything else of the like. but what made these treats so special for him may have actually been because of one of his lifelong friends.

dazzle was never much of the social type, those who tried to socialize with him as a kit were often not met with much. or at least, all except for alice, a much more extroverted kit who enjoyed cheering up those around her. bringing a bag of candies with her not long after halloween had ended and meeting dazzle for the first time that same day, he didn't seem to be bothered by her company despite her talkative nature. she sat beside him for a while, telling stories and describing her dream of becoming a famous baker when she grows older, dazzle never had much to say, but he always showed his interest thru nodding or a simple "mhm".

as alice sifted through her small bag of treats, she came across one in particular, a small pack of sour patch kits! she scrunches her face a bit as she set it to the side, dazzle peering over to see. it was obvious she had a distaste for those kinds of sweets, and although he hadn't spoken all that much before, before he even knew it, the words "can I take that?" had already left his mouth, alice grinning as she nods and pushes the bag over to him.

even as adults, the two still have their share of treats together. alice taking anything sweet while dazzle takes the sour candies she seems to hate so much, which he never truly understood, but he was happy to take them off her hands regardless.
