cat name: aspen that sways in the wind // aspen
gender: male
rank: the guardians
clan: the shore of dreams
age: 17 moons
prompt:
the fire. the smoke. the ash. all of it rising from the valleys beyond him. there was nothing he could do. the flames were spreading, and the smoke unfurled like a beast that had just awakened from its slumber. from the top of the hill’s peak, all he could see was inferno, for miles and miles, the orange glow of a roaming scarlet was reflected in the blue canvas above.
he had no choice. the peril ahead was coming, and fast. he had to warn his clan.
footsteps skipping in a dance, the floral essence of springtime was dimmed by the smoke and at once, he was greeted by the sound of coughs and wails.
“we need to go! a fire is on it’s way.”
oh, starclan. save us.
the sway of movement reached his ears, the clan had started moving. the shrieks of kits and the soft voices of their mothers bloomed into reality. panic was rising and there was no doubt about it.
he could only hope, they would get out of here, fast enough.
a gust of wind fluttered by, ruffling the russet fur along his back. the crackle of flames boomed in his ears. the fire was near. “go, go, go!” nudging a petite figure forwards, everything seemed to slow as the flames grew higher as if reaching for the sky.
a breeze swept the fire, onwards and the sky was growing dark.
dark with smoke. and..
he had never been so relieved to hear the roar of an underground beast.
a storm was being set into motion and the wind, just, a messenger for its arrival.
thank the stars.
