Name: Falkor
Prompt: Falkor has been known to collect many trinkets; to the point that you could call it a hoard. That being said she has many trinkets that you could call favorites, but when all is said and done there is only one. When Falkor was a foal, her granddam gave her a small wooden trinket box. The front has a swirling flowery pattern, carved into the wood and stained with a reddish lacquer, giving the box the appearance of rosewood. The hinges and latch were made with brass and looked ancient when she was a foal. To her great pride they have not added any age in the years that she has possessed the box.
However, it is the inside of the box that brings it to the top of Falkorβs favorites list. When opened the box revels itself as not rosewood but instead cedar, a much more common wood. Though less remarkable than the rare rosewood, the cedar gives off the most amazing aroma. Strong and fresh, almost as if the wood can remember breathing in the forest, back when it was still a tree. Falkor remembers the first time she smelled the cedar box, when her grandmother gave it to her and now every time she opens it, she can feel the presence of her elders. It warms her heart to feel them around her and to smell the cedar forest of old. Somehow the box still smells as fresh as the day she got it and Falkor likes to imagine that it smells just as good as the day it was made.
inspired by one of my favorite things as a child
