I definitely believed in these guys way more when I was younger, cause I would walk around my neighborhood at night (heat sensitive) when it was cold out, and one time I freaked out because about ten feet ahead of me, a giant black canine figure was walking just under a streetlight and disappearing around a fence. Safe to say I turned around and sped back home lol swore up and down about smoke wolves cause there was a massive forest just across the street.

fable names: Eden, Titan, and Ambrosia

“Introduce yourself.”

A dappled hound fable steps forward to the middle of the room. When she answers, her voice travels strong and clear. “My name is Eden. I am the keeper of the Soul Garden, Asphodel, the largest Soul Realm within the Empyreal Plane and the place where most of the Ordinaries' souls go to rest.”

“It’s a very important job you have, then, Eden?”

“Yes. Since the Separation of Planes, it has been my sole purpose to care for and maintain Asphodel as a safe and beautiful eternal resting place for those whose lives on the Foundation Plane have ceased.”

“You deal with many souls, then?”

“Indeed. Mistress Hecate brings me the souls she has deemed worthy of Asphodel, and I guide them into my garden. There are many souls on any given day, but with the rise of population and the wars raging on the Foundation Plane, I have been quite busy.”

“Not busy enough, I guess.”

Eden’s expression hardens.

“There is Law to be kept in the Empyreal Plane.”



The dappled fable stares, unflinching. There is no regret in her eyes.

“You are the one who planned and provided the escape route.”

That same smile finds its way back onto Eden’s lips as the bittersweet memory resurfaces. “Yes.” Her voice echoes with pride. “I was the one who mapped the escape.”

“Introduce yourself.”

There’s almost no sound as a delicate white hound fable glides into the center of the room. There is a calm about them, any other emotion remaining hidden. A silky voice follows suit. “I am Ambrosia. A Hound of Hecate, underling of Hades, and tender of the Soul Palace, Elysium.” They finish their introduction with a bow and a gentle smile that does not extend to their eyes.

“The keeper of the Ordinary’s souls that have been deemed worthy of Elysium. A realm for those too good for Asphodel. Your job must be quite simple.”

“One might think, yes! Though, in reality, many beautiful souls are somewhat incapable of telling me what they wish for. Much guesswork is involved when it comes to my dealings.” Their smile fades. “Not to mention the amount of expectation around what is regarded as the most esteemed of the Soul Realms. Sometimes, that kind of expectation can sour fables, even after death. I’ve come to you about this many times, no?”

“There are many under your jurisdiction that stay… ‘good’ though, yes? Those like that of Persephone? The ‘beautiful soul’ that turned even my brother Hades into one that would break the rules we created? Not to mention turning you into the messenger

between.”

Ambrosia’s expression changes into something unreadable. “You really wouldn’t know, would you? You’ve never really taken the time to visit those over which you preside.”

“Even though there’s no need… introduce yourself.”

A hound fable of deep red, wrapped in fresh bandages, already stands at the center of attention. It’s almost like they’ve been here before and know better than to argue too much, the fable answers. “I’m Titan, subordinate to Lord Hades, First Hound of Hecate, and the guardian of the Empyreal Plane’s Soul Prison, Tartarus.”

“Tartarus. The place where souls unworthy of convenience and kindness are shunted. To see so many ugly souls... it must be difficult.”

A flame of anger flickers in Titan’s eyes. “So many hurt souls.” They quip.



“A defender of those that have fallen beyond grace. You and Hades haven’t ever quite seen eye to eye on the idea of rehabilitation from Tartarus. It was no surprise when the cup finally spilled and a bloody battle ensued. That was the idea behind your plan, I’m assuming.”

“Well, it worked, didn’t it? You were so busy focusing on us, Mistress Hecate was able to get Lady Persephone out safely.” Titan scoffs.

“Or so you think.”

It takes a millisecond for Titan’s heart to drop. “I know Persephone got out safely, but… Mistress Hecate… What did you do to her.” It’s not a question.

“The question is… what didn’t you do to her? The murder of a fellow Magia within the Empyreal Plane is strictly forbidden. You, Titan, and the other Hounds of Hecate will be punished accordingly.”

Titan’s disbelief turns to unfathomable rage as they lunge forward with a guttural sound escaping them. No hoof is raised as magic swords materialize in front of them, stopping Titan in their tracks. “No one will believe you!” They scream.

“Who will believe you over We? Titan of Tartarus, with Magia blood on your hooves.”

