GENERAL QUESTIONS
Q: How long should I wait before asking about the status of my explore reply?
A: Writers have one month from the time they claim a post to get a response out to players, though it typically won't take that long. We want to make sure our writer friends have plenty of time to make some meaningful and serious responses to everyone. You may check our explore log to see if you've been claimed. If it’s been over a month, you’re welcome to contact Swishy or Vivika to check in.
Q: Does my post have to be about my cats exploring?
A: No, explore posts do not have to be anything specific! The purpose of explore is to develop your Clan, and there isn't a strict limit on how much or what you can write, as long as it has to do with your Clan and fits within CS guidelines. Ideally, however, your post should end with or connect to a patrol, since the writer who responds to your post will roll for prey and herbs found on patrol.
Q: How do I explore with my second clan?
A: Exploring with your second clan is almost identical to exploring with your first one! Keep the following things in-mind;
• Before switching clans, ensure you don’t have any pending mini-scenarios (predator encounters, border skirmishes, npc tasks)! If you do, please complete them before switching over.
• Your level & XP are the same for both clans!
• Link your last writer’s reply and last explore post (both from your first clan).
• One patrol at a time! If you've explored with your first clan, wait for a writer’s reply before exploring with your second clan.
• Your second clan does not receive an additional three free posts. Instead, your clans must share their inventory items (prey and herbs)! Please keep a combined inventory (i.e. don’t create separate inventories for your clans) as this helps the writers keep track of changes in your inventory as you explore!
• You’re welcome to create separate custom prey/predator lists! Switching between lists means your cats will only catch the prey items in the list you linked, but their overall inventory must still be shared (i.e. your fantasy clan will catch fantasy prey and your rainforest clan will catch rainforest prey, but their overall listed inventory must be shared and therefore has both fantasy & rainforest prey).
Q: What happens if I restart my lore/clans?
A: Your level & XP will still remain the same! You will also not receive an additional free three posts. Instead, you're welcome to keep your herbs and prey or convert them to match your new custom prey/predators list (if you have one)! Alternatively, you may also sell your herbs/prey to Mousespeck for stardust.
Q: What are Wahoo’s Monthly Tasks? What happens if I don’t do them?
A: Each month, Wahoo announces the season change and a new set of monthly tasks! All users are welcome to complete these tasks in their explore post to earn extra little prizes. This is completely optional and you don’t have to participate if you prefer not to! Find out more about our current monthly tasks here.
LEVELS & XP QUESTIONS
Q: How do I claim XP from the Quest Board (or from other Stars events)?
A: Add a note with a link to where you earned the XP in your explore post! You don’t have to do any math or add the XP on your own━a writer will do that for you in their reply.
Q: How does leveling up and experience work?
A: All users start at level 0! You earn experience (XP) from participating in explore (fighting predators, healing sickness, etc.), as well as how many words you write. When you reach the XP requirement to level up, the XP from the previous level is "spent" in order to move you to the next level, and will not roll over to your new level. For example, if you have 135XP and are level 0, you'll level up to level 1 and have 35XP left. You cannot skip levels.
Q: Is there a word count to XP ratio that writers use?
A: Here is our word to XP conversion ratio and you can see a breakdown of how much XP we award for writing in our explore log.
HUNGER,ㅤHEALTHㅤ&ㅤSICKNESSㅤQUESTIONS
Q: Can you feed multiple cats with one piece of prey?
A: Yes, depending on how much FP it has! For example, you can feed three cats with a 3FP piece of prey and each cat will lose 10% hunger. Or, you could split it between two cats, and remove 20% hunger from one, and 10% hunger from another. As an additional note, you cannot split a 1FP prey between two cats (removing -5% health for each one). Each FP can only remove -10% hunger (nothing more and nothing less)!
Q: Is there a herb list for explore?
A: Here's our official herb list! Note that herbs in explore can be used for things beyond their actual use; for example, you could heal your cat with deathberries (poison) and they'll still be healed.
Q: Can I create a custom herb list?
A: Unfortunately, not! Writers request certain herbs for healing sickness and Mousespeck also requires certain herbs for her mechanic, so allowing users to create their own custom herb lists would make this v tricky.
Q: Oh no! I don't have the right herbs to heal my cat's sickness! What do I do?
A: You're welcome to visit Mousespeck to try to swap for the herbs you need! You may also advertise on the fanclub or our discord to see if another user has the herbs you need (just make sure to post a form on the archives as proof of the exchange). Alternatively, you may also remove the sick cat from patrol (to prevent them from losing health/spreading sickness) until your other patrollers find the herb(s) you need!
PATROLㅤQUESTIONS
Q: Can kits explore?
A: Kits cannot count towards explore rolls, nor should they be listed in the “cats on patrol” section! However, you may certainly write about kits in your explore post(s).
Q: Can apprentices explore?
A: Yes, apprentices count towards explore rolls and are treated equally to adult cats!
Q: When can I change or switch-up my patrol?
A: Whenever you’d like! You may add or remove cats from patrol whenever you'd like─the current season, the appearance of a predator, etc doesn’t affect this.
DEATH-RELATED QUESTIONS
Q: Can my cats die?
A: Your cats will not die under any circumstances unless you opt-in for death with the listed form.
Q: Does applying a “star’s greeting” item mean my cat is dead?
A: Not at all! The star’s greetings item is only a line edit! It doesn’t mean your cat is dead, it just means your kitty has some really cool ghostly line edits! ^^ If your cat is dead, a writer will let you know in their reply and post on the cat’s page (example).
Q: How do I apply a Starclan lines edit (star's greetings item)?
A: All Starclan line edits have to be applied as a color-in. Make sure to ask the artist to add you to the cat’s oekaki page to make these edits! Here are our guidelines for how to apply a Starclan or Dark Forest edit to your cat! Just like any edit item, please make sure to get the edit approved, and post a "used item" form on the archives.
