I remember a portal and the fare it required for it to grant us passage to where we belong, a promised land. One better than the last; one that changes us.

I eagerly accepted and rushed in without thought. It was easy, freedom at last. There was a lingering bitterness? Sadness, but I'd surpass it—an easy price to pay for freedom.

A breeze billowed past me, soft, chilled, and scented with salt. Like the sea, a place that called to me like a long-lost home. Grasses moved in the breeze, and sand covered the earth beneath my hooves. The sky grey and dreary, weather on the move. It delighted me!

I climbed the crest of sand to gaze below; a wide-open coast stood there. greeting me with open arms, a warm embrace for a mistress who has long been absent. I was home! New lands, but exactly where I belong. I rush to her, blind to the surroundings.

"Rushing off already?" says an all too familiar voice… one I know well. One that fills my heart with warmth and agony all the same.

It stopped me in my tracks. I turned to bare my teeth, ear pinned back. He simply chuckles, "It seems they have given you teeth to match this time, quite the bite."

"And I'll use them too," I answer while finally taking in my own differences along with his. Is he taller now and somehow more rugged than before? It makes my heart race, not that I'd ever admit it.
"I have no doubt you will." He replies. Why does he seem thrilled by the idea? It annoys me to my core.

"Fates seem to have made you exactly as you should have been, a coat speckled like the creature you are, with locks that rival those of a sea witch. Striking as ever." He says, I can barely process his words before his next sentence.

"You'll come along now, won't you, or will this be another spat from you?" His tone leaves little room for argument. Glancing at the sea, it's tempting to flee, but he is quick not only in wit but in speed as well.

Releasing a huff, I answer, "I suppose, for now."

Fate seems to think they're funny; taunting freedom in front of me to only have placed my capture mere steps ahead of me. Frustrating for sure, they must be up there watching and cackling to have fooled me once again.