It doesn’t take long before all three of Hecate’s Hounds are present together. Despite how they try to hide it, the tension in the room is immeasurable.

“You can’t get away with this.” Eden seems a bit taken aback by how shakily her voice presents. Even Ambrosia’s calm atmosphere is threatening to come apart as their eyes dart from side to side.

“The story is clear. This powerful soul… ‘Persephone’ seduces her way into Hades’ good graces. With this in, she snakes her way into all of your hearts. Charming the hounds into helping her escape. Playing on your emotions, Titan, to pit you against Hades as a distraction for the escape. Hecate, trying to stop your fitful rage, has her life taken by her own. This will be the story. No matter how you try to defend this Persephone, it will be assumed you are still charmed. No one will know We have been plotted against. And… well, aren’t you glad? Your mistress Hecate will be known as a martyr instead of being known as the traitor that she really was.”

Eden and Ambrosia become blank with shock. The tears silently hitting the ground are falling from Titan.

“You three, keeping your current roles, of course, will now also take over Hecate’s job. You will greet the souls at the river, decide which of the Soul Realms they belong in, and guide them there. Maybe you’ll do a better job than Hecate anyway, considering you were having problems with mix-ups. This will also guarantee your time will be used for your jobs, rather than making plots.”

The silence continues.

“One more thing. Your punishment. Involving yourselves in the escape of a soul, charmed or not, along with the murder of another Magia within this Plane, deserves a punishment strong enough that all those who come after will know not to break Our rules.”

There’s a flash of intense light and sudden weightlessness felt by Eden, Ambrosia, and Titan. A shared moment of feeling as though their bodies are being taken apart and reconstructed, accompanied by a sheer blinding pain. It’s only a moment before they awaken. As one.

The Will is gone. It is just them. Alone. Together. Their thoughts are their own, but from the heaving sadness in the chest that belonged only to Titan just a moment ago, the tears quickly reach the other two. Silently, they look at one another, truly feeling the gravity of their new reality. It’s not long before the tears stop. No words are needed with the sudden understanding between them, bonded like never before. They stand and walk forward with an unstoppable determination burning like a flame behind their eyes.

eyes that glowed like a furnace pierced through the darkness. i felt the heat before the spark.

"who.. are you?"

"we are one," three voices responded, a dull hum filling the air in it's quake.

"but i... i am aethon," a singular voice stated. a white orb erupted behind the furthermost left head, so that it was the only one in view. "the one who breathes fire. or so they said."

i cocked my head at the peculiar looking fable. it's nose ring flashed in the light and my eyes were drawn to it. "interesting jewelry you have there."

the head huffed. "hades forced it upon me," it spat back, darkness filling it's gaze. when my eyebrow quirked at the comment, it continued. "i am but one head of the hellhound that guards tartarus. i am responsible for the flames and destruction that aides in stopping fables from leaving the underworld. i once was seen as the strongest of the three... until hades forced this gods-forsaken piece of metal in my nostrils - it weakens me, forces the flames back further into my throat. it burns, child... it burns..."

as if on queue, i watched as flames attempted to burst from aethon's mouth and nose. my awe turned to terror as i watched it consume it's muzzle, then it's head. tears that burned like coal fell from it's eyes. aethon stared heavily back at me. "my flames... are no longer owned by me," it whispered. the ring within it's nose shone suddenly and within the blink of an eye, the fire was extinguished. "i... am no longer."

my eyes travelled with the orb as it floated behind the middle head. a sadistic smile was plastered across it's face as it tipped it's head to the side. i shivered at the sight of it's fangs.

"i am nyctaeus," it stated, malice hidden beneath it's tone. "i am the second strongest head of the hellhound."

the studded collar around it's throat stole my attention for a second. by the time i had looked back up, nyctaeus was inches away from my face. i gasped loudly and lurched backwards, tripping slightly as i backed away.

"you are too curious for your own good," the wolf-fable snarled, anger dancing boldly within it's eyes. i opened my mouth to apologize but was silenced by the look on it's face. "i am responsible for the never-ending nightmares within tartatus. terrors that follow from the dream realm," nyctaeus hissed. "my power was astounding. i could conjure daemons, keres, harpies.... the possibilities were endless. i found deep joy in bringing them to life. but hades... he found a liking within my own nightmare."

i stared up into it's red-hot gaze, too scared to speak. nyctaeus took my silence as it's cue to continue.

