Lore:
A demi-goddess of harvest.

Demeter holds the domain of harvesting fruit. She’s seen as a spectre of sorts, and only appears during the late season of spring and throughout the summer months. Her branched antlers wilt and grow as the days change, and bare fruit depending on the fruit season.

Often times, fables will pray to she to ensure only the sweetest of fruits will grow to make delicious candies and cakes to celebrate the hot dog days of June, July and August. Demeter will only mingle with the mortals if the fruit parties entice her enough.

Some speculate that Demeter was born out of the pit of a melon, but tales of mouth obscures the truth of her birth. She cannot hold the true power of harvest like her mother-goddesses, and can only control the lesser farms. Her half-sisters are alike. Demeter enjoys being a lesser god, and takes pride in the worship she’s gathered.

Demeter can also be considered a patron of insects— notably cicadas, ants and other sweet-loving bugs. A reminder that, despite the hardship of instinct and nature, even the smallest animals seek out the sweetest juices to consume. A lot of her temples will contain shells of cicadas as such, as well as melon rinds, strawberry leaves and various delicacies.

Demeter will often also mingle with the men that frequent her godhood. It’s amusing to her to have such a niche following, since a lot of women idolize her more. With that being said, the so-called romantic love she holds for these puny mortals is nothing more than a sapphic playing with the hearts of mere boys. They provide worship, and that’s enough for her. Legends says she does indeed have secret lovers in the form of other female fables, and prefers their company in a more traditional sense.