"this collar harnesses my power. he took my freedom - my purgatory."

shadowy tendrils appeared from the collar and clawed their way around nyctaeus' neck, forcing their way around it's muzzle and forcibly holding it closed. fury adorned it's gaze as it thrashed it's head to and fro, attempting to break free of the shadows. the more nyctaeus attempted to break free, the harder the tendrils gripped. when the wolf-fable finally went limp, the shadows dissipated. when it looked back up at me, the fire that once shone within it's eyes was extinguised. "my nightmares... are no longer owned by me," it murmured, defeated. "i... am no longer."

the orb made it's way from the dishevelled wolf-fable and settled behind the third and final head. i was instantly taken aback by it's calm and shy manner. it peered back at me silently, as if it were waiting for me to speak first.

"and you are...?"

i watched in confusement as it continued to stare at me. it felt like years crept by as i waited for it's answer. when it did reply, it did so in a small, timid voice.

"i am alastor," it mumbled, averting it's gaze. "i am known as the weakest of the three heads of the hellhound that guards tartarus."

the uncertainty in it's voice struck a cord deep within me, drawing an odd feeling out of my soul. pity. the way alastor pinned it's ears to it's head made me feel a guilt that didn't belong to me. my hand reached out on its own as i felt a desire to comfort the head. but, just as fast as the feeling crept over me, it vanished. i noticed the earring that dangled from it's ear shone feverently. confusion once again settled over me as i refocused my view on it's face.

"i am responsible for the unfortunate and disgraceful emotions that plague the fables within tartarus," it began to explain, drawling it's voice. "guilt, shame, sadness... i have the power to conjure those emotions anytime, anywhere. i was known as the avenging spirit... i brought hatred and fear to those who did no good while alive, the consequences of their actions in feeling form... i found no joy in my power, and used it as little as i could... that was until hades found out. he plagued me with this wretched earring, which not only enhances my power, but seeps the dread into my own veins..."

tears that could flood the earth fell from it's eyes as the weight of it's words sunk in. "my feelings... are no longer owned by me," alastor mumbled, gaze glued to the ground. "i... am no longer."

"we are one."

Answer: Bindi is a very quiet, calm natured, but shandy a little stand off-ish from other Equid. She lives in a herd, but prefers to wander off on her own for hours at a time during the day. She regularly loves to go hang around other animals like deer, rabbits, squirrels, chipmunks, birds and anything else peaceful with her. Her companions she is often spotted with are a piebald deer and a squirrel. These two follow her around just about everywhere that she goes. Sometimes you might even spot her taking a nap by a stream with one to few critters resting near her. She protects them like they were her own babies. She sometimes even seen walking around the stream with a Squirrel and maybe some birds resting on her back while she wades around the stream.

Answer: It was a cool fall morning, a gentle breeze rustled through the trees. The smell of petrichor and damp leaves filled the air. A filly played with her peers in the distance, a mother watching over her with pride from not far away. The foal’s coat was that of a rich, golden autumn. Burning leaves mingled with heavy, white clouds. She was a reflection in a calm pool of water. Senescence, she was named. A true child of the season.

Her mother’s brow furrowed. The child came running to Mom, no longer playful. “What is it sweety?” She cooed, and the filly answered, frustrated. “They said I looked funny.“ Anger masked some very hurt feelings. “I do not!” Her little hoof stomped. They were quite new to this herd, had arrived within the season. And nobody had ever seen a Sabino before. Children being children, the local brood had clearly gone about their curiosity in the wrong way. Mom felt this same anger for a half a second, then thought for a moment. She warmly nudged her baby in for a cuddle. “They say funny, but what they really mean is that you’re unique honey.“ The filly looked up, puzzled,

“Unique?” She peeped. “Yes. Look at the leaves today, aren’t they beautiful?” They both looked around for a bit, soaking in the immense, late year landscape. Then Mom continued. “So many colors. Every leaf on every tree is unique, and beautiful in its own way. You and your coat are much the same way.” The filly nodded slowly, considering this. After a moment, she seemed to brighten. She gave Mom a little nudge. “I’m unique. Like the leaves… I like that.” She was happy about this. She loved all of the vivid, vibrant hues. She went charging off, suddenly full of confidence again. “Thank-you Mom!” Her mother smiled.

She was raised with a very deep appreciation of the fall from then on, and how her own coat seemed a canvas for nature’s beauty.
